New Visionary Podcast

S1 E31. Based in Austin, TX, artist Meam Hartshorn joins us for a meaningful conversation about growth, creativity, and change. Inspired by the natural landscape, Meam allows her paintings to evolve organically, with room for experimentation in her artistic practice. Themes of natural phenomena and our relationship to the environment are present in Meam’s ongoing series of work. Here’s what we discuss:

1. The pressure emerging artists often face when starting their art careers, and why it’s essential to follow your intuition.

2. The importance of embracing growth and change in your work, especially if you’re ready to explore a new style or different subject matter.

3. How to remove restrictions and limitations from your creative practice in order to tap into your full potential as an artist.

4. What inspired Meam to launch The Artful Collective, and why she’s excited to further support fellow artists.

About Meam:

Meam Hartshorn was born and raised in Grand Junction, Colorado, where she cultivated a love for art-making and the outdoors from an early age. Her work explores natural cycles, such as geologic history, succession, and symbiotic relationships. Inspired by these concepts, her work bridges imagery of the ever shifting natural world with abstracted visions of our own internal evolution and landscapes. Meam received her BA in Studio Art and Psychology from Kenyon College. After graduating with distinction and receiving the Robert H. Hallstein Memorial Award in Art, she has lived and worked in Austin, TX. Meam has exhibited her work across the country, and she is the founder of The Artful Collective, an arts platform providing resources and opportunities for emerging artists.
