Setting goals is a lot like driving a car. The majority of time is future-focused, looking ahead out the front windscreen.Research shows it is important to also periodically check the rear view mirror and remind ourselves of achievements made and where we have come from.
As we inch agonisingly closer towards the end of another big year, Andrew and Angela Poon from StriveStronger discuss the 7 (plus 1) areas Andrew uses for himself and for his clients to look back at the end of the year and reflect on achievements, lessons and learnings.
Andrew and Angela discuss personal examples from the previous calendar year, with a few surprises along the way. And for those listeners wanting to go deeper, Andrew provides an outline for self-reflective awareness (SRA), which is a ‘meta-cognitive’ ability that involves thinking about and reflecting on your own mental processes. “People with a strong SRA are able to generate a self-narrative that is complex, clear, and multifaceted. They are capable of communicating in a way that allows others to have a much better understanding of who they are and where they are coming from”.
"Reflect upon your blessings of which every man and woman has plenty; not on your lost misfortunes, of which we all have some." - Charles Dickens.
