The Varosity AI GTM Report

Altman and Musk endorse Amodei's call to pace the frontier, Trump and Speaker Johnson reject it, the three biggest labs quietly build a standards body, Microsoft ships a Code of Conduct for its MAI models, Anthropic's profits and its $13.7B compute bet surface, and Xi opens a rival AI table at BRICS.

Show Notes

A rare thing happened today: Sam Altman and Elon Musk publicly agreed with Dario Amodei. Both backed his call to "pace the frontier," with Altman matching Anthropic's pledge to let independent evaluators inside with employee-level access, and Musk replying with three words: "Dario is right." Washington went the other way — President Trump dismissed the idea from the Irish Open, Speaker Mike Johnson called rushed AI restrictions a national security threat, and David Sacks argued the labs can already pace themselves without a law, while Barack Obama pressed Democrats to build a real AI framework. The Information reported that Anthropic, OpenAI and Google DeepMind have been quietly meeting since July to build an industry-led AI standards body. Satya Nadella endorsed pacing and announced a Code of Conduct for Microsoft's first-party MAI models. Anthropic's financials surfaced too — a second straight profitable quarter on $11.5B in Q2 revenue, alongside a report naming it as the customer behind RUM Group's $13.7B GPU deal in Georgia. And at the BRICS summit in New Delhi, Xi Jinping pitched a rival open-source AI bloc. Jack King on what all of it means for revenue and go-to-market teams.
