कार्यनीतेः आन्तर्यम्

कदाचित् श्रीकृष्णः विविधैः सुन्दरैः आभरणैः आत्मानम् अलङ्कुर्वन् आसीत् । यः कदापि बाह्यालङ्कारे आसक्तिं न दर्शयति सः अद्य कथं बाह्यालङ्कारे विशेषास्थावान् इति चिन्तयन् आप्तः सेवकः कारणं पृच्छति । तदा कृष्णः वदति 'दुर्योधनं द्रष्टुं गच्छामि । बाह्याडम्बरदर्शने तस्य विशेषासक्तिः । अतः तं प्रभावयितुम् अयं वेशः' इति । पुनः सेवकः वदति यत् 'भवता किमर्थं तत्र गम्यते ? सः एव अत्र आनाय्यताम्' इति । तदा कृष्णः वदाति 'अन्धकारः प्रकाशदिशि न गच्छति । प्रकाशः एव अन्धकारदिशि गच्छेत्' इति । श्रीकृष्णस्य कार्यनीतेः आन्तर्यं ज्ञातुं न शक्नुमः अस्माभिः इति वदन् सः सेवकः ततः निर्गतः ।

Once, Lord Krishna adorned himself with various beautiful ornaments. A close attendant, surprised by this unusual display—since Krishna was never attached to external decoration—wondered about the reason and asked him. Krishna replied, “I am going to meet Duryodhana. He is particularly drawn to outward grandeur. Hence, this appearance is meant to influence him.” The attendant then suggested, “Why should you go to him? Let him be brought here instead.” Krishna responded wisely, “Darkness does not approach light; it is light that must go toward darkness.” Hearing this profound statement, the attendant realized that Krishna’s actions are guided by deeper principles beyond ordinary understanding, and he quietly withdrew.
