श्रेष्ठः कः?

कश्चन गर्वितः विद्वान् स्नानार्थं गच्छन् स्वीयां पादरक्षापट्टिकां समीकर्तुम् चर्मकारम् आज्ञापितवान् । चर्मकारेण पादरक्षां समीकृत्य दत्तायां विद्वान् चर्मकारदिशि नाणकं क्षिप्तवान् । तत् तिरस्कुर्वन् चर्मकारः पूगफलं दत्वा गङ्गामात्रे दातुं सूचितवान् । गङ्गामाता तु चर्मकाराय दीयताम् इत्युक्त्वा एकं सुवर्णकङ्कणं दत्तवती । परन्तु सः विद्वान् तस्य पत्न्यै अददात् । अन्ते तत् कङ्कणं राज्ञा प्राप्तम् । राजा तादृशमेव अपरं कङ्कणम् इष्टवान् । सः अनन्यगत्या पुनः साहाय्यं याचमानः चर्मकारस्य समीपं आगतवान् । अन्ते चर्मकारः पण्डितम् अवदत्  उत्तमव्यवहारेण जनाः आदरं प्राप्नुवन्ति न तु पाण्डित्येन ।

A proud scholar lived on the bank of the Ganga. One day, his sandal strap broke while going for a bath, and he ordered a nearby cobbler to fix it. The cobbler repaired it respectfully but refused the payment the scholar offered, suggesting he donate betel nuts to the Ganga instead. Later, the scholar sold a bracelet to the king but failed to produce another when requested. Seeking help, he followed the cobbler's advice and offered a betel nut to the Ganga, who then granted him another bracelet. He presented it to the king and escaped punishment. In the end, the cobbler taught the scholar that respect is earned through good conduct, not just knowledge or birth.

What is बालमोदिनी?

सम्भाषणसन्देशः इति संस्कृतमासिकपत्रिका (https://sambhashanasandesha.in) । एतस्यां पत्रिकायां प्रकाशिताः लेखाः, कथाः, बालकथाः, वार्ताः इत्यादिकं सर्वम् अपि सरलसंस्कृतेन एव प्रकाश्यते । तत्रत्याः “बालमोदिनी”नामिकाः बालकथाः अत्र प्रसार्यन्ते । अतः अस्याः शृङ्खलायाः नाम अपि “बालमोदिनी” एव । लघु गात्रं, सरला भाषा च कथानां विशेषः । प्रत्येकं कथा काञ्चित् नीतिं बोधयति । बालकथाः आबालवृद्धं सर्वेषां प्रियाः । संस्कृतेन ताः श्रोतुम् उपलब्धाः भवन्तु इति एषः प्रयत्नः श्रोतृभ्यः अवश्यं रोचेत इति विश्वासः । संस्कृतक्षेत्रे संस्कृतेन पॉड्कास्ट् क्रियमाणाः एताः प्रप्रथमाः कथाः इति सगौरवम् उद्घोष्यते ।

Among these, the children's stories titled “Balamodini” are featured. The series is named “Balamodini” as well. The hallmark of these stories is their short length and simple language. Each story imparts a specific moral lesson. Children’s stories are cherished by everyone, young and old alike. It is believed that listeners will appreciate this effort to make these stories available in Sanskrit. These are the first stories to be podcasted in the Sanskrit language within this field.
