Mike Walker (00:05.58) we heard. Mike Walker (00:10.84) Do you hear it? David Patrick (00:23.532) Hey, welcome back everybody to Dad's on Books. Mike Walker (00:26.059) Hey, how are you David? just peachy. David Patrick (00:28.28) I'm good, how are you Mike? Excellent. Thank you. No, thank you. No, no, thank you. Y'all are way too much. you went away. Okay. Mike Walker (00:34.668) You're welcome. Mike Walker (00:38.52) Well, they were a quick audience. David Patrick (00:40.942) Good, because we chose a quick short book for this one. Mike Walker (00:44.918) We sure did the going to bed book by look at and look how fresh and shiny and new my book looks as opposed to yours. looks well worn. David Patrick (00:49.944) da da da Sandra Boynton. David Patrick (01:01.888) It's well worn, it's well read, but unlike one of our previous books, actually, the spine is still intact. I'm very, very proud of that. Yes. Mike Walker (01:08.984) That's pretty awesome. Mine, I was pretty sure that I was not going to be able to find my copy. So I just decided, I'm just not going to look. And I looked on Amazon and found it for $2.50. Brand new. David Patrick (01:25.388) Well, wow, you make sure you keep that receipt because when we monetize, you can do that as a tax or business write off. Mm hmm. I do know one thing that meant that it meant that the only thing better than buying books is buying tax deductible books. Mm hmm. Mike Walker (01:31.905) absincely. I don't know what that meant. Mike Walker (01:41.717) Absolutely. And tax deductible books that don't cost too much. We got to get like a supplier, somebody who just sends us books. So somebody out there, you know where to find our, you know, information down there somewhere. send us some information about how we can get free books. Yeah. Or I don't know, something. David Patrick (01:46.156) Yes, exactly. David Patrick (01:57.944) Mm-hmm. David Patrick (02:03.458) That's a great idea. I like I like free books. Well, I like free books that I can keep and bend the corners and write in because our libraries have free books, but they I've heard I have heard only heard they frown upon marking, taking notes, etc. in the books. Yes, indeed. Mike Walker (02:12.512) Yes, absolutely. Mike Walker (02:22.732) They sure do. In fact, know from previous experience. David Patrick (02:30.766) Yes. Okay. Well, my, have a previous experience way, way back in 2025, I spilled coffee on a library book. And so I walked in slowly with head down and I went to the library desk and I said, I spilled coffee on this book. It's decaf. and it was, they didn't seem to carry that. was decaf. Mike Walker (02:31.946) A long, long time ago. It wasn't recent. It wasn't recent. Mike Walker (02:40.439) Yeah. David Patrick (02:59.852) But they said, yeah, I think you're going to have to buy it. And I said, okay. And it was a, you know, we've done the who was series. It was who was Alexander Hamilton. Mike Walker (03:08.7) we've talked about those books with Laura Ingalls Wilder. And we've talked about Alexander Hamilton more recently on our episode with Dan Gutman. David Patrick (03:13.418) Yes, yes, exactly. David Patrick (03:20.492) Yes, we have. Yes, we have. And one of the dads on books really enjoyed the musical Hamilton. Mike Walker (03:30.012) And one of them doesn't care for the music. So has never seen it. But my family loves it. David Patrick (03:35.042) There you go. So, yeah, yes. And so does mine, including me. Anyway, the point is, she said, yeah, you're gonna have to buy the book. And I said, how much is it? And she said, clicky clicky clicky typey typey, three 99. So I asked if there was financing available and yes, I now have a copy of who was Alexander Hamilton with a very beautiful decaf coffee ring on Mike Walker (03:57.529) And you're still paying for it. $0.12 a month for 45 months. David Patrick (04:02.446) I am. I am indeed. Yes. Interest rates are not as high as they used to be. Yeah. So I decided financing was a way to go, which is why we still do silly things in our house, like eat and put gas in our car. Mike Walker (04:10.2) Phew. Mike Walker (04:17.392) and coffee, whether decaf or not, and peas and tea on our books. Yes, absolutely. David Patrick (04:19.917) Mm-hmm. David Patrick (04:24.394) Indeed. Yes, exactly. And that's T.E.A. by the way. T.E.A. Okay. But that being said, once again, what's the origin story of why we're doing the this Boynton board book? Mike Walker (04:37.272) It's, it's