of the Spirit. 00:04:57.620 --> 00:05:01.120 So let's look at Galatians 5, 22 through 23 to be on the screen. 00:05:01.300 --> 00:05:05.020 Paul writes and says, but the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, 00:05:05.280 --> 00:05:09.200 and what I'm going to preach on this morning, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 00:05:09.280 --> 00:05:11.820 gentleness, self-control against such things. 00:05:12.220 --> 00:05:13.540 There is no law. 00:05:13.800 --> 00:05:18.600 So when we look at these different words that we've been looking at over the course of all the weeks, 00:05:18.620 --> 00:05:23.400 and if you're new here, basically we're taking a word a week as we move through the fruit of the Spirit. 00:05:23.640 --> 00:05:28.780 And when you look at the different ones, I don't exactly remember off the top of my head for joy, 00:05:28.780 --> 00:05:36.440 but I know that both love and peace are mentioned over 80 times each in the New Testament. 00:05:36.780 --> 00:05:40.380 So that's a common word that we're going to see and read through. 00:05:40.640 --> 00:05:46.440 In fact, both of those words are listed in every book in the New Testament. 00:05:46.620 --> 00:05:52.180 So as you read through, you'll see that joy is at a higher end for that as well, 00:05:52.320 --> 00:05:56.600 and I believe it is listed in every book in the New Testament except for one. 00:05:56.600 --> 00:05:59.200 But patience is a little different. 00:06:00.020 --> 00:06:06.160 But you're probably thinking to yourself, well, when I read and look through Scripture and I see patience, 00:06:06.300 --> 00:06:07.880 that's often found in Scripture. 00:06:08.040 --> 00:06:09.340 And that's true. 00:06:09.500 --> 00:06:12.040 When we read it in English, we'll see that. 00:06:12.100 --> 00:06:15.260 But there's two words in the Greek for the word patience. 00:06:15.560 --> 00:06:18.500 And the first one I'm going to share with you is used a little bit more often. 00:06:18.500 --> 00:06:27.100 And this patience that's used a little bit more often means to bear up or to remain under a burden. 00:06:27.580 --> 00:06:35.300 And so an example would be to have patience in suffering, to have patience in a difficult situation, 00:06:35.700 --> 00:06:42.260 to have patience so that you know that as you endure, that it will come to an end, 00:06:42.500 --> 00:06:48.480 whether it's an end of the moment or return of Christ, that that's the patience that we see. 00:06:48.820 --> 00:06:52.160 Now, this is not the patience referred to in Galatians 5.22, 00:06:53.300 --> 00:06:55.260 even though that's a biblical command that we see. 00:06:56.060 --> 00:06:58.340 We are to be patient as we suffer well. 00:06:58.420 --> 00:07:02.500 We are to be patient as we wait on the returning of the Lord. 00:07:02.500 --> 00:07:10.280 But the one that we see is a word that is used 14 times in the New Testament in its entirety. 00:07:10.780 --> 00:07:13.040 And it's a word called macrothrumia. 00:07:13.300 --> 00:07:14.420 And it's a compound word. 00:07:15.480 --> 00:07:21.760 And the word is macros, which means long, and thumos, which means temper. 00:07:22.180 --> 00:07:24.020 And so it means to be long temper. 00:07:24.020 --> 00:07:30.640 And it's a description of a person who is able to hold their temper for a long time, 00:11:19.480 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, 00:11:20.340 --> 00:11:26.120 not willing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 00:11:26.980 --> 00:11:33.100 So Peter here is speaking about the returning of the Lord. 00:11:33.940 --> 00:11:42.180 And he's speaking in context of all of the believers, of what they're having to face, and the persecution, and the difficulty of life. 00:11:43.180 --> 00:11:48.740 And there were those in the church who were longing for Jesus to return. 00:11:48.880 --> 00:11:50.200 00:13:15.380 --> 00:13:18.280 Therefore, beloved, since you were waiting for these, 00:13:18.720 --> 00:13:24.480 be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish and at peace. 00:13:25.400 --> 00:13:28.400 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, 00:13:28.840 --> 00:13:33.700 just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, 00:13:33.880 --> 00:13:38.880 as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. 00:13:38.880 --> 00:13:42.460 And so, as God is being patient, we wait. 00:13:43.040 --> 00:13:43.620 We wait. that in me, as the foremost, 00:15:34.020 --> 00:15:38.500 Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience. 00:15:39.440 --> 00:15:44.200 As an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal
