Industry Ready

This is the official podcast from Technical Education Skills Trust, the operator of London Design & Engineering UTC, LDE UT6th Form, Engineering Skills College, East London Furniture Institute (ELFI), and the Industry & Educators Exchange (IndEX).

In this episode of Industry Ready, we meet Famida, Subject Lead for Mechatronics and Robotics, who introduces learners and parents/carers to the exciting T Level in Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing. Famida explains how the course goes far beyond classroom theory, giving learners the chance to put their knowledge into practice through electronics, robotics, automation, circuit design, CAD, and programming. With projects ranging from designing drones with the British Army to using industry-standard Festo automation equipment, learners build an impressive “skills bag” designed to prepare them for the real world of engineering.

Famida also shares the huge range of opportunities available throughout the two-year course, including 315 hours of industry placement, employer projects, and the chance to compete in WorldSkills UK Automation alongside university students and apprentices. Whether learners are considering careers in electronics, robotics, automation, construction, aviation, or engineering, this course gives them practical experience, technical knowledge, and the confidence to stand out when applying for university, apprenticeships, or employment. Famida’s passion for engineering and for seeing her learners succeed shines through — and it’s clear there’s never a dull moment in her classroom! 😊