funny because there's not really a, an exact origin story per se. I like to say that per se. but we talked about it. We were trying to figure out what to, to read next. And I had like days earlier, seen something about Sandra Boynton. David Patrick (04:47.892) Mm-hmm. I do too. Mike Walker (05:04.426) And I was like, my gosh, I love those books. They're so fun. And we started talking about it and all of the sudden I exploded, I think. And it was like, my God, my God, my God. David Patrick (05:18.882) Wow, that must have been, who cleaned that up when you exploded? Mike Walker (05:21.688) I don't know. I think it was the same team that works on spinal tap. David Patrick (05:27.822) Okay. Mike Walker (05:29.432) So, but we were very excited, or I was very excited. I got excited and said, let's do something by Sandra Boynton. And you said, my gosh, look at this box of books I just was looking at and right on top. should, I think I have a picture of that. So I'll throw that in right here. David Patrick (05:33.34) Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. David Patrick (05:49.186) Yes, that's what it was. Boom. That'd be awesome. Yeah. No, it's, that box is about three, four, maybe five years ago. So the girls never want me to take any books out of our bookshelves ever. they think I'm throwing stuff away because I often do threaten to do that. but what I do and boy, if I hope they're not listening right now, but there are so many boxes of stuff in our easily access to attic, AKA Narnia off of Delany's room. Cause what I'll say is like, Hey, if you don't clean your room, then when you get home from school, your room will be clean. And I just throw stuff in there, but the. Mike Walker (06:30.264) Do you put it in boxes and put it in there or do you just open the door and chuck? David Patrick (06:34.792) I do a lot of Chuck. There's a lot of Chuck going on. Mike Walker (06:38.816) And is that on one of the upper floors? David Patrick (06:41.545) It's on the second floor. Mike Walker (06:43.522) So you open the door and upchuck. David Patrick (06:45.472) I do. open the door and I up Chuck all over the place and, and, and the spinal tap people, they don't clean it up. No, it's, it's real. It is literally a door in Delaney's bedroom. It's an attic that is just right there and it's, it's locked. So she can't go in there and find Chuck. but what I did was a few years ago, there were just certain books. thought before they get lost or whatever, these are the books that I want to keep and to give back to them. Mike Walker (06:56.876) Yeah, that's super awesome. Mike Walker (07:02.08) you David Patrick (07:13.934) if we're so blessed to have grandkids or just for Monica and me to keep as the books we read to our grandkids. And so that's what that box was. And like you love the Sandra Boynton books. So amazing. We have a bunch of them and they happen to have been in that box. As you said, before you stumbled upon it, decided we should do this next. Mike Walker (07:35.926) Well, I brought up Sandra Boynton, but you brought up the book because it was in the picture. This is, I do like this book. It is very fun. However, this is not, isn't, stop smelling butts. You're not a dog. you're a cat. my bad. David Patrick (07:41.036) Right. Yes. David Patrick (07:46.304) Mm-hmm. I was smelling a butt. One. come on. It's the conjunction, Mike. No, it's the conjunction. There was one in the transcript. One T and but not two. Good law. Come on. Anyway, but. Mike Walker (08:05.812) Okay, Eileen. But if you look on the back, which I will show right now, and I was trying not to too much glare, I mean, this is just a few of the available books. And as it is not on yours, but I find it funny that the very first book is... David Patrick (08:16.852) cool. Yeah. David Patrick (08:23.053) Yes. David Patrick (08:28.183) Really? Mike Walker (08:34.25) Muba la la la. And it is on yours as well on that side, yes. But I don't know if it's actually in focus, but if we scroll down, whoop, look, there's this book. And I have, I have, what is it? Four, four rows before you get to the bottom. And then I noticed what is the last book on this? David Patrick (08:36.529) that's right. Yes. David Patrick (08:43.318) It is, yours is now. Going to bed book. David Patrick (09:00.75) Boo. La la la la la. Mike Walker (09:04.396) Boo bah la la la. And it is it looks just like moobah la la la except the cow has moved their head and says boo instead of moo which is funny because I just thought it was a Halloween version of moobah la la la and I thought that it David Patrick (09:06.542) yeah, okay. David Patrick (09:19.672) Moo, it's a sequel. David Patrick (09:30.392) That's where I went. Mike Walker (09:33.174) was moo until I literally just showed it and went my god that says boo la la la yes David Patrick (09:41.558) And it's orange. Is it orange? Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Mike Walker (09:45.46) So it makes me laugh and makes me go, ooh, ooh, ooh. My friend's niece just had a baby a couple months ago. And I don't know how many by the time this is out. They could be 18. Bo, if you are listening. No, Bo might be 18 years old. But who knows? Maybe they'll have 18 babies. That would be crazy. David Patrick (10:03.566) 18 babies? No, yeah, that's hilarious. Mike Walker (10:14.785) But I've got something to buy them for Halloween next year. David Patrick (10:20.844) That is awesome. I love it. Mike Walker (10:23.841) So Ari, you'll be getting boo. Boo-ba-la-la-la. That's hard to say. Anyway. David Patrick (10:30.348) It is. This is easier to say. Do you remember how y'all first got the books in your family or house or any Sandra Boynton? Mike Walker (10:39.199) I don't know exactly, but I'm pretty sure that somebody gifted them to us. David Patrick (10:44.91) Hmm. Yep. Well, when I did, I did a pre what's the word I'm looking for? I before I read this book for this episode, I jotted some notes down and try to go, OK, who did I read this to? I know I read it to the girls. But I'm like, how did I get it? I said, I think. I did. That's on our first date, actually, that was when she knew. That was when she knew, man. Mike Walker (10:57.943) Cool. Mike Walker (11:03.457) Did you read it to Monica? Mike Walker (11:07.809) Ha ha! That's funny. That's funny, because when this one came in the mail, and I opened it, and I was like, my book came. And Kim was like, what? I'm like, it's the Going to Bed book. She was like, give me that. And then she read it right away. It was so fun. And I think she read it out loud. But that was 18 years ago, but maybe Bo remembers. Sorry. David Patrick (11:15.8) Mm-hmm. David Patrick (11:22.158) Yeah David Patrick (11:28.007) that's awesome. I love it. Aww. I'm glad she did. David Patrick (11:40.965) That's awesome. Oh, was trying to think. No, no. Hey, I was trying to think of some future like futuristic joke. You know, that Bo is listening to this in 25 plus 30, 30, uh, 43, 20, 43. Mike Walker (11:41.271) Sorry, go ahead. Go ahead, caller. Mike Walker (11:50.748) yeah, yeah, yeah. And is hovercraft, airplane car? What's a car? David Patrick (12:03.405) Hahaha Mike Walker (12:04.747) Why do I need a car to travel on Saturn? David Patrick (12:07.502) I don't want to get into politics, but I will say this. There was something, some joke from like 20 or 30 years ago that really was done on TV and it was about, yeah, the future. Trump will be president. No joking. But. Mike Walker (12:20.682) Yeah. Also, I believe it was on the Simpsons as well. David Patrick (12:26.83) You know what, I might be able to... Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Mike Walker (12:28.439) Yeah. But I, I'm, I'm starting to think, uh, Arnold Schwarzenegger might've been a good president comparatively. I mean, he did all right in, in California and he was president in what was demolition man, maybe I don't know. of those or Robo copy kind of futuristic movies with Sylvester Stallone. Yeah. David Patrick (12:40.876) He did, and you know what? I voted for him. David Patrick (12:50.08) Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, that's interesting. And who would have thought back then he'd be governor of California, but he was. Mike Walker (12:56.791) yeah, nobody would have ever thought that. That's why it was so funny. David Patrick (13:02.414) Mm hmm. Let's see. We digress. Hey, don't don't worry. Yeah, yeah, don't worry, listeners. We will get to the book at one point. Speaking of which. Yes, we have. Mike Walker (13:07.719) The humor again. 13 minutes. Mike Walker (13:15.061) We have talked about the book, just not the actual contents in the book. So let's do it. David Patrick (13:20.288) Right. Okay. Well, real quickly, what I was going to say was I thought, think, so I wrote down some notes and I think I remember that my friend Megan, yep, gave us the book. And so I opened it up and sure enough to Delaney from Fiona and Kiki. so Megan is a very good friend of mine and she has children that are just slightly older than ours. So Fiona was very, very little. Mike Walker (13:29.333) Yes. Okay. Mike Walker (13:38.551) Aww. David Patrick (13:48.782) And Kiki, think, is Megan's name for herself to her nieces. But anyway, so, yeah, we got this book very early in our parenthood. And I do. You know, I was sitting there going, I was already familiar with Sandra Boynton, but I don't remember why. And I looked in the back and the original copyright on this book is 1984. Yeah. And then I realized, yeah, this is 1984, 1995. Mike Walker (13:52.983) Mmm. Mike Walker (13:57.963) Very cool. Mike Walker (14:13.045) have that on mind. David Patrick (14:17.678) I have the newly revised edition, 1995. Yeah, which is still 30 years ago. Mike Walker (14:18.708) Interesting. So you have, what, what, what was the 1980 what? David Patrick (14:27.534) Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Bo, 48 years ago, 1995. Copyright 1984. Mike Walker (14:31.424) Hehehehehe Mike Walker (14:36.791) interesting because my copy says copyright 1982 look at the conspiracy theories theories abounding can you abound i don't know David Patrick (14:41.582) WHAT?! David Patrick (14:46.65) my goodness. They can abound or abound. They're definitely, that's quality binding. That's a visual I'm holding. Mike Walker (14:53.791) Yes, quality if, if it hasn't like broken up yet on your end. Mine super quality. how about there? David Patrick (14:58.1) Wow. Yes. Well, rub it in. You got your 1982 book, what, a week ago? Whatever. even better. Mike Walker (15:05.525) Yeah. No, like four days. I think it came on... Yeah, three days actually. Came on a Saturday and we're recording on a Monday. Or Tuesday. I guess it's four then. Anyway. Moving forward. David Patrick (15:11.926) Is that three visit? There you go. David Patrick (15:18.83) OK, anyway, moving forward, I realized something. thought, she's had greeting cards out for a long time. Birthday cards, all that. So that's where I knew her as an artist already. And that. Mike Walker (15:22.519) . Mike Walker (15:28.599) Mike Walker (15:34.212) Okay, I did not realize that. How did you know that? David Patrick (15:39.254) I, last night when I did my pre search, in other words, I was like trying to like, why did I already know? And it just sort of hit, it just dawned on me. I don't have any evidence. Mike Walker (15:42.87) hehe Mike Walker (15:52.074) So you've made that whole thing up. David Patrick (15:54.292) No, no, I think I remembered it. I think it's real. I think it's true. Mike Walker (15:57.247) I think we're alone now. Doesn't seem to be anyone around. David Patrick (16:03.646) NERRRR Mike Walker (16:05.375) yeah, no, that's interesting. Now you're on your phone looking it up for those of you who can't see. I don't see your finger poking down there at all. Poke, poke. So anyway, I think what's what I find so cool about these books, is partially the artwork, but partially the kind of rhyming nature of it. that. David Patrick (16:10.321) no I'm not. Duh duh duh duh duh duh duh. Mike Walker (16:34.845) It flows so well. like, how long does it take you to come up with words that are succinct and just flow right through? And these books are definitely, she does a great job with that. So I will go with you on the greeting card thing. I could totally see that. Yeah. Yeah. We'll put it in the notes. Tell me. David Patrick (17:02.126) Okay, we'll confirm later. I'll look it up. But right now I want to get into the book. Exactly. So yeah, what you just said about the book, you're absolutely right. Because I, there's no way she was not reading this aloud when she wrote it. These were written to be read. And they have a rhythm that that was nostalgic for me as I was reading this, I started reading it out loud. And I totally heard my, I was brought back brought in brought brung. I went back to when Mike Walker (17:15.802) yeah. Mike Walker (17:22.199) Mike Walker (17:29.931) Boynton'd? Boynton'd to back. David Patrick (17:30.956) Boynton's I was boynton'd I was boynton'd back to one to sometimes maybe three girls sitting in my lap, pillows, blankets, stuffies and just reading these books. And I could just I could see holding the book and see little tiny fingers pointing at stuff. I mean. Yeah, P.A. P.A. Marks. Yes. Yes. Mike Walker (17:46.603) Yeah. Mike Walker (17:51.072) And you still have P marks. P-E-A. P-E-A