00;00;00;11 - 00;00;21;25 Mark I'm okay. I've got enough now. Hey, maniac. Hey, me. 00;00;21;28 - 00;00;24;07 Sarah That hey was almost as long as the break that we took. 00;00;24;08 - 00;00;27;06 Mark Yeah, exactly. We've been off for two weeks. 00;00;27;07 - 00;00;29;24 Sarah Long time, no talk. 00;00;29;26 - 00;00;34;09 Mark But we still provided content. Oh, boy. Did we provide you content. 00;00;34;12 - 00;00;37;21 Sarah Thank you. And that's so much. She was great fun. 00;00;37;22 - 00;00;41;20 Mark If you haven't listened to our Net Badlands interview, what have you been doing? 00;00;41;23 - 00;00;48;01 Sarah One of my friends that works. And we should make a T-shirt that says Grandkids. Kittens. 00;00;48;03 - 00;01;08;22 Mark If you listen to the episode, you know what that means. Dope Mystery Maniacs is a comedy Recap podcast dedicated to mystery TV. Each week we dig into an episode of a show, including the murders, the mayhem, the loonies, and everything else we love. This week, Murder mysteries Season one Episode 11 Bad Medicine. 00;01;08;22 - 00;01;10;24 Sarah And If you've forgotten, I'm Sarah. 00;01;10;26 - 00;01;17;16 Mark And I'm Mark. And I'm Not Don. Jon Bon Jovi. Well, because your love is like bad medicine. 00;01;17;17 - 00;01;19;11 Both Oh, how the wow. 00;01;19;11 - 00;01;25;17 Sarah Wow. And yeah, he does have a frog in his throat. He has been to Canada and he brought a frog back. I don't know what that is. 00;01;25;18 - 00;01;28;06 Mark I went to Canada and guess what it was called. 00;01;28;09 - 00;01;29;24 Sarah Is that why your throat's like that? 00;01;30;00 - 00;01;32;11 Mark I just started yesterday. 00;01;32;13 - 00;01;36;10 Sarah Yeah, I think you were there screaming. I must. Your voice. 00;01;36;15 - 00;01;36;29 Mark Maybe. 00;01;37;02 - 00;01;39;13 Sarah But it wasn't for hockey that you were screaming big. 00;01;39;13 - 00;01;50;18 Mark Not of the hockey. Hockey is all done. And apparently my hockey team is all destroyed, so maybe hockey will never come back ever again. 00;01;50;20 - 00;01;52;23 Sarah That makes you feel better. 00;01;52;26 - 00;01;53;02 Both Well, I'm. 00;01;53;03 - 00;02;17;28 Sarah Just. Say no more about it. Wow. No, I will say while you were gone. So maybe some of you have this, too, with your significant other. We have sort of an informal arrangement that when one of us is away, there are certain things on TV. The other one does not watch without them. Yes, it's like Netflix, infidelity or something, that if it's something that we watch together, we don't watch it apart. 00;02;17;28 - 00;02;19;23 Sarah We wait and we watch it together. 00;02;19;24 - 00;02;22;24 Mark So Newman New midsummer's arrived while I was away. 00;02;22;24 - 00;02;44;23 Sarah I would not have watched. Not a watch that you got to then. So that that means that I'm left trying to find something to watch that you won't like? Yeah. Basically something I think I will enjoy. But that you won't be like, Oh, I'm going to watch that. Yes. So with that being said, I watched a show called School Spirit this week on Paramount Plus. 00;02;44;25 - 00;02;59;10 Sarah That's about a girl who dies in her high school. She wakes up as a ghost in the high school, along with a lot of other people from different time periods who also died thereabouts. 00;02;59;12 - 00;03;04;03 Mark So it's like ghosts with teens, but romance and scary. 00;03;04;05 - 00;03;06;24 Sarah Yeah, it's no, it's a really good mystery as well. 00;03;06;26 - 00;03;07;09 Mark That's good. 00;03;07;10 - 00;03;22;13 Sarah This is a really good eight episodes, about an hour piece. It's not gory, but it's also not teenybopper. Kiss. Kiss either has a little levity in it, but it's a it's a really good mystery. Oh, so I recommend it Paramount. 00;03;22;15 - 00;03;26;24 Mark Plus also has Mrs. Davis, which is currently one of our favorite television shows. 00;03;26;26 - 00;03;29;16 Sarah It's about a nun fighting an evil I. 00;03;29;18 - 00;03;41;13 Mark I'm going to go crazy and say it is right now. Now, there are two episodes left if you got to stick the ending. Yeah, but it is, in my opinion, one of the top ten shows of all time. 00;03;41;15 - 00;03;46;20 Sarah It's one of the best written things on TV in a long time, that's for sure. It's utterly unpredictable. 00;03;46;24 - 00;03;55;19 Mark If my my brother, who I saw in Canada, said that he had watched the first two episodes, I was like, I know so much that you don't know. 00;03;55;22 - 00;04;07;12 Sarah And and you won't even be able to guess. Yeah, it's so unpredictable, but really, really good stuff. You're looking for something unpredictable. You're looking for something to watch. I would strongly recommend Mrs. Davis if you spirits. 00;04;07;14 - 00;04;14;15 Mark If you watch, if you watch the movie, everything everywhere all at once and enjoyed it. Mrs. Davis is kind of in that vein. 00;04;14;20 - 00;04;28;11 Sarah Yeah, You'll like it. Yeah. Yeah. You may have also noticed that there is new broken word out on ACORN. Yeah, as well as new dog leash. The new. The new dog wishes are really good if you ever. 00;04;28;14 - 00;04;29;20 Mark Get a poetry reading. 00;04;29;22 - 00;04;36;29 Sarah Yes, yes. If you ever read the books or you watch the old version. I really like this and it's really well done. 00;04;37;06 - 00;04;38;19 Mark Yeah, he is fantastic. 00;04;38;19 - 00;04;39;04 Sarah Yeah, he. 00;04;39;04 - 00;04;41;20 Mark Does. And the great poetry reading voice. 00;04;41;25 - 00;04;46;05 Sarah And the actor's name is Bart. Isn't that birdie? Birdie. That's it. 00;04;46;08 - 00;04;47;08 Mark Yes. 00;04;47;10 - 00;04;51;17 Sarah He's the best looking birdie I've ever seen. He's handsome for a birdie. 00;04;51;17 - 00;04;55;29 Mark Speaking of midsummer, also on Sunday. 00;04;56;01 - 00;04;57;08 Sarah Who is speaking a midsummer? 00;04;57;08 - 00;05;19;19 Mark I don't know. That's what I'm going to say. Nice Segway Sunday, 28th on ITV. For our British listeners, you will finally get for death for Bear. Now, remember, about a month ago you were supposed to get it and then some royal draft, a book. And the interview takes precedence and probably not. So barring royal emergency. 00;05;19;19 - 00;05;20;18 Both Yes. 00;05;20;20 - 00;05;24;04 Sarah Like another coronation, some more fun or something. 00;05;24;05 - 00;05;32;13 Mark Sunday, the 28th on ITV. You should get for Desperate Pair, which is the Midsomer Curry episode. 00;05;32;15 - 00;05;35;28 Sarah So listen to the many first, watch the episode and then listen to the follow. 00;05;35;28 - 00;05;42;05 Mark Up and I'll be on all our socials this week. I'll push that out to our socials, the many and the full episode. 00;05;42;06 - 00;05;44;09 Sarah Are you ready to talk about bad medicine? 00;05;44;17 - 00;06;01;20 Mark I am ready to talk about Bad medicine. Original Air Date March 31st, 2008 Directed by John LeClair L Apostrophe C ui pr dude by a consonant for your name and Derek's writer wrote it. 00;06;01;23 - 00;06;03;08 Sarah Okay, it's a crossbow. 00;06;03;09 - 00;06;09;07 Mark This is a great, great cold opening for an episode that needs some work. 00;06;09;09 - 00;06;15;01 Sarah It started off real strong. Yeah. And then the plot gets a bit dubious. 00;06;15;03 - 00;06;16;22 Mark First of all, they're in a park. 00;06;16;24 - 00;06;19;01 Sarah Is it a park or is it the grounds of the institute? 00;06;19;01 - 00;06;21;12 Mark It's a park nearby. In the park. 00;06;21;14 - 00;06;24;26 Sarah Near the Brain Institute Institute for the Poor Mind, the. 00;06;24;26 - 00;06;29;25 Mark Brain Institute. And there is a cloaked figure with a crossbow. Oh, instant drama. 00;06;29;27 - 00;06;40;06 Sarah Hey, at least run in the zigzag or something. I don't know. Somebody's shooting you in the back with a crossbow. Like, I don't know, Duck Ravine. 