Sounds In Our Changing World Presents: Zone Rouge

Examining heatwaves in Montreal, how they can lead to death among vulnerable people and how the climate crisis is making them more intense.

Show Notes

Climate models predict the number of days above 30 degrees will increase significantly in Montreal in the decades to come. But these heat waves won't affect everyone in the city equally. In this episode, we take a tour through Montreal in the grip of a heat wave, exploring the city's unequally distributed urban heat islands, diving into an overheating human body, and examining a neighbourhood where measures meant to address heat waves are having a nearly opposite effect.

What is Sounds In Our Changing World Presents: Zone Rouge?

Zone Rouge is a series about eco-gentrification, about hidden rivers, about urban coyotes, and about environmental racism - in other words, it's a series about the climate crisis, and its effect on Montreal. Over eight episodes, it'll explore the effect of the climate crisis on Montreal, through the sounds and voices of the city, and it'll highlight how Montrealers are responding to the challenges posed by climate change with resilience and creativity.
