यथा वेषः तथा आचारः

कदाचित् कश्चन बहुरूपः भोजराजस्य आस्थानम् आगत्य उदरपूरणाय पञ्चरूप्यकाणि अयाचत । किन्तु राजा वदति यत् 'अहं दानं न करोमि । कलाकारान् पुरस्करोमि । कापि कला यदि भवति स्यात् तर्हि सा दर्श्यताम्' इति । बहुरूपेण दिनत्रयं सन्यासिवेषः प्रभावितया दर्शितः । यदा राजा आगत्य लक्षं सुवर्णनाणकानि समर्पितवान् चेदपि सन्यासिवेषधारी बहुरूपः नेत्रे न उद्घाटितवान्  । वेषानुगुणं व्यवहरणीयम् इति धिया तत् धनं तुच्छत्वेन परिगणितम् आसीत् तेन ।

Once, a performer came to King Bhoja's court and asked for five rupees for food. The king replied that he did not give charity but rewarded talent, and asked him to show his skill. The performer then acted as a saint for three days so convincingly that everyone was impressed. Even when the king offered him a lakh of gold coins, he did not open his eyes. Staying true to the role of a saint, he treated the wealth as worthless.
