Taking Flight: The Entrepreneurs Journey Podcast

Today’s guest is Josh Sweeney, President of FounderScale and Founder of Epic Culture. Josh shares with Sarah what he got right on his entrepreneur journey and who influenced him to become the entrepreneur he is today. Josh explains what his company does and how it helps founders become better founders of their businesses. He dives into the extreme challenges that he faced when starting his company and how he was able to pull himself out of it with the help of others. Josh also talks about the misconceptions about how sales and marketing work. Please tune in to this episode! We learned so much!

Takeaways:
  • One thing that Josh got right is focusing on continuing his education. His belief is that there is already someone who's done it well, so he feels as though he doesn’t have to learn these lessons the hard way. He looked outward for solutions and in return learned from others that had been there before him.
  • Josh’s number one co-pilot that stayed by his side through his whole entrepreneurial journey is his wife. His wife grew up around an entrepreneurial family and with her help, Josh was able to accomplish his life goals.
  • Another co-pilot that made a big imprint on Josh’s journey was the EO Organization. Having mentors and advisors involved in EO helped influence him during the start of his business.
  • Josh’s last co-pilot is his business partner. Having business partners, taught him many valuable lessons about building his company and what it takes to be successful.
  • The biggest challenge that Josh has encountered is marketing and sales, specifically, clients having unrealistic expectations. Josh explains that clients will look to them for guidance, but they have a certain understanding of their own belief system. That belief system may or may not be accurate. In order to fix this, his team gets a lot of unrealistic expectations and looked at how can we solve that.
  • Josh makes himself a self-goal every year. By setting yourself your own goal, it will be easier to accomplish the list of things you've been meaning to get to.

Quote of the Show:
  • “I want to help founders grow and understand by the connections we make.” (10:31)
