Welcome to episode #22! In this week's episode, Braden and Matt discuss identity and why it may be the single most important thing in having freedom and victory over things like porn!
Identity shapes our mindset
Identity shapes our mindset
We tend to make choices based on what we think about ourselves and what we think about our world. Pornography and other addictive behaviors are destructive and those behaviors can shape our beliefs, and what we believe about ourselves. If we believe that we are abandoned, lost, dirty, unlovable, and rejected, then we will steer the course of our lives based on those lies.
God gives us our identity
When we understand that we have a God-given identity, we better understand our relationship with Him and what that means for who we are and how we live. If we live with the understanding that we are accepted, loved, affirmed, and have salvation through Jesus, then our lives will reflect living out of those truths. But we have to accept those truths and trust God and His promises.
God-given identity gives us the foundation to have freedom from things like porn
When life brings about difficult circumstances and if we live out of our God-given identity as Joseph did, we are not consumed but live free. Free from shame, free from performance, free from lies, free from feeling, and acting like we are alone or rejected. Then we have our inner most needs met by God, and we can start to see and receive healing from addictive behaviors and destructive patterns.