00;06;40;06 - 00;06;42;26 Mark Get something that will cover you. 00;06;42;26 - 00;06;44;06 Sarah Lay down. 00;06;44;09 - 00;06;45;28 Mark Behind that light pole. 00;06;45;28 - 00;06;47;08 Sarah Trashcan lid. 00;06;47;08 - 00;06;47;19 Mark Something. 00;06;47;22 - 00;06;53;04 Sarah I don't know. He's running and it's sticking out his back. Yeah. And kind of. 00;06;53;07 - 00;06;54;08 Mark To through already. 00;06;54;08 - 00;06;58;27 Sarah Oh, it just would hurt so much. Yeah. And he's still yelling Help me, help me. 00;06;58;27 - 00;07;04;09 Mark I would assume that he would be screaming, but also maybe his lungs have collapsed. 00;07;04;09 - 00;07;09;13 Sarah Yeah, I would think they'd be close to it. Yeah. So this is Doctor Francis Grout? Yes. 00;07;09;13 - 00;07;25;10 Mark Do you know why they're called bolts? No, because originally this is what is suspected. So bolts go and crossbows and arrows go in bows. But that's different now. Now all the crossbows that you can buy, all take arrows to. 00;07;25;10 - 00;07;26;00 Sarah Okay. 00;07;26;02 - 00;07;37;23 Mark They're usually shorter and more stout. Right? Bigger around. And these certainly fit that. The crossbow he has the modern cross it's a it's a crossbow from mid century. 00;07;37;26 - 00;07;50;08 Sarah It's not super modern. It's not like one of the fiberglass mills they use now. No, no. You watch the Olympics and crossbows. They don't even look like crossbows. No, no. It's like those electric violins that don't look like violins. Yeah, they're really tacky. 00;07;50;15 - 00;07;55;16 Mark So originally crossbows were giant, right? They were siege weaponry. 00;07;55;17 - 00;07;58;11 Sarah Yeah. You had to come with your foot, didn't you? 00;07;58;14 - 00;08;00;20 Mark Or even bigger than that. 00;08;00;23 - 00;08;02;09 Sarah You crank a couple of. 00;08;02;14 - 00;08;10;22 Mark Huge crank and they used to shoot basically trees. Yeah, right. But these trees were squared not round. 00;08;10;24 - 00;08;11;23 Sarah And that's why they're bolt. 00;08;11;23 - 00;08;13;13 Mark And that's why they're called bolts. 00;08;13;16 - 00;08;21;06 Sarah Interesting, because everything else called the bolt is round. It's cylindrical like a bolt. The fabric or a nuts and bolts. Yeah. Huh. 00;08;21;12 - 00;08;25;01 Mark I want one of those things screaming at me. 00;08;25;04 - 00;08;27;15 Sarah There's bolts of lightning to. 00;08;27;17 - 00;08;32;05 Mark Either the bolt from this crossbow or that giant one. 00;08;32;08 - 00;08;34;06 Sarah You don't think you can dodge a log? 00;08;34;09 - 00;08;34;23 Mark No. 00;08;34;24 - 00;08;37;18 Sarah Come on. I couldn't move very fast. 00;08;37;20 - 00;08;39;17 Mark Some of those are really. 00;08;39;17 - 00;08;41;12 Sarah Big rubber band, Some. 00;08;41;12 - 00;08;48;09 Mark Of those siege weaponry. They must've shot it for the first time. And everybody went, Wow, what the hell was that? 00;08;48;11 - 00;08;59;22 Sarah Okay, we're going to need some checks under the wheels because it moved backwards as far as the bolt moves forward and Birdie got run over. Yeah, Yeah. So he gets shot a few times, goes down. Yeah. 00;08;59;22 - 00;09;15;03 Mark He he goes down in front, like right beside a lamppost and then we do scene of the crime next in a pretty nice transition by the way Bolt came We didn't even talk about that. You know how they filmed that. 00;09;15;05 - 00;09;19;00 Sarah Camera bolt taped to the camera? Yes. 00;09;19;00 - 00;09;20;23 Mark And then they just spin the camera. 00;09;20;23 - 00;09;24;11 Both Oh, okay. 00;09;24;13 - 00;09;28;25 Mark Well, they don't actually make the camera go like a long distance. 00;09;28;28 - 00;09;32;15 Sarah They didn't duct tape a GoPro to it and shoot it out of an actual crossbow. 00;09;32;15 - 00;09;33;04 Mark They did. 00;09;33;04 - 00;09;45;29 Sarah It. Why not? That would have been fun. Yeah. And so Grout has painted w y Well, we'll talk about whether it was grout or not with his own blood on the Handy Dandy Rock. 00;09;46;00 - 00;09;48;14 Mark How does it get to that blood? 00;09;48;16 - 00;09;52;24 Sarah That's a good question. And one I wondered, too, unless it's dribbling out his face. 00;09;52;24 - 00;09;53;11 Mark Maybe. 00;09;53;11 - 00;09;59;03 Sarah You've got that many internal injuries. You might be drooling blood a little bit, maybe, but it's really solid. 00;09;59;03 - 00;10;01;07 Mark Those letters are really well, right. 00;10;01;09 - 00;10;08;13 Sarah It's got to reach around like when you've got an itch on your back that's kind of hard to reach and like, stick your finger in the wound and like. 00;10;08;16 - 00;10;10;03 Mark Okay, I've got enough now. 00;10;10;05 - 00;10;10;26 Sarah That's one. 00;10;10;26 - 00;10;15;10 Mark But the rock is nowhere near him. When he falls, there's a problem. 00;10;15;10 - 00;10;16;18 Sarah Here. I don't think he did it. 00;10;16;18 - 00;10;19;18 Mark I don't think he did it either. And I think the body's been moved. 00;10;19;23 - 00;10;29;27 Sarah Yeah, I think the killer remember, this is a spoiler podcast. We're going to talk about who did it. Yes. If you haven't watched the episode stop right now, because the killer is Bennie. 00;10;29;28 - 00;10;30;20 Mark Bennie. 00;10;30;23 - 00;10;40;20 Sarah Richard. Bennie. Yes. So Richard shoots him several times, then I think moves the body, dips his own finger and sprouts blood and writes on the rock. 00;10;40;25 - 00;10;42;10 Mark I totally agree. 00;10;42;17 - 00;10;52;03 Sarah And it's definitely one of those cases where, you know, like when you were a kid and you start making a poster or something and you think you've got the letter space, but by the time you get to the end of the word, you're like, right in small. 00;10;52;06 - 00;10;52;23 Mark Yes. 00;10;52;24 - 00;10;55;05 Sarah Like Wickham was not going to fit on that rock. 00;10;55;05 - 00;10;57;27 Mark No. 00;10;57;29 - 00;11;01;04 Sarah Maybe he should've brought, like, a quill or something to dig for. 00;11;01;04 - 00;11;12;17 Mark Maybe like there's an outtake. There's a lot of outtakes in this episode where the killers running back and forth from, like, a pile of rocks trying to find a rock. 00;11;12;19 - 00;11;31;07 Sarah That wouldn't work wyg0 there's an h h a Now, it's not going to fit, dammit. Maybe he should have just written drawn a map of the street. Maybe, and put a little fingerprint of blood on where the fire happened. 00;11;31;08 - 00;11;31;25 Mark Never mind. 00;11;31;25 - 00;11;33;03 Sarah The arrow. 00;11;33;05 - 00;11;44;12 Mark Yeah. Never mind the fact that all of this is like there's some Scooby Doo. Miss Marple, this year, my no killer would do this. 00;11;44;12 - 00;11;49;16 Sarah Yeah, I was looking at the letters going. Could it be an m? Could be an m. 00;11;49;20 - 00;11;49;28 Mark To. 00;11;49;28 - 00;11;50;26 Both Be with you. 00;11;50;28 - 00;11;53;00 Sarah But why is upside down? Don't really make. 00;11;53;00 - 00;11;55;09 Both Anything. 00;11;55;11 - 00;12;04;11 Sarah But I was looking into it like they could have it wrong. It could be sideways, right? Yeah. I don't know where he supposedly got the blood. If he did it himself, it's clear he didn't do it himself. 00;12;04;15 - 00;12;25;05 Mark And this is up. I wouldn't be surprised if this was also an episode that they move back in the schedule because, like, Murdoch is like, well, George, it's like, this isn't like George knows this already. But then Julie appears and Slate. 00;12;25;07 - 00;12;30;21 Sarah She's like, Hi, I'm Julia. I'm really smart and I'm really funny, but you're never going to laugh at my jokes, huh? 00;12;30;23 - 00;12;36;07 Mark Julia In the first season Judd plays, she is the funniest character. 00;12;36;07 - 00;12;40;06 Sarah Her. Yeah, she's really funny. She just has to make light of things. 