marks. Green. Green fingerprints. Yes. David Patrick (18:01.326) No, I just I remember I just it really took me back. And when you look at the books, the art is so simple, but it's extremely it's like Mo Willems or Richard scary. It is a very like you see her art, you know, exactly, know exactly who it is and what it is. Yeah. Mike Walker (18:10.678) Yes. Mike Walker (18:16.535) Totally, So, yeah, so as the book says, saying it's the going to bed book, I think we can just explain that's the plot. Going to bed. So obviously, we read this book lots and lots of times at bedtime. And then unfortunately, because David Patrick (18:26.86) Yes? David Patrick (18:31.373) Yes. Mike Walker (18:46.609) when the moon is on the rise we all go up to exercise David Patrick (18:50.606) Come on, man. Mike Walker (18:54.347) That made it so that because, you know, of course people get animated in my house when they read things. We had to read another book. David Patrick (19:04.812) Yes, I, I, Mike Walker (19:06.881) So I think we already, I think we always started with this one. David Patrick (19:10.272) Yes, I love it. No, I absolutely. And I remember and I wrote down I'm like, there's no way there's no way Mike did like to exercise what I knew that you would because everyone was probably like and I think Megan even apologized. This is a great book. I warn you. There's one page. I'm not liable. I think I signed a liability waiver before she gave us the book. I was like, what? OK. We have a baby. Yeah. Can she spit up on it? Is it spit up proof? Thank you. We're new at this. Mike Walker (19:28.609) Yes. Mike Walker (19:31.915) Huh, okay. Do I have to read this whole thing? David Patrick (19:38.998) No, that was, it's like exercise. You can bring you after you brush your teeth. on, man. Yep. I love it. I love it. Mike Walker (19:45.344) Yeah. So that is absolutely one of my favorite parts. But the other one is actually for the artwork, the one, the page right next to it with the some on top and some beneath while they're all brushing their teeth. Is the hippopotamus really brushing his teeth or her teeth? David Patrick (19:55.459) Mm-hmm. David Patrick (20:10.596) you're right. No, she. I don't see a toothbrush. You're right. Mike Walker (20:11.785) I don't see a toothbrush. No, looks like somebody's hiding out in the back not brushing their teeth. But... David Patrick (20:18.84) Someone's thinking I can disappear. No one's going to know. I can get away with it. Who cares? Mike Walker (20:23.153) Exactly. But not the hippopotamus. Which brings me to my favorite book, I think, was, But Not the Hippopotamus. Yes, it's up here in green. wait, there. Yeah. David Patrick (20:36.792) is that one of her books? Yeah. No, it's even on mine, too. It's yeah. Years. Yeah. Even though yours was published in 82, you have more books on it. How does that work? Anyway, whatever. Mike Walker (20:48.801) Well, the second, the third postmark date was 2019. So yeah, yeah. David Patrick (20:53.326) yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. OK. And we were already graduated from these books by then. So, you know. But yeah, I love that one. That was always fun. And it's one of the as simple as her art is. That's one of the that's one of the pages where there's so much in that. I don't think I ever noticed the hippopotamus hiding and not brushing her teeth. Mike Walker (20:59.019) Yeah. Yeah. Mike Walker (21:07.339) Mm-hmm. Mike Walker (21:15.765) I literally just found it. I was, because I was looking at it going, they brush and brush and brush their teeth. And I was going to say, I think it's funny that the lion is sitting on top of the elephant, on top, because he's on top. And then I was going to bring up the little bunny on the bottom. And that's funny, like the look in the bunny's eyes, like somebody caught them. And then I just looked over. I was like, everybody's brushing. David Patrick (21:18.542) Are you serious? David Patrick (21:29.748) Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yep. David Patrick (21:39.874) Yep. Yes. Mike Walker (21:45.451) Wait a second... But not the hippopotamus. David Patrick (21:45.932) Wait a minute. David Patrick (21:52.334) That is awesome. Mike Walker (21:53.425) And I put that together as I was saying it, but not there. David Patrick (21:59.448) Well, I am noticing something about the artwork. Well, it looks like almost without exception, all of her characters, you know, it's been a while since I've