Post-holiday trauma is often not considered when returning back to school from Winter Break. Rachel is a speech pathologist and survivor of the 2018 Stoneman Douglas Parkland Shooting who bravely uses her experience to teach SLPs and educators how we can be more trauma informed in our work.
Join our conversation as we discuss:
Examples of trauma-inducing events during the holiday season and returning to school
Typical signs of trauma we should look out for preschool and school-aged children
How SLPs can make a safe space for children who’ve experienced trauma
Violent language and how we can avoid using it
Ways we can advocate for children from a trauma informed perspective
How SLPs can help this population when a PTSD “episode” occurs
Why you should assume everyone has trauma
