Hunting used to be a sacred practice (and in many parts of the world it still is). However, in the modernized Western world, we've gotten away from the traditional practices around sourcing our own food, which used to be a source of great spiritual and personal growth. We were excited to speak with Mansal Denton about his experience leading hunting trips that brought people back in touch with the sacred elements of hunting:
- Building confidence in self
- Intimacy with nature
- Connecting with food
- Healthy relationship with death
- Brotherhood and community
- Primal masculinity
Mansal's story beyond hunting is remarkable. As a young man, Mansal ran into trouble with the law and found himself in jail. The time away from society shaped a new perspective on life for the young man, and within the confines of prison Mansal begin to resurrect a brighter future. In our discussion, we talk about masculinity and the cultural significance of rite's of passage. We also discuss the power of handing down tradition and knowledge from one generation to the next, as a way to shape and form strong men.