00;12;40;06 - 00;12;41;07 Mark And Murdoch just. 00;12;41;12 - 00;12;52;02 Sarah Even George is like, really joking. Really? Come on, dude. No. The Center for the Mind. The Institute for the Mind is founded by Groot, who's now dead. And Grayson. 00;12;52;04 - 00;12;54;01 Mark Yes, Grout and Grayson. 00;12;54;07 - 00;13;22;04 Sarah Grayson's first name is Barrett. Bert b u r r i t Yes. Which I had never heard of it before. No. And I went looking to see the origin of this name. Yes. Forget about it. Okay. Google doesn't accept it. It's burrito. It doesn't matter. It autocorrect did it over and over and over again. I put it in quotes and it said Brit in quotes plus oh, and gave me results for Burrito. 00;13;22;06 - 00;13;24;10 Sarah No matter what I did, it was Burrito. 00;13;24;10 - 00;13;28;21 Mark I am now calling him Doctor Burrito. 00;13;28;23 - 00;13;33;06 Sarah Oh, I know. First name. Origin Barrett. 00;13;33;09 - 00;13;34;16 Mark Nope. Doctor Burrito. 00;13;34;16 - 00;13;42;26 Sarah First name. Origin Burrito. No, just Burrito. Here you go. No origin of Burrito. No, no. 00;13;42;29 - 00;13;47;19 Mark Google now is a bad 70 Batman villain. I got a burrito. 00;13;47;19 - 00;14;05;10 Sarah I gave up. I like. I don't care what his name is. Never mind. There is a family in England whose surname is Barrett with two T's at the end, but the only thing that is B you are I t is a word that ends in. No, I gave up. No, not burrito. 00;14;05;10 - 00;14;11;05 Mark And if you see burrito commercials during our podcast, it's because the algorithm picked a burrito. 00;14;11;05 - 00;14;29;02 Sarah I just want to smack this man anyway because he's like, Well, women's brains are feeble and 90% smaller and their organs sapped their mental energy and like, okay, if anybody thinks with their organs, it's not women. Yeah, all right. Yeah, but anybody's brain is getting sapped by their organs. It's not women. 00;14;29;04 - 00;14;30;10 Mark What I'm glad is. 00;14;30;10 - 00;14;32;19 Sarah Now, but it's totally typical all the time. That's. 00;14;32;19 - 00;14;39;07 Mark It's totally typical of the time. But I would say season two on Murdoch is going to say something to him. 00;14;39;09 - 00;14;47;14 Sarah Yeah, they get less concerned with being non they get they're less worried about avoiding anachronisms in the way people think. 00;14;47;14 - 00;14;52;04 Mark And I think I think they want to show Murdoch as a progressive thinking individual. 00;14;52;04 - 00;15;04;08 Sarah Yes. So so he would have said actually there was a study that weighed a thousand brains. Yes. The women's brains were just as big. And speaking of women's brains, Miss Pencil is in. 00;15;04;08 - 00;15;12;11 Mark This is pencil. Do you think this was Well, Maria, we signed you up for two episodes, so we're going to put you in this one. 00;15;12;13 - 00;15;20;25 Sarah Maybe because she does fit. Yeah, but the character is problematic in this episode, and I'm just going to say it right now. 00;15;21;03 - 00;15;21;12 Mark Yeah. 00;15;21;13 - 00;15;31;12 Sarah And people can argue with me if they disagree. I'm all for it. In this episode, psychics are real, period. She knows stuff she couldn't know any other way. 00;15;31;15 - 00;15;33;25 Mark The seconds, you know, in this episode. 00;15;33;25 - 00;15;39;12 Sarah She doesn't solve the case without her psychic abilities. She provides evidence they can't get any other way. 00;15;39;13 - 00;15;50;10 Mark Yeah. And in her first episode, there was a little bit of saying good stuff. And the ghost of the belly her those three things, you never see anything like those again. 00;15;50;11 - 00;15;52;01 Sarah Well, in her first episode. 00;15;52;05 - 00;15;53;15 Mark Well, except for how it's. 00;15;53;15 - 00;16;11;10 Sarah Kind of explainable. Yeah, there are other ways she could know what she knows. If she was super resourceful. Yes. And. And kind and sneaky. Right. And she does have a sidekick who's doing research for her. Yeah. And gathering information. So we kind of think, okay, so that's how she did it. And so they kind of explain it away. 00;16;11;16 - 00;16;19;23 Sarah But in this episode, that doesn't happen. Now. She provides key pieces of evidence they could not solve the case without her, and there's no way she could know those things. 00;16;20;00 - 00;16;21;23 Mark No, and that's not what Murdoch. 00;16;21;23 - 00;16;28;21 Sarah Is, unless she's a much better detective than the entire police. Well, and doesn't want anybody to know. 00;16;28;21 - 00;16;30;20 Mark Better than George and Henry. 00;16;30;22 - 00;16;32;08 Sarah Well, they're special. 00;16;32;11 - 00;16;40;01 Mark There's mention of the Grim Reaper here. Do you know when the Grim Reaper happened or like, at when it became popular and where it came from? 00;16;40;02 - 00;16;49;03 Sarah Well, the cloaked figure, like a skeleton with a size, goes back to at least medieval ages. But I don't know what they called. I mean, just death. Well, I don't know. 00;16;49;04 - 00;17;16;20 Mark So death before this came in, a bunch of different forms. In Death in the Four Horsemen in the Bible is not described in fact, is the only one actually named the name of the Four Horsemen. That's all medieval, really. The idea of a cloaked skeletal figure with a side dealing with death comes out of European folklore and really is a meme that is created because of the Black Death. 00;17;16;23 - 00;17;17;15 Sarah That makes sense. 00;17;17;15 - 00;17;23;00 Mark Yeah. Like it's a shorthand for Black death in art at that point. 00;17;23;06 - 00;17;27;06 Sarah Well, he's not the Grim Reaper anyway. He's Hell's version of Robin Hood. 00;17;27;07 - 00;17;27;28 Both Yes. 00;17;28;01 - 00;17;32;08 Mark Not a Grim reaper. No. Skeletal. And he doesn't have the side. 00;17;32;09 - 00;17;37;29 Sarah Yeah. No, he's evil Robin Hood. I mean, he's trying to right wrongs. 00;17;38;01 - 00;17;38;15 Both Yeah. 00;17;38;21 - 00;17;48;09 Mark And they do it. They do a good job here because everything this pencil says is easily called Read it. Right. The murderer is angry. 00;17;48;11 - 00;17;49;09 Sarah Initially. 00;17;49;12 - 00;17;50;05 Mark Obscure. 00;17;50;06 - 00;18;06;14 Sarah The first time she visits Murdoch and says, you know, you're the you're one of the victims. Everything she says there could be called reading could be stuff she heard picked up from chitter chatter and of course, saying you're going to be one of the victims means that they're going to listen. So she wants to insinuate herself into the investigation. 00;18;06;14 - 00;18;12;24 Sarah That's the way to do it. But after that, she starts having visions and stuff that she learns, things that she can't know. 00;18;12;25 - 00;18;18;17 Mark And I'm going to say that back and read with no Mr. Hyde, but not Frankenstein. 00;18;18;18 - 00;18;19;01 Sarah Why? 00;18;19;04 - 00;18;27;02 Mark That book was not as popular as you think it was until the movie in the twenties. Hmm. Mostly because it was written by. 00;18;27;05 - 00;18;33;08 Sarah Oh, well, you know those ladies? Yeah. With their mental capacity sapped by their organs. 00;18;33;10 - 00;18;35;03 Mark We're actually just punching him. 00;18;35;06 - 00;18;38;10 Sarah He would be hysterical and like, women and. 00;18;38;10 - 00;18;54;06 Mark Like, he's totally, like, I realize I'm going to harp on this, but there should have been a thing where, like, Julia and Murdoch discuss that. Mm hmm. A perfect, flirty little opportunity. 00;18;54;09 - 00;18;59;10 Sarah For her to fill him in on. Actually, that's not true. And he could say, Well, that's just your uterus. 00;18;59;13 - 00;19;03;10 Mark Never thought of you like that. Or No, he could tell me. 00;19;03;10 - 00;19;05;11 Sarah And that's just your organs talking. 