Settle Down

The aunties are back for a surprise episode in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Mallory, Vanessa and Shani gather to share their memories of their dear friend Georgina Lightning, who passed away earlier this September. The Aunties also talk openly and honestly about the complicated feelings September 30th brings up for them—as not only Indigenous women, but also Indigenous business owners. The Aunties discuss how this day was intended to be an opportunity for Indigenous Peoples to rest while Canada reflects on the legacy of residential schools, remembering what happened so it doesn't happen again. However, the Aunties discuss how quickly the day devolved into a performative holiday for many Canadians and a very busy season as Indigenous entrepreneurs. They ask the question, "but if we don't do the work, who will?" It's complicated!

So pull up a chair, pour yourself something warm and settle in. It's time to Settle Down.