done this, but I don't think this book says what the art is, but it clearly is some kind of ink or pen and then watercolor, because all of the animals have, whether it's the animals themselves and or their pajamas are Mike Walker (22:02.593) Tell me. Mike Walker (22:23.077) huh. David Patrick (22:26.978) very clearly watercolors with all the cool shading. But the vast majority of everything else, the background is real simple with no textured shading. And if you go to the very, very, very last page, spoiler alert, I'm giving it away. It's the moon is high, the sea is deep, rock and rock and rock to sleep. Such simple art. There are literally Mike Walker (22:29.857) Yeah. Mike Walker (22:39.253) No. David Patrick (22:56.952) four colors and lines only. And yet because of her style, it's still just a really, really cool page. Mike Walker (23:03.807) Yeah, it really is. What kind of rock do you think they were listening to? David Patrick (23:09.398) You got to the music pun before I did. I'm such a fool. I should have jumped in there and not set you up. Mike Walker (23:15.617) Thanks. David Patrick (23:17.23) Because at first I was mad again. First they exercise, then they go to sleep, then they rock. Come on now, my kids are still awake. We will, we will rock you, sing it, et cetera. Mike Walker (23:22.495) What? Mike Walker (23:26.975) sorry. Mike Walker (23:31.297) So Queen and Twisted Sister. Two good songs to rock your kids to sleep with. David Patrick (23:34.894) Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's right. You better be homeschooling. School starts at 1030 after my fourth cup of coffee. But anyway, I just, you know, I've said it before and I'll say it again. I really love this book. Mike Walker (23:44.983) Bye. Mike Walker (23:49.367) Ugh. Mike Walker (23:55.275) I loved it too. And I really love all of the Sandra Boynton books that I have read, especially, but not the hippopotamus. And maybe someday, if we're lucky enough, we'll find her on the streets and drag her into the studio and interview her. David Patrick (24:14.974) I would love to because I have so many questions, so many questions and so many books to talk about. So many books, so little time. One of my favorites was also I thought it was a red light, green light or blue fish, gray fish, but. Blue hat, green hat. I loved it because I mean, you know what? Yeah, there's one page where it goes red shirt, blue shirt, yellow shirt. Oops. Mike Walker (24:17.356) I know, right? Yeah. So many. Mike Walker (24:30.122) It was something about hats. Yeah, I love that one too. David Patrick (24:45.238) And all I had to do was look at that one page and go, this one's funny because the Turkey keeps messing up. but that's all I'm going to say. Maybe, Mike Walker (24:48.341) Oops. Mike Walker (24:51.681) Yes. Mike Walker (24:55.131) maybe we should have done this for Thanksgiving. We'll do it again this Thanksgiving in 2026. David Patrick (24:57.943) Yes! David Patrick (25:02.962) I was thinking that because I don't, don't mean to be like jumping the gun here, getting a little overconfident, but I'm thinking that by Thanksgiving 2026 will still be in business is what I'm thinking. Are you thinking? Yeah. Mike Walker (25:04.535) Yeah. Mike Walker (25:07.832) Yes. Mike Walker (25:15.624) I'm thinking. I'm thinking. Yeah. So a couple of things occurred to me while we were doing some other shows, especially with Dan Gutman, because I thought maybe we could emulate Dan because he is so funny. We had such a great time with Dan. And David Patrick (25:27.725) Mm-hmm. David Patrick (25:43.743) yeah, it was great. Mike Walker (25:45.101) One of the things that I love that he does every week on Facebook and probably other places that he's at, he has Dad Joke Monday. And since we come out on a Monday, I thought maybe we should do Dad Joke Monday as well. So we can like brand it. Dan Gutman's Dad Joke Monday. David Patrick (25:52.888) Mm-hmm. David Patrick (25:56.438) I love it. David Patrick (26:01.112) Mm-hmm. David Patrick (26:06.037) definitely. David Patrick (26:12.536) Presented by Sandra Boynton and illustrated by Mo Willems and David Decaf, dude. Mike Walker (26:20.172) with plenty of peas and tea. So I thought maybe what we do is we grab a dad joke book, which I have handy. David Patrick (26:23.042) Yeah! David Patrick (26:28.738) Yes. I'm looking for mine because I bought one. I did! Yeah. No, what happened? Yeah. Wait. What? Even if you drink coffee