00;19;05;11 - 00;19;07;18 Both Julia Yeah. 00;19;07;21 - 00;19;15;05 Sarah Well, Dr. Burrito Grayson is wrong for other reasons, too, though He stands right in front of patients and talks about them like they can't hear him. 00;19;15;05 - 00;19;23;28 Mark Yes, he is from worst. Like his University of Toronto School of Medicine. Diploma is on the wall. Should be. 00;19;23;28 - 00;19;31;27 Sarah Removed. Yeah, they should take it back. Like, I don't even know why Miss Pringle is there. She plays the violin and is empathetic. 00;19;32;00 - 00;19;33;08 Mark She's empathetic? 00;19;33;15 - 00;19;38;14 Sarah Well, that makes her insane. I guess she can play a violin and she's sympathetic. 00;19;38;15 - 00;19;43;03 Mark Mr. Horton has extraordinary recall. So this is a nod to my. 00;19;43;09 - 00;19;45;05 Sarah Surveillance of testing. 00;19;45;06 - 00;19;45;17 Mark Autism. 00;19;45;20 - 00;19;59;23 Sarah Yeah, he has synesthesia. He can. He's memorized pi. He knows the weather The days of the week from long ago. Yes. That kind of. That's. And that's a trick, by the way. People who can tell you what day of the week something. Oh, yeah. They're just doing math in their head. 00;19;59;25 - 00;20;07;01 Mark July 7th, 1888. It was 80.9, six degrees Fahrenheit in Toronto. Just so. 00;20;07;01 - 00;20;10;29 Sarah You know. Good job, Horton, You were close percent fair. 00;20;11;01 - 00;20;13;19 Mark 27.2 fair Celsius. 00;20;13;19 - 00;20;22;12 Sarah Then there's been paralyzed by a stroke. But he has a bell. Yes. And he says again, right in front of him, it can get a bit tedious. Okay, you're a bit rude. 00;20;22;15 - 00;20;29;00 Mark Mostly it can get tedious because he's the killer. But but Mr. Tinker can see you. Three dimension. 00;20;29;00 - 00;20;30;01 Sarah Mr. Nesbitt. 00;20;30;07 - 00;20;31;24 Mark You know whose bike? The first. 00;20;31;24 - 00;20;33;01 Sarah Motorized wheelchair. 00;20;33;06 - 00;20;34;25 Mark Three dimensional. 00;20;34;27 - 00;20;39;20 Sarah So, no, he's like Leonardo da Vinci. We have. Maybe he can see around corners. 00;20;39;20 - 00;20;44;10 Mark Eyes face forward. Yeah, but we can see in three dimensions. 00;20;44;11 - 00;20;49;00 Sarah Oh, boy. And then Nurse Barrington. And that's kind of the cast. That's everybody. 00;20;49;04 - 00;20;54;16 Mark Yeah. And that scene is a real Agatha Christie. Here are the suspects. 00;20;54;16 - 00;21;01;19 Sarah Yes. All sitting in the same room doing separate things so we can stand over them and talk about them as if they can't hear us. 00;21;01;21 - 00;21;03;12 Mark Ding! 00;21;03;14 - 00;21;12;06 Sarah I love that Benny just runs into people with his wheelchair, like tries to take Murdock's legs out. 00;21;12;08 - 00;21;15;00 Both Ding, ding, ding, ding. 00;21;15;02 - 00;21;20;01 Mark Ma. Mom, I got a part. I'm a crap artist at the station. 00;21;20;02 - 00;21;21;21 Sarah Oh, yeah, the sketch artist. 00;21;21;21 - 00;21;22;21 Both Yeah. 00;21;22;23 - 00;21;24;26 Sarah This is a very angular grim reaper. 00;21;25;01 - 00;21;29;22 Mark Okay, I can draw a better Grim reaper than that, and I cannot draw. 00;21;29;26 - 00;21;46;07 Sarah Okay. I love you and everything, but no, you couldn't. You're that bad. I'm sorry if I gave you tracing paper. I don't know that you could trace it better than that. I've seen it. You make a good effort, honey. I do. But I don't know that it would turn out any better. 00;21;46;10 - 00;21;48;04 Both That. 00;21;48;06 - 00;21;58;14 Mark She has another vision. There's a hollow screech. Somebody saying no and Murdock getting shot? No. There's a woman behind him in the vision. It's her. 00;21;58;15 - 00;22;00;06 Both Yeah. 00;22;00;08 - 00;22;00;25 Sarah All right. 00;22;00;26 - 00;22;02;13 Mark She should maybe say that. 00;22;02;17 - 00;22;14;24 Sarah So let's unpack this a little bit. So we. We know that Benny is a killer and that he's not really paralyzed. Okay, So how long has he been at the institute pretending to be paralyzed? 00;22;14;24 - 00;22;20;11 Mark It is implied later on two years he's been working on this day. 00;22;20;13 - 00;22;21;28 Sarah That is some patience. 00;22;22;01 - 00;22;24;23 Mark Why does it not just kill him right away? 00;22;24;24 - 00;22;26;18 Sarah I don't know. 00;22;26;20 - 00;22;29;21 Mark Like, and why? Think about it. Kill the other doctor first. 00;22;29;21 - 00;22;43;15 Sarah Think about what he's been going through for two years. Yeah. All of his bodily functions taken care of by somebody else. Somebody else dressing him. Somebody else feeding him? Yeah, Probably through a tube to his stomach if he can't chew because he's paralyzed. 00;22;43;18 - 00;22;48;25 Mark Yeah. And Nesbitt may have figured it out. Yeah, because he spent 5 minutes with him. 00;22;48;25 - 00;22;52;22 Sarah Yeah. Just imagine if you were pretending to be paralyzed and you had an itch. 00;22;52;26 - 00;22;53;21 Mark Oh. 00;22;53;24 - 00;22;56;08 Both If I make you crazy. 00;22;56;10 - 00;23;00;20 Mark Did you like days when he was in his room? Yeah. 00;23;00;23 - 00;23;06;18 Sarah We hear strange movement. Norway. Yeah. It's Benny walking around because he can sat. 00;23;06;18 - 00;23;08;03 Mark In that chair all day. 00;23;08;03 - 00;23;10;17 Sarah A real detective would just look at the bottom of the shoes. 00;23;10;17 - 00;23;14;00 Mark Yes, that is what a real detective would do. 00;23;14;06 - 00;23;17;22 Sarah So all of the W files are missing from Grootes office. 00;23;17;22 - 00;23;21;00 Mark Why? Maybe this. Nobody with a dub here. 00;23;21;02 - 00;23;22;15 Both Yeah, that's true. 00;23;22;17 - 00;23;45;03 Sarah They couldn't find anybody working there with a W except the one guy who's long gone. So we have to assume, though, that Benny took them. Yeah. So Benny wants revenge for his girlfriend. Who? Greyson and Groot performed something like a lobotomy on. She lost her memory, forgot who he was, then died in a fire, and he wants to avenge her. 00;23;45;03 - 00;23;46;01 Sarah And though he did you. 00;23;46;01 - 00;23;47;28 Mark Think Dr. Burrito started the fire? 00;23;47;29 - 00;23;48;15 Sarah No. 00;23;48;16 - 00;23;55;06 Mark Okay. I don't believe I said that sentence. 00;23;55;08 - 00;24;03;26 Sarah But I think after two years of pretending to be paralyzed, Benny is sort of losing it a bit more than your average killer. 00;24;03;26 - 00;24;05;12 Mark I think he is lost it. 00;24;05;18 - 00;24;11;23 Sarah So he want. He doesn't just want vengeance. He wants it to be known. What happened? Yes. 00;24;11;25 - 00;24;16;21 Mark He wanted a typewriter in Benny's room. No, he's paralyzed. 00;24;16;23 - 00;24;33;07 Sarah He wants them to figure out why this is happening. I think. And that's why he paints DWI on the rock. That's why he steals all the W files. Yeah. Now, why would he take the W files when her last name is Chaucer? 00;24;33;09 - 00;24;34;00 Mark I do not. 00;24;34;00 - 00;24;36;06 Sarah Know his girlfriend's last name. Who's died? 00;24;36;06 - 00;24;38;19 Mark I still think no one. 00;24;38;22 - 00;24;42;17 Both Has a double. You name? 00;24;42;20 - 00;24;49;10 Sarah It's not. They've been stolen. They were just never any. There. There's all these Zs at the end. But there's no. 00;24;49;10 - 00;24;51;16 Mark W Mr. Higgins, we cannot. 00;24;51;17 - 00;24;57;20 Sarah Help you. No, sorry. We can't take any patients with the W. What is the paste on the band's stir. 00;24;57;23 - 00;24;59;17 Mark Okay. The paste on the banister. 00;24;59;21 - 00;25;02;24 Sarah Because this is a clue that Murdock and Crabtree find. 00;25;02;26 - 00;25;14;22 Mark His hair coloring that he puts on his hair to change his hair color. Because in the picture that he finds later in the newspaper, he has a different hairdo or darker now. 00;25;14;25 - 00;25;24;25 Sarah And the people who are taking care of him at the institute and his paralyzed body don't notice that he's putting goop in his hair to change the color. 