Sermon on the Mount. 00:00:50.980 --> 00:00:56.800 Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount has, previously before this, has called everyone to the kingdom. 00:00:57.620 --> 00:00:58.860 He is the king. 00:00:58.860 --> 00:01:01.860 He is called into the kingdom through repentance. 00:01:01.860 --> 00:01:07.820 And now in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus is giving instructions. 00:01:08.400 --> Does the gospel penetrate parts or all of your life? 00:03:32.480 --> 00:03:37.620 And if the gospel doesn't penetrate just parts of your life, it should penetrate all 00:03:37.620 --> 00:03:43.600 of for it is the throne of God, 00:04:10.180 --> 00:04:15.260 or by the earth, for it is the footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great 00:04:15.260 --> 00:04:15.620 king. 00:04:16.360 don't like to say, well, you're a liar, or I'm a liar, or I tell lies, or you tell lies. 00:08:11.740 --> 00:08:18.520 So, we've even found, like, in our verbiage, in the words that we use, we try to politicians to lie to you, but you can't lie to them. 00:09:57.840 --> 00:10:07.920 Every country, every people of all time are trying to figure out not how do I tell the truth, 00:10:07.920 --> 00:10:16.640 but how do I twist the truth in order to favor myself. 00:10:17.880 --> 00:10:21.480 During the time of Jesus, oaths were common. 00:10:22.300 --> 00:10:24.560 We see oaths made in the Old Testament, 00:10:25.480 --> 00:10:31.720 and without getting into a five-hour study about what the Old Testament does or doesn't say concerning oaths, 00:10:31.720 --> 00:10:34.060 let's establish that oaths were common. 00:10:34.780 --> 00:10:36.020 Covenants were common. 00:10:36.580 --> 00:10:38.040 Promises were common. 00:10:38.760 --> 00:10:40.320 God made them to his people, 00:10:41.080 --> 00:10:44.540 and God's people made promises to him. 00:10:45.760 --> 00:10:50.160 Oftentimes, when God's people made promises to God, 00:10:50.940 --> 00:10:55.100 they were prefaced by a phrase similar to, 00:10:55.840 --> 00:10:59.320 and on the name or by the name of the Lord, 00:11:00.280 --> 00:11:02.040 and then the promise was made. 00:11:03.480 --> 00:11:12.140 Establishing God as the 00:12:09.140 they could make promises, 00:12:10.060 --> 00:12:14.220 and then as a result of the loophole they've created, 00:12:14.880 --> 00:12:17.640 they could then go back on their word, 00:12:17.820 --> 00:12:21.160 or go back on the truth by telling a lie. 00:12:22.340 --> 00:12:23.500 They would say things like, 00:12:23.640 --> 00:12:24.900 I swear by heaven, 00:12:25.200 --> 00:12:26.820 I swear by the earth, 00:12:27.160 --> 00:12:29.060 I swear by Jerusalem, 00:12:29.520 --> 00:12:32.060 I swear by my own head, 00:12:32.320 --> 00:12:35.440 I swear by as long as I live. 00:12:35.940 --> 00:12:41.700 And as long as they didn't invoke the name of God in the moment, 00:12:42.740 --> 00:12:48.100 then the teaching of the day was it was right for them to lie, 00:12:48.220 ought. 00:14:38.380 --> 00:14:43.660 Pray for and seek for God to expose the sinfulness of your heart. 00:14:45.040 --> 00:14:59.200 I think to be a person of truth, it has to begin with being honest with yourself and with being honest with ourself in the moment where the flesh begins to come up and we want to lie, 00:14:59.200 --> 00:15:15.180 where we have the desire to lie in and out the first
