Elkanah and his two wives, Hannah and Peninnah, are introduced. Hannah is loved by her husband, but childless. She weeps and prays before God when they go to present their yearly sacrifices to Yahweh at Shiloh. Yahweh subsequently causes her to conceive a son. Hannah puts off returning for the yearly sacrifices until Samuel is weaned, because after that he will live there as Yahweh's servant. Read from the World English Bible