00;25;24;28 - 00;25;30;15 Mark Again, there is some explanation that maybe did not make it into this episode. 00;25;30;15 - 00;25;34;05 Sarah And he's wearing a robe with a hood and you can't see his hair anyway. 00;25;34;05 - 00;25;35;03 Mark Yeah. 00;25;35;05 - 00;25;38;01 Sarah And how does his head touch the banister? 00;25;38;07 - 00;25;41;05 Mark No, it's his head because he touched his head. 00;25;41;07 - 00;25;49;21 Sarah So his hands are just covered in hair color. Goop does everywhere on cover bell. It would be everywhere if it was that easy to transfer. 00;25;49;21 - 00;25;51;25 Mark Oh, you got it on my crossbow. 00;25;51;25 - 00;25;57;29 Sarah And it's a paste. Yeah. You think it would just be like a tinted hair oil or something? 00;25;58;01 - 00;25;58;27 Mark Something? 00;25;59;00 - 00;26;01;28 Sarah Oh, imagine putting paste in your hair. 00;26;02;05 - 00;26;04;16 Mark Scream, pause. Boom. 00;26;04;18 - 00;26;06;11 Sarah 24. 00;26;06;13 - 00;26;13;26 Mark It's like that Horrible Dora with the blue. 00;26;13;28 - 00;26;28;01 Sarah Crossbow, hallway dye, crossbow, hallway dye. Oh, she's never seen Dora. Thank your lucky stars. Yeah. So Benny says that he sees the Reaper. Well, of course he does. 00;26;28;09 - 00;26;28;26 Mark Yeah. 00;26;28;28 - 00;26;31;29 Sarah I saw me in the hallway. It was me. I saw me. 00;26;32;01 - 00;26;39;05 Mark Dee Dee dee dee did, did, did. It's me. 00;26;39;08 - 00;26;44;28 Sarah So then pencil goes undercover? Yes. As herself? Yes. Which I guess she has to do. 00;26;45;00 - 00;26;55;28 Mark And this is like one of those great sitcom moments where Murdock lives up to her. Oh, and what is your name, young lady? And she goes, Miss Pencil. And then they're like, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. 00;26;56;01 - 00;26;56;25 Sarah Nobody will notice. 00;26;56;25 - 00;26;58;08 Mark And then he goes. 00;26;58;10 - 00;26;59;15 Sarah It was nice to. 00;26;59;15 - 00;27;07;00 Mark Meet you, Miss Pencil. Like everyone would be looking at them in the room going into obviously know each other. 00;27;07;00 - 00;27;15;12 Sarah And she says, If I see anything, I will be sure to give you a call. Detective Murdoch. 00;27;15;14 - 00;27;18;09 Mark I'm pretty small brain pants, So do you think. 00;27;18;09 - 00;27;20;25 Both We pull it off? I think it off. Okay. 00;27;20;28 - 00;27;23;04 Sarah Yeah. So they learn about Wickham. 00;27;23;09 - 00;27;26;13 Mark Oh, she uses the speakers at the beginning. 00;27;26;17 - 00;27;30;24 Sarah Yeah, like in Ghostbusters where she gets this, right? Because she's actually psychic. 00;27;30;24 - 00;27;41;10 Mark She's. Yeah, Those cards are based on like a 66. Yeah. Not, but she's not an 1860s experiment and she gets them all right. Now. 00;27;41;13 - 00;27;44;14 Sarah She's magic Mark. Okay? She brought them from the future. 00;27;44;15 - 00;27;48;22 Mark Sixth Sense. Where do you think that term was first used? 00;27;48;22 - 00;27;49;22 Sarah I don't know. 00;27;49;24 - 00;28;17;07 Mark First mention of Sixth Sense occurred in 1712. Mom in William Whitman's prime Primitive Christianity revived from Volume five, then said, Peter, that is false for there is a sixth sense of that of precedence for the other five senses that are capable of knowledge and the sixth for knowledge. Oh, which is a sense that prophets had. 00;28;17;14 - 00;28;27;02 Sarah I see dead people. Dead people. She sees dead people. Where does the word Wickham come from? Where? Where in the where in the episode was it revealed. Okay. 00;28;27;04 - 00;28;28;27 Mark It's Murdoch, it's a male. 00;28;29;01 - 00;28;29;12 Sarah Mm. 00;28;29;18 - 00;28;33;27 Mark Then the first question is like, does he always open his mouth with three. 00;28;34;00 - 00;28;35;04 Sarah When he's on a case, I. 00;28;35;04 - 00;28;35;20 Mark Guess. 00;28;35;20 - 00;28;36;26 Sarah Kind of sus. 00;28;36;29 - 00;28;38;01 Mark So then he says. 00;28;38;03 - 00;28;39;16 Sarah A return address. 00;28;39;19 - 00;28;47;01 Mark Then he says something which we'll get to and then I'm off on a completely different tangent. So where does Wickham come from? 00;28;47;04 - 00;28;51;10 Sarah It comes from that letter, right, that's been typed and mailed to him. Who sent it? 00;28;51;14 - 00;28;52;14 Mark Benny. 00;28;52;16 - 00;28;56;14 Sarah Then he must have sent it. Yes. So Benny is giving them clues. 00;28;56;16 - 00;29;07;07 Mark Where do you get a typewriter? How do you get it? In the post box. How did he like that? Is a process in which it's noticeable that you are not paralyzed. 00;29;07;09 - 00;29;14;01 Sarah If it was handwritten, yeah, I could see how he might have pulled it off. Right, Because he's sneaking around at night. 00;29;14;03 - 00;29;14;17 Mark Throw it and. 00;29;14;17 - 00;29;20;01 Sarah Write a letter, puts it in with the other post. But typewriters make way too much noise. 00;29;20;04 - 00;29;22;05 Mark They do in fact make lots of doing. 00;29;22;06 - 00;29;32;29 Sarah So unless there's like there's also a ghostly typewriter here. We hear it typing at night, you know, It couldn't be Benny. He's in bed and paralyzed. Yeah. Yeah. I have a hard time believing that. 00;29;33;01 - 00;29;37;25 Mark Yes. What I have a hard time believing is that Murdoch gets the point wrong. 00;29;37;28 - 00;29;39;22 Sarah The font point size. 00;29;39;24 - 00;29;44;04 Mark It would be 12.08 on the Remington of that time period. 00;29;44;05 - 00;29;51;10 Sarah Always. Yes. Might they not have had special ones for doctors that were smaller so they could type more perhaps. 00;29;51;13 - 00;29;56;23 Mark But Remington was well known for doing 12 characters per inch, which is 12 point. 00;29;56;23 - 00;29;59;14 Sarah Well, aren't you a typewriter nerd? Congratulations. 00;29;59;14 - 00;30;04;06 Mark Yes, I am. I also have about a half page of notes that I'm going to skip over. 00;30;04;08 - 00;30;09;28 Sarah No, I got something interesting about Wickham or Wickham. 00;30;09;28 - 00;30;10;24 Mark Wickham. What he. 00;30;10;24 - 00;30;24;08 Sarah Got. So I went looking for that name. And among other things, there are two medieval villages that are no longer there in England called Wickham Oak. It's one of those East Wickham. West Wickham things. Oh, okay. But here's what I didn't have. 00;30;24;08 - 00;30;26;15 Mark Time to go there. I think there might be one there. 00;30;26;18 - 00;30;27;03 Sarah I don't. 00;30;27;03 - 00;30;27;28 Mark Know. Okay. 00;30;28;03 - 00;30;30;29 Sarah I didn't have time to look that up. But what I did learn. 00;30;31;06 - 00;30;31;19 Mark Oak. 00;30;31;23 - 00;30;46;20 Sarah Is that there's a term for these villages that are long gone. Okay? They called them deserted medieval villages or DMV. DMV, and there's about 900 DMV's there alone. 00;30;46;21 - 00;30;55;09 Mark There is a theory that these some of these villages became deserted because of the Black Death. Yes. And that's been disproven. Now. 00;30;55;12 - 00;31;04;13 Sarah Yes. A lot of its in closure. Yeah. The Lord of the manor said, you know, I would rather go shooting there than have these peasants there. Yes. I'm going to run them all. 00;31;04;13 - 00;31;07;19 Mark Off as far more to do with economics and not. 00;31;07;19 - 00;31;29;07 Sarah Call their houses down. Yeah. Yeah. But I just think it's funny that they call them DMV because in the US, DMV is a department of Motor Vehicles and you go to the DMV to get a new license plate or get a license, driver's license or whatever. So the fact that there's 900 DMV is in the UK and when you get there would just be some lumps and bumps under some grass, you're not going to get any business done. 00;31;29;10 - 00;31;33;18 Sarah Nurse Barrington is not only a nurse, she's a sleight of hand artist, okay? 00;31;33;19 - 00;31;35;28 Mark She's a magician. Okay? 00;31;36;00 - 00;31;38;05 Sarah Magic is real in this episode. 00;31;38;07 - 00;31;38;21 Mark Okay? 00;31;38;28 - 00;31;41;26 Sarah She passed the spell on but the note in Murdock's pocket. 00;31;41;28 - 00;31;49;17 Mark So the idea is that she passes neurons. Neurons do duck. 00;31;49;20 - 00;31;51;03 Sarah Doctor, Burrito and Nurse. 00;31;51;03 - 00;32;08;07 Mark Doc, she passes Murdock a note. But and I watch this really closely. She never touches him. Benny comes between them. Okay? Runs over Murdock's spot. She chastises Benny and then leaves. 00;32;08;14 - 00;32;09;19 Sarah Because when she put it in his. 00;32;09;19 - 00;32;17;24 Mark Pocket and then Murdock takes his notebook out and the note clearly falls from his pocket. How does she get the note in his pocket? 00;32;17;29 - 00;32;20;13 Sarah Fishing line. 00;32;20;16 - 00;32;21;20 Mark Invisible thread. 00;32;21;20 - 00;32;22;12 Sarah Magic. 00;32;22;13 - 00;32;24;15 Both Logic. 00;32;24;17 - 00;32;27;07 Sarah And nurse magic. You wouldn't understand. 00;32;27;07 - 00;32;29;26 Mark And it ain't at Albert Park. 00;32;29;28 - 00;32;31;05 Sarah Where you'll find me dead. 00;32;31;10 - 00;32;33;07 Both Yes. 00;32;33;10 - 00;32;40;24 Mark Wow. There are a lot. This is like midsummer in the dead. Bodies are piling up here. Yeah, This is like, Okay, here we go. 00;32;40;25 - 00;32;51;28 Sarah Here we go. Another dead end. She has a letter on her that. Why wouldn't the killer have taken it? I guess he didn't know. I guess Benny didn't know she had it or he planted it. 00;32;52;04 - 00;32;53;19 Mark Benny in the bullets. 00;32;53;21 - 00;33;02;00 Sarah Because the letter is from Groot about burying Wickham? Yes. And I don't know. I'm torn on this one. Part of me thinks was. 00;33;02;00 - 00;33;04;13 Mark That in the Wickham File? Oh, no, wait. There wasn't. 00;33;04;13 - 00;33;13;02 Sarah A wick. Yeah, because they don't have files based on the street that somebody died on. That's not how you alphabetize patient files that were the weirdest way. 00;33;13;04 - 00;33;15;05 Both What's your address again? 00;33;15;08 - 00;33;28;11 Sarah Are you going to die there? Okay, that's what I'll file it under B, So impossible Phone books would be real weird. Okay, maybe Benny put it in her purse. 00;33;28;16 - 00;33;30;12 Mark But again, why does he want. 00;33;30;19 - 00;33;32;28 Sarah Like, he wants people to know what happened. 00;33;33;00 - 00;33;36;04 Mark Then why didn't he kill the guy who did it? 00;33;36;09 - 00;33;38;09 Sarah He hasn't gotten to him yet. 00;33;38;11 - 00;33;40;27 Mark I can kill Doctor Burrito yet. 00;33;41;04 - 00;33;51;19 Sarah I don't know why he has to kill the nurse at all. She's about to provide Murdock with important information about what Grayson and Grout did, and that's to his benefit. 00;33;51;26 - 00;34;00;15 Mark I think he's just gone crazy because he can actually walk around in the cloak. He's like, I'm going to kill everybody. 00;34;00;17 - 00;34;08;07 Sarah I don't know why he didn't just report them. Look, they lobotomized my girlfriend and then let her burned to death. 00;34;08;13 - 00;34;16;00 Mark Well, and Julius says that people talk about this guy like so already. There's stuff going on. 00;34;16;00 - 00;34;18;25 Sarah Bracken, read it. This is the best thing ever. 00;34;18;28 - 00;34;22;20 Mark Okay, First of all, if you're doing the science, you all that. 00;34;22;25 - 00;34;24;16 Sarah Is that like a legit requirement? 00;34;24;16 - 00;34;28;09 Mark Yes. How do you keep the connection if you don't hold it? 00;34;28;11 - 00;34;29;09 Sarah I didn't know that. 00;34;29;09 - 00;34;30;29 Mark Was a real Second of all. 00;34;31;00 - 00;34;37;03 Sarah You say that like it's scientific fact that it won't work. This thing that doesn't really work. 00;34;37;04 - 00;34;41;05 Mark Even Doctor Burrito Wicked Giant brain knows that. 00;34;41;08 - 00;34;47;24 Sarah Well, that's why, you know, Miss Pencil can't know it. Her name sounds like stationary, and she's a woman, so she's. 00;34;47;26 - 00;34;50;27 Mark At first I'm like, how do they get in? 00;34;51;00 - 00;34;52;09 Both Where are they? 00;34;52;11 - 00;34;54;04 Sarah They've got to be in her room and the. 00;34;54;07 - 00;34;58;06 Mark In their room at the institute. I think her covers go her below. 00;34;58;08 - 00;35;05;02 Sarah If the cops are sitting in her room, you're having a chance late at night. Maybe they snuck in that window that's open behind them. 00;35;05;07 - 00;35;10;10 Mark Well, let's turn up the gas lamp up and down, up and down. 00;35;10;12 - 00;35;15;12 Sarah But it's a wick and an oil lamp. Yeah, You can't do that unless you actually touch the knob, honey. 00;35;15;15 - 00;35;18;18 Mark I know. Can you smell that? 00;35;18;21 - 00;35;25;15 Sarah Bracken means like. Sorry, that was me. Margaret's for making beans again. It was me. 00;35;25;17 - 00;35;28;11 Mark How does she know this without having psychic powers? 00;35;28;13 - 00;35;42;05 Sarah I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know how she finds out that there was a fire in a building on Wickham that they. They then the police then find out that it's Sophia Chaucer who died there. 00;35;42;05 - 00;35;45;24 Mark What do you do in sleep? It was just murder, cream and green all the time. 00;35;46;00 - 00;35;48;21 Sarah I don't know. But the houses in that building or. 00;35;48;26 - 00;35;55;27 Mark Okay, there's. So this is a green thing, but that hallway, they use it 15 ways sideways. 00;35;55;27 - 00;35;56;15 Sarah Oh, yeah. 00;35;56;20 - 00;35;58;06 Mark It is the same hallway. 00;35;58;12 - 00;36;13;22 Sarah It is a building made up of one room and two hallways intersect each other. Yeah, that have gothic vaulted entries. All the doors have a point at the top. I don't know what this building is, but, man, they made use of that hallway. So then the reason was. 00;36;13;22 - 00;36;15;18 Mark Burned beyond recognition. 00;36;15;20 - 00;36;16;22 Sarah So how do they know it was her? 00;36;16;22 - 00;36;18;15 Mark I don't know. 00;36;18;17 - 00;36;25;19 Sarah She was the only crazy person locked in that building when we torched it. So it must have been her. Oh, she used it. I just give too much away. 00;36;25;23 - 00;36;30;19 Mark She used to go around today day with the cloak on shooting people with their bow and arrow going. 00;36;30;19 - 00;36;37;02 Sarah Who are you again? Who are you again? So, Murdoch and Miss Pencil run into the Reaper. 00;36;37;09 - 00;36;39;21 Both Yes, Like, just look at his shoes. 00;36;39;23 - 00;36;47;03 Sarah It's Bennie. Those are Bennie Shoes. Benny's white cuffs. He's got a callus from his belt. Yeah, it's him. 00;36;47;06 - 00;36;49;13 Mark Yeah, like, totally. 00;36;49;15 - 00;36;52;21 Sarah Where does he keep the bolts? Does he have a pocket in his room. 00;36;52;23 - 00;36;58;12 Mark For Benny's ballpark? No, in the bag, Betty Bolt. 00;36;58;14 - 00;37;01;23 Sarah But he doesn't have a bag. Oh. 00;37;01;25 - 00;37;06;10 Mark He. The music here gets into the bum, bum bum bum bum, bum. 00;37;06;10 - 00;37;30;04 Sarah Bum, bum. Oh, yeah. Because he's about to be shot. Yeah. And Murdock just charges around like after pencil says you're going to be shot. He should be wearing, like, armor. Something under his vest, like medieval armor or something. The first time I saw this episode and he got shot, I thought, But he's not going to die, so he must have, like, a vest on something. 00;37;30;06 - 00;37;31;26 Mark You know, like. And that's a great. 00;37;31;28 - 00;37;36;15 Sarah I have a copy of Darwin tucked in my pocket and kids spotted the book. 00;37;36;17 - 00;37;39;25 Mark It's a great Murdoch invention thing. 00;37;39;29 - 00;37;51;15 Sarah Oh yeah. That he could have had something like that protected. Yeah. To show that he actually took the psychic seriously. Yeah. Or he wouldn't have been wearing it. Yeah, they missed. They missed an opportunity there. 