It's time to get reading and discussing in The Fake Nerd Book Club! The Fake Nerds have loved ending each episode of their podcast with a book club segment. That segment has expanded to its own show, featuring deeper explorations of whole series, special deep dives on novels, interviews with creators, and the archive of segments from the original FNP show.
For his rotational pick, Ryan has brought Ultimate Comics: The Ultimates Volume 1 - The Republic is Burning written by Jonathan Hickman, with art by Esad Ribic. This covers the first 6 issues of Hickman's relaunch for the series that tied-in with a title wide relaunch in 2011. The guys get into their history with the Ultimate universe, where this story finds that universe after the death of Peter Parker, how Hickman used elements here as testing ground for later efforts with Marvel, and the strong work that comes from him teaming with Ribic for art. There's a lot to say about this time in comics, this creator, and the story itself. We had a blast reading and discussing, so we hope you enjoy it as well!
