People, Planet, Progress

The Climate Report for 7/1/25 features an interview with Shirley Freriks, a local mover and shaker with the Nevada County chapter of Climate Action Now and their Waste Not group.

She’s here to talk about Plastic-Free July and its theme of microplastics, as well as a couple of events bookending the month:

- First is the kick off event for Plastic-Free July that happened on June 29th at the Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada City, featuring speaker Professor Kenneth Moore.

- Then a celebratory event takes place July 23rd at 4:30pm at the Gold Vibe Kombuchary in Grass Valley, with fun and engaging ways to celebrate making a difference, including local nonprofits such as SYRCL.