00;37;51;16 - 00;38;00;03 Mark So he finds a feather in Grayson's office, and then there's this implication that they find the reaper outfit, too. 00;38;00;05 - 00;38;01;04 Sarah We never see that. 00;38;01;04 - 00;38;05;03 Mark Yeah, that got dropped from the cutting room. 00;38;05;08 - 00;38;15;21 Sarah So Beeny plants part of a bolt and the hood. Yeah. The cloak in Grayson's office clearly wants Grayson to get in trouble rather than killing him. 00;38;15;21 - 00;38;18;09 Mark You got nothing on me, Coppers. 00;38;18;11 - 00;38;22;16 Sarah He is utterly reprehensible. Grayson is just horrible. 00;38;22;16 - 00;38;25;18 Mark Oh, surgeries. The risk. Especially when I poker I. 00;38;25;18 - 00;38;36;22 Sarah Yeah. Yeah. Like, well, not to me. It's not a risk to me, It's a risk to the person that I'm operating on in the basement of a lodge. What the hell goes on the lodge, anyway? 00;38;36;22 - 00;38;37;04 Mark I don't. 00;38;37;04 - 00;38;39;29 Sarah Know. Is this like a masonic lodge that he rents. 00;38;40;06 - 00;38;43;22 Mark Base of its time? So what? 00;38;43;25 - 00;39;02;15 Sarah Yeah. You removed a woman's mind from her years ahead of your time. Okay. We find out that Sophia, Chaucer's parents are dead. Your mom died in childbirth, and her dad died of complications from Kenzi. Yeah, Which is the most disgusting tonsillitis you can get. 00;39;02;15 - 00;39;10;12 Mark Oh, my gosh. It is an abscess that forms between one of your tonsils in the wall of your throat. 00;39;10;12 - 00;39;21;16 Sarah I thought you were going to say toenail your toenail and your tongue falls somewhere in there. That's a lot of room there. That's a big obsessive. It takes all that space. 00;39;21;18 - 00;39;25;16 Mark Commonly affects teenagers and young adults. Well. 00;39;25;18 - 00;39;35;02 Sarah And if it busts, you can aspirate and drown on your own pus. Yes. Oh, some. What a way to die of the worst sore throat in existence. 00;39;35;02 - 00;39;37;04 Mark By the way, Jason also was an archer. 00;39;37;04 - 00;39;40;23 Sarah Chaucer? Yes, Chaucer. Yeah, but she. She shot a real bow. 00;39;40;29 - 00;39;46;20 Mark Yes. The blackboard that is in Murdoch's room is now working on how to estimate time of death. 00;39;46;20 - 00;39;54;09 Sarah Yeah, it's ancient temperature and rigor mortis. I don't know why they let a woman have a bow. I mean, we're too stupid. 00;39;54;14 - 00;39;58;15 Mark It says in the article that she was a world champion. 00;39;58;22 - 00;39;59;11 Sarah Yeah. 00;39;59;13 - 00;40;05;03 Mark Like her name should be the Archer, comma Sophia Chaucer. 00;40;05;03 - 00;40;10;18 Sarah Yeah, And nobody missed her when she missing after having her lobotomy or whatever. 00;40;10;18 - 00;40;12;08 Mark World champion. 00;40;12;08 - 00;40;26;04 Sarah Yeah, She was special. And Benny's kind of Avenger. Yeah, And he shoots Murdock. But then Miss Pringle, she of the chip fortune bashes him on the head. That's for my non monocle wearing dad with a mustache. 00;40;26;06 - 00;40;31;13 Mark Well, no he takes the crossbow out from under his bed. 00;40;31;19 - 00;40;32;06 Sarah Mm. 00;40;32;08 - 00;40;34;16 Mark Would they have not a search that. 00;40;34;18 - 00;40;38;14 Sarah No, they're not going to search the paralyzed guy's room. What could he have? 00;40;38;15 - 00;40;39;06 Mark Okay, but. 00;40;39;13 - 00;40;40;09 Sarah Come on, Mark. 00;40;40;09 - 00;40;42;09 Mark That's not how search works. 00;40;42;09 - 00;40;44;22 Sarah It's how Henry and George do it. 00;40;44;25 - 00;40;51;12 Mark There's kind of a when he's running, he kind of skids. Do it. There's kind of a moment. 00;40;51;13 - 00;41;02;14 Sarah Yeah, he's. He's athletic. For a guy who doesn't move 23 hours a day. Yeah, he's pretty agile. And he does that magic hair putty. He was good for you. 00;41;02;16 - 00;41;05;06 Mark And Murdoch gets shot. 00;41;05;08 - 00;41;06;14 Sarah But he survives. 00;41;06;18 - 00;41;08;20 Mark Well, the show is named after him, so. 00;41;08;20 - 00;41;10;07 Sarah It kind of sucks if he dies. 00;41;10;10 - 00;41;13;04 Mark Don't think he's going to die. 00;41;13;07 - 00;41;18;09 Sarah He's got to use a cane. It's pretty amazing that he gets shot and it misses of his important organs. 00;41;18;09 - 00;41;23;04 Mark Yeah. Okay. So first of all, obviously, Miss Pencil has invited him out to talk. 00;41;23;06 - 00;41;24;00 Both Mhm. 00;41;24;03 - 00;41;32;19 Mark Why did she choose to invite him out to like a park far away from everything. 00;41;32;22 - 00;41;54;27 Sarah Let's meet on this promontory that you can only walk up a hill to get to and no vehicles can get there. That's a perfect place to meet that cover from your being shot with a crossbow. And she worried about her hat flying away or what? So it's like a it's like a a derby, but it's like tied to her head so tight. 00;41;55;00 - 00;41;56;09 Mark It's a weird. 00;41;56;12 - 00;41;59;12 Sarah I like that hat is about to take. 00;41;59;12 - 00;42;00;27 Both Off or something. 00;42;01;03 - 00;42;20;08 Mark So then and this is what comes to my end comments for the whole episode is this is an episode written by a writer who's new to writing television. MM Because she says the thing that I hate, which is it's a gift and a curse like that is a cliche. 00;42;20;08 - 00;42;21;05 Sarah Yeah. 00;42;21;07 - 00;42;38;14 Mark And then she does. In the next sentence she explains it's a gift and the curse. And they could have easily cut that line about the gift and the curse. Yeah, it's a great example of show. Don't tell. Yeah, she shows in the second sentence but tells in the first sentence. 00;42;38;16 - 00;43;00;05 Sarah But the same writer does an awesome thing with Julia here. Yes. And 99.9% of shows Julia would have walked behind Miss Pencil and Murdoch talking and went, Huh. I guess he's into her and walked off in a snoot. And then not talked to him for three episodes. Yeah, but Julia doesn't do that. She walks right over and says hello. 00;43;00;07 - 00;43;07;17 Mark And sits down and they have a murdoch sandwich. 00;43;07;19 - 00;43;10;27 Sarah Julius wearing a boater, and she doesn't tie hers down? 00;43;10;27 - 00;43;14;14 Mark No, she doesn't. She couldn't stand the wind of the boat. 00;43;14;14 - 00;43;17;10 Sarah She is confident. Yes, security of her hat. 00;43;17;10 - 00;43;20;11 Mark But Julia clearly hates her way. 00;43;20;13 - 00;43;24;19 Sarah Well, yeah, She's like, yeah, goodbye. I go to Prague. It's great there. Don't come back. 00;43;24;22 - 00;43;42;01 Mark Anyway, she she's nice. But then Murdoch does the absolute right thing which is turns around and says tell me everything about him. And she says he has a journal. She has a journal. And he says, I'd love to read. 00;43;42;01 - 00;43;45;19 Sarah It, which is like, Let me go see your underwear drawer. 00;43;45;21 - 00;43;49;21 Mark Which I think she implies. Like, she's like, Oh, yeah. 00;43;49;24 - 00;43;51;19 Sarah Really? Maybe. 00;43;51;21 - 00;43;54;26 Mark Maybe exit. That is a perfect ending. 00;43;55;00 - 00;43;58;19 Sarah And okay, so Murdoch is not into Miss Pencil. 00;43;58;20 - 00;43;59;03 Mark No. 00;43;59;09 - 00;44;00;05 Sarah Assignments, pens. 00;44;00;05 - 00;44;01;22 Mark I thought I thought. 00;44;01;22 - 00;44;02;26 Sarah She and him. 00;44;02;26 - 00;44;07;00 Mark I thought there was a whole bunch more. Murdoch Miss Pencil. 00;44;07;03 - 00;44;15;15 Sarah Well, she comes back. She does I she's psychic, so she knows the future and she knows that Murdoch and Julia belong together. 00;44;15;17 - 00;44;16;07 Mark Yeah. 00;44;16;09 - 00;44;20;12 Sarah So I think she knows better than to interfere, but I think she does. 00;44;20;15 - 00;44;28;15 Mark Like, I appreciate him. We said that we weren't going to do spoilers, but. Okay. A blind, stupid person named Doctor Burrito. 