INTRO GOOD (DAY) EVENING MADISON! YOU’RE LISTENING TO THE 5/6 O’CLOCK NEWS UPDATE ON WSUM 91.7 FM MADISON STUDENT RADIO. I’M TALULA HAYES. IN THE NEWS TODAY, IN LOCAL NEWS, The Overture Center announced its Overture Forever fundraising campaign reached its $30 million goal on Monday. This campaign was originally created to provide a permanent endowment for the center which would help maintain the building moving forward. The fundraiser began nearly 10 years ago under the Christensen Associates founding partner Dianne Christensen. In 2024, a $10 million gift was added to the endowment from the W. Jerome Frautschi Foundation. Within the past 18 months, nearly 2,000 households have donated to the fund. The median gift during this donation period was $100. So far, they’ve been able to install a new hot water boiler system, upgrade their cooling system, install new lighting controls, add wireless mics and replace the roof. Many projects such as this will continue as their campaign will be ongoing to further materialize their endowment. The center itself hosts nearly 700 events during the year, with 30% being free or of lower-cost. Quote “Preserving this cultural icon will sustain our local arts community and ensure that many more generations will enjoy its diverse programs and performances,” end quote Overture co-CEO and chief development officer Emily Gruenewald said.