near them? No, what happened was you have mentioned this before. Mike Walker (26:33.196) You bought one? my gosh. Wow. You know you can just check them out at the library. Mike Walker (26:44.258) Yes. Mike Walker (26:48.6) speak up. David Patrick (26:50.03) You have mentioned this before, and as all of you who are listening and or seeing this know, I went and bought a bunch of Dan Gutman books, but I also checked out a ton of books from four different amazing local libraries. found a dad joke book and I thought, Oh, I got to buy that because Mike and I are going to do dad jokes. And I'm trying to find that dad joke, the damn dad joke book. Mike Walker (27:08.407) Yeah. Mike Walker (27:13.068) The Dan Dad Joke Book or the Damn Dad Joke Book? David Patrick (27:18.249) Exactly. So anyway. Mike Walker (27:19.512) What did the fish say when it ran into a wall? David Patrick (27:24.76) Damn. That's one of my favorites. And you've mentioned it to me recently, but I've heard I love that one. I have a, there's a, someone's daughter the other day would make me do dad jokes left and right. And when I'm under pressure like that, I couldn't think of any. I thought of that one. I thought of that one. I rare, I uncharacteristically censored myself and thought, I don't care how well I know her. I'm not going to make a joke about damn to a nine-year-old girl. So, or any kid for that. Mike Walker (27:28.76) Mm-mm. Mike Walker (27:40.119) Never. Mike Walker (27:51.372) Ha ha! Mike Walker (27:57.437) understand. Have you given up? Because I see you not searching anymore. Or did you find it? David Patrick (28:03.862) I did not find it. I'm going to let me see if I can find it. Mike Walker (28:06.178) How about, okay, would you like me to read my joke while you're looking? So this is a joke that is very humorous that I just opened the page to and went, I don't know if I like that joke, but I decided that I'm just opening a book and reading the first joke that I find. And I'm taking my time because David still hasn't found his book yet. David Patrick (28:10.24) Yes. Yes, please. David Patrick (28:33.934) Sorry. Mike Walker (28:35.336) This and I will explain a little bit. This is a joke about King Arthur and his court and it goes like this Mike Walker (28:50.38) The biggest night at King Arthur's court or sorry. Okay. I'm going to cut that. The biggest night at King Arthur's round table was circumference. David Patrick (28:58.424) Hmm David Patrick (29:08.898) my gosh. Mike Walker (29:10.796) He acquired his size by eating too much pie. David Patrick (29:14.458) Ha Mike Walker (29:19.69) I didn't realize that this book was gonna be so funny. David Patrick (29:24.642) That is awesome. So we will definitely do an episode. We'll schedule it to give me enough time to find my book because it is a different one. Mike Walker (29:26.144) I know. Mike Walker (29:32.152) I think we'll just do Dad Joke Monday on every episode. I mean, this is like the first or second or I think it's the first episode of 2026. I almost said 2006. Whoo, that'll take you back. But yeah, I think that that is our New Year's resolution. Have a dad joke in every show. David Patrick (29:38.542) yeah yeah yeah yeah. David Patrick (29:46.061) think you're right. David Patrick (29:54.605) Yes. We must have 52 dad jokes ready to go for 2026. Mike Walker (30:03.448) Let's make that 103 or 105. No, Math is hard. David Patrick (30:09.038) Okay, yeah. But yeah, I'm why what why 125? Mike Walker (30:17.176) I don't see now I messed it up because I started thinking about the year of 365 and then I went to 64 and I was trying to 52 doubled is 50 is 104 minus one because you didn't have one this week. So I would I my math just. David Patrick (30:26.256) dear gosh. 54. 104. David Patrick (30:34.734) You're right. David Patrick (30:39.552) because we each bring one. Mike Walker (30:42.16) Exactly! You didn't get that? Wow. well. Only two cups of coffee will do that to you. David Patrick (30:43.714) Man, I don't get anything. I'm not a getter today. David Patrick (30:50.512) Yeah! Woohoo! Okay. Mike Walker (30:53.108) I'm sorry, I just switched to Senka. Have some pity. David Patrick (30:58.616) That's funny, Mike never has two cups of coffee at home. Mike Walker (31:04.546) So there we go. You're not going to find it. We should just sign off. David Patrick (31:09.324) Okay. was lovely talking to you about books as usual, Mike, and, lovely to revisit Sandra Boynton. She's fantastic.
