Femme On

Alyson and Liz Santoro (Cinematographer and Camera Operator on features and travel shows, most recently Never Say Never with Jeff Jenkins for Disney +) talk about Joan is Awful (Season 6, Episode 1 of Black Mirror) and specifically the scene where the two stars of the episode, Annie Murphy (as Joan) and Salma Hayek (as herself) meet.  It’s a powerful feminist scene that passes the Bechdel Test with flying colors and it’s fun to watch two women decide that instead of blaming each for this flaming pile of shit situation they find themselves in, they decide to become allies in their quest to take it all down. Alyson loved talking with longtime friend and sometime collaborator Liz (Liz shot Alyson’s feature film, Eve of Understanding) and putting their film school hats back on to dissect a scene and talk about all the things that are right about it.
