00:05:08.760 Simple Church. 00:05:08.760 --> 00:05:11.360 And what I began to understand is that in order to have 00:05:11.360 --> 00:05:15.520 a simple church, it could be a complicated process. 00:05:15.520 --> 00:05:17.520 But that the church that God was calling us to 00:05:17.520 --> 00:05:20.880 was in fact a simple church when we look at God's word 00:05:20.880 --> 00:05:22.600 and when we are the simple church that the Bible 00:05:22.600 --> 00:05:25.360 calls us to do, we can become a powerful church. 00:05:25.360 --> 00:05:28.460 I said this a few weeks ago and surprised some of you, 00:05:28.460 --> 00:05:32.640 maybe you were newer and maybe not knowing about my past, 00:05:32.640 --> 00:05:37.400 but very rarely does somebody decide at a very young age 00:05:37.400 --> 00:05:40.720 that they're gonna grow up and be a pastor. 00:05:40.720 --> 00:05:44.080 That was definitely not my journey in life. 00:05:44.080 --> 00:05:46.800 I had a lot of things that I thought about doing. 00:05:46.800 --> 00:05:51.440 But my lifelong dream from a very young age 00:05:51.440 --> 00:05:54.840 was to be a football coach. 00:05:54.840 --> 00:05:56.020 I wanted to be a football coach. 00:05:56.020 --> 00:06:01.020 Very specifically, I wanted to be a college football 00:06:01.020 --> 00:06:04.440 offensive coordinator. 00:06:04.440 --> 00:06:05.840 That's what I wanted to be. 00:06:05.840 --> 00:06:08.800 One of my coaches that I coached under 00:06:08.800 --> 00:06:12.440 when I was a college student, he came to me and he said, 00:06:12.440 --> 00:06:17.080 there's a coach that's up in the Midwest that he knew 00:06:17.080 --> 00:06:19.160 and if I could get my grades in order, 00:06:19.160 --> 00:06:22.600 if I could study hard, if I could finish college on time, 00:06:22.600 --> 00:06:25.760 he said he's an up and comer, we really believe 00:06:25.760 --> 00:06:28.960 that he'll be able to do great things in football 00:06:28.960 --> 00:06:32.000 and I know him and we could possibly set you up 00:06:32.000 --> 00:06:34.200 with an internship with this coach. 00:06:34.200 --> 00:06:37.480 And then he said his name and years later it hit me, 00:06:37.480 there's this opportunity. 00:06:48.680 --> 00:06:51.320 And so I coached football for years as a non-believer. 00:06:51.320 --> 00:06:53.080 I coached high school football. 00:06:53.080 --> 00:06:55.320 I loved every minute of it. 00:06:55.320 --> 00:06:57.960 I coached offensive line was the position that I coached. 00:06:57.960 --> 00:06:59.920 I had the opportunity of calling plays. 00:07:19.920 And then God called me into ministry 00:07:19.920 --> 00:07:22.320 and I walked away from coaching football. 00:07:22.320 --> 00:07:24.480 And I'd been about four years in ministry 00:07:24.480 --> 00:07:26.560 and we were living in Sumter, South Carolina 00:07:26.560 --> 00:07:29.040 and I got a phone call one day from a guy named John. 00:07:29.040 --> 00:07:31.680 John was the interim youth pastor at First Baptist Sumter 00:07:31.680 --> 00:07:33.520 and he called me and he said, 00:07:33.520 --> 00:07:36.160 "Bo, John was an insurance salesman." 00:07:36.160 --> 00:07:39.280 He called me, he said, "Bo, I got a favor to ask of you." 00:07:39.280 --> 00:07:42.640 I said, "Sure, John, what favor do you have?" 00:07:42.640 --> 00:07:46.280 And he said, "I'd like to ask you if you would help me out 00:07:46.280 --> 00:07:48.500 "and if you would be willing to coach football again 00:07:48.500 --> 00:07:50.240 "just for one season." 00:07:50.240 --> 00:07:52.720 He said, "I know you're busy, I know you got a lot going on 00:07:52.720 --> 00:07:56.080 "but I'd like to see if you'd be willing to coach football." 00:07:56.080 --> 00:07:57.440 I 00:10:27.620 all of the different things that we can start, 00:10:27.620 --> 00:10:30.220 all of the different aspects that are there, 00:10:30.220 --> 00:10:31.260 and what we become. 00:10:31.260 --> 00:10:33.620 And I don't think it matters if you're a church 00:10:33.620 --> 00:10:37.020 of five or if you're a church of 5,000. 00:10:37.020 --> 00:10:38.580 I don't think it matters. sitting there and we're having our staff meetings 00:10:59.860 --> 00:11:01.860 and we're talking through leadership, 00:11:01.860 --> 00:11:04.100 we believe that these are the three things 00:11:04.100 --> 00:11:06.820 that we need to be about, that we need to do 00:11:06.820 --> 00:11:08.580 to make sure that we're being the church 00:11:08.580 --> 00:11:10.100 that God's called us to discipleship aspect 00:11:41.500 --> 00:11:44.620 is to help you grow more like Christ. 00:11:44.620 --> 00:11:46.220 And so whether it's our small groups, 00:11:46.220 --> 00:11:48.780 I met here, I believe we had four different small groups 00:11:48.780 --> 00:11:50.420 meeting on campus, we got small groups 00:11:50.420 --> 00:11:52.900 that are meeting in homes pretty much every night 00:11:52.900 --> 00:11:55.380 of the week, we got men's groups, we got women's groups, 00:11:55.380 --> 00:11:56.900 scattered all over Lexington. 00:11:56.900 --> 00:12:00.060 The goal in those is to grow more like Christ. 00:12:00.060 --> 00:12:01.900 That's discipleship, we're gonna look at that 00:12:01.900 --> 00:12:03.660 in a second a little bit more. 00:12:03.660 --> 00:12:05.500 But we sinful life behind. 00:40:18.340 --> 00:40:23.540 Discipleship says I lay it down. 00:40:23.540 --> 00:40:28.380 I think there's two reasons that you and I 00:40:28.380 --> 00:40:31.180 have a hard
