The Vance Crowe Podcast

Fordham University English Professor Elizabeth Stone teaches the literature of immigration and memoir, and shares her insights on family stories as well as lesser-known figures in American history. Among them are Georgina Schuyler, great-granddaughter of Alexander Hamilton, who transformed the Statue of Liberty from a rundown and failed lighthouse to a world famous symbol of welcome to immigrants, and Pierre Toussaint, a 19th century Haitian immigrant who became a wealthy and well-known hairdresser to rich and famous New Yorkers, and was set on the road to sainthood in 1997 by Pope John Paul II.

Elizabeth and Vance discuss the importance of telling one's story to reformulate the narrative of their life, particularly in the context of inherited farmland and the emotional weight of family legacy.