00;44;28;15 - 00;44;38;25 Sarah We know that Murdoch and Julia eventually will have a relationship. Yes. Yes, they will. And I think Miss Pencil being a psychic knows that she has no place in that. 00;44;38;26 - 00;44;41;07 Mark Yes, I agree with all of that. 00;44;41;07 - 00;44;47;04 Sarah So she's going to go to Prague with her strapped down hat. Maybe she has that hat on because she's going on a boat. 00;44;47;04 - 00;44;48;02 Mark Maybe. 00;44;48;02 - 00;44;50;22 Sarah Like an open air boat or something. 00;44;50;23 - 00;44;54;13 Mark How long would it get take to get to Prague? 00;44;54;15 - 00;44;59;27 Sarah Not that long. And most of it would be interior rivers, I would think. Wouldn't that? And you're. 00;44;59;27 - 00;45;02;29 Mark Wrong. She is in two episodes that. 00;45;03;01 - 00;45;03;18 Sarah Really. 00;45;03;18 - 00;45;04;14 Mark We never seen. 00;45;04;14 - 00;45;05;21 Sarah I thought she was in more episodes. 00;45;05;21 - 00;45;12;10 Mark I thought she was in more episodes and I thought there was far more flirtation going on with Michelle. 00;45;12;10 - 00;45;16;11 Sarah I didn't think there was that, but I thought there was at least one more with her in it. I'm imagining. 00;45;16;11 - 00;45;16;18 Both That. 00;45;16;18 - 00;45;17;28 Mark Yeah, So. So did. 00;45;17;28 - 00;45;24;12 Sarah I. So we're left with these questions. Are psychics real? And Murdoch So in this episode, Yes. 00;45;24;14 - 00;45;29;13 Mark So this is my theory. Every show is a Bible, okay? It describes all the characters. 00;45;29;13 - 00;45;30;24 Sarah The rules of the world, the. 00;45;30;24 - 00;45;31;20 Mark Rules of the world. 00;45;31;20 - 00;45;32;01 Sarah Yes. 00;45;32;08 - 00;45;42;16 Mark And I think everyone assumed that that supernatural stuff was off the table. And this writer wrote this episode and they were like, we need to put that thing in the Bible. 00;45;42;24 - 00;45;43;21 Both Yeah. 00;45;43;23 - 00;45;50;16 Sarah I think there were probably logical explanations for how she would have known things, but they got cut. Yes, that's what I. 00;45;50;17 - 00;45;51;21 Mark I also think that. 00;45;51;26 - 00;45;55;29 Sarah Poussin's the letter we're seeing Venetians letter sent the letter. Okay. 00;45;56;01 - 00;45;59;19 Mark Did the whole Dora episode with Benny. 00;45;59;22 - 00;46;02;10 Sarah Did Benny write the letters on the Rock? 00;46;02;15 - 00;46;03;29 Mark I'm assuming Benny wrote them. 00;46;03;29 - 00;46;12;25 Sarah I think he had to have had to. Of How long was Benny an institution? We think two years. Yeah. Why did he wait so long to strike? 00;46;12;25 - 00;46;19;22 Mark Well, I think he had to really investigate Dr. Burrito. 00;46;19;24 - 00;46;21;21 Sarah I think he was a coward. 00;46;21;24 - 00;46;24;23 Mark Oh, but he's certainly crazy now. 00;46;24;26 - 00;46;38;14 Sarah And I think he was afraid to take action. And I think Mr. Season three D Mr. Nesbitt was working on his wheelchair and figured out he could move and he so he had to do something and he's like, okay, now's the time. 00;46;38;22 - 00;46;39;13 Mark I think I'm. 00;46;39;13 - 00;46;41;29 Sarah Not going to be able to pull this off much longer. 00;46;42;01 - 00;46;53;17 Mark We didn't talk about it, but also when Miss Pencil finally figures out that it's him and he's revealed as someone who can talk and move, it is the most expected reveal ever. 00;46;53;17 - 00;46;54;13 Sarah Oh yeah. 00;46;54;15 - 00;46;57;07 Mark Yeah. It's again, it goes back to. 00;46;57;07 - 00;46;57;22 Sarah You're not like. 00;46;57;22 - 00;46;58;28 Mark Christie. Whoa. 00;46;58;29 - 00;46;59;21 Sarah Really? He can. 00;46;59;21 - 00;47;00;06 Both Move. 00;47;00;07 - 00;47;03;26 Mark It's a character in a wheelchair. Yeah. 00;47;03;29 - 00;47;10;08 Sarah I bet she can walk. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Best corpse grout, Nesbitt or Barrington. 00;47;10;11 - 00;47;14;20 Mark I kind of like Barrington on the park bench, Dad. Yeah, Yeah. 00;47;14;26 - 00;47;18;13 Sarah I'm going to go grout. Okay. Just because he has to run with arrows in his. 00;47;18;13 - 00;47;21;29 Mark Back and they can't bounce. Yeah, he can't be like. 00;47;22;02 - 00;47;30;23 Sarah Remember, these are just duct taped to my jacket arrows, and he has to, like, he screams and begs, and then he gets shot again and has to go face down. 00;47;30;25 - 00;47;31;23 Mark Yeah. 00;47;31;25 - 00;47;32;22 Sarah After the credits. 00;47;32;25 - 00;47;36;26 Mark Mr. Pencil goes to Prague and is never heard of again. 00;47;36;29 - 00;47;37;25 Sarah What about her hat? 00;47;37;26 - 00;47;38;29 Mark Mark? My name. 00;47;39;00 - 00;47;41;21 Sarah Is Grayson. Going to keep the institute? 00;47;41;23 - 00;47;57;08 Mark I hope so. In that he can turn into an actual scientist and learn some things in the future. Now that the mental institute is kind replaced in season two with another mental institute run by a much cooler cat. 00;47;57;10 - 00;47;59;27 Sarah So I think Ms.. Pringle's going to leave. 00;47;59;27 - 00;48;01;02 Mark I think so because. 00;48;01;02 - 00;48;05;15 Sarah She doesn't need to be there. No, and I don't know about Horton. He's probably going to stay. 00;48;05;16 - 00;48;06;06 Both Yeah. 00;48;06;08 - 00;48;14;06 Sarah Knowing high society at this point, Grayson is just going to brush this off and say, Oh, Benny was just way farther sick than we knew. 00;48;14;07 - 00;48;25;06 Mark Knowing what I do, particularly about 19th century asylums, don't even get me started then. I know this is not an asylum, but they are treated so fantastically well. 00;48;25;06 - 00;48;28;19 Sarah It's because they're rich. Yeah, and they're voluntary. 00;48;28;23 - 00;48;30;07 Mark It's rich and voluntary. 00;48;30;07 - 00;48;36;20 Sarah Yeah, right. I mean, misspent just walks in and goes, Can I stay here? Oh, they're like, Well, you've got money. So. Yeah, yeah. 00;48;36;21 - 00;48;37;19 Mark Rich white. 00;48;37;19 - 00;48;39;28 Sarah And you have a nice hat so you can stay. 00;48;39;28 - 00;48;41;28 Mark Yeah. And their white, feathery hat. 00;48;41;29 - 00;48;44;11 Sarah Yeah. You want to hold séances in your room? That's cool. 00;48;44;11 - 00;48;48;05 Mark It's okay. So since Brackenridge doesn't fart. 00;48;48;08 - 00;48;51;28 Sarah Smells like smoke, I have a horrible movie for you. 00;48;51;29 - 00;48;54;28 Mark Okay, Hit us up with the horrible movie. 00;48;55;00 - 00;49;05;05 Sarah I am so confident that you have not seen this movie. Okay. I am, like, supremely confident even it's from 2020. Oh, yeah. It is. 00;49;05;05 - 00;49;06;03 Mark Endemic movie. 00;49;06;03 - 00;49;09;19 Sarah It is recent. Yeah. And I'm going to say you didn't see it. 00;49;09;21 - 00;49;10;19 Mark Okay. 00;49;10;21 - 00;49;14;08 Sarah So Stephen Bogart, who plays Benny the Killer, is in this movie. 00;49;14;10 - 00;49;14;21 Mark In this. 00;49;14;21 - 00;49;17;26 Sarah Movie. Okay. Are you ready for this? For the description of the movie? 00;49;17;26 - 00;49;23;14 Mark Okay, Hit me. I have not looked unnamed. Be at him or anything like that. 00;49;23;14 - 00;49;28;16 Sarah Okay. When I possessed pair of jeans begins to kill the staff. What's trending? 00;49;28;19 - 00;49;30;02 Mark Whoa. 00;49;30;04 - 00;49;33;14 Sarah Yeah, you heard me. A possessed pair of jeans. 00;49;33;17 - 00;49;36;02 Mark Like blue jeans? Yes. Okay. 00;49;36;04 - 00;49;41;00 Sarah Wait till you see the stills from this movie. It's amazing when a possessed. 00;49;41;01 - 00;49;46;08 Mark The sisterhood of the murder. 00;49;46;10 - 00;50;06;08 Sarah Yes, it is. How a pair of jeans draws blood. I don't know. It can only strangle people. I mean, that's all I can do best. Maybe when a possessed pair of jeans begins to kill the staff of a trendy clothing store, