Study His Word: Read The Bible In A Year

"The throes of the divided kingdom continue but still there are lessons for us to learn. The northern kingdom of Israel deteriorates spiritually even further, under these kings. Elijah is the architype OT prophet. In Jesus’ transfiguration, he appears with Moses the lawgiver, to represent the law and the prophets (Matt. 17:2-3). His first mention in the OT is in v1 but he is already a known prophet, as Ahad and his official Obadiah recognize him (18:7, 17). Baal worship has gone national and God is using a great prophet to intervene. As depicted, Elijah is God’s man and now he has to confront directly the prophets of Baal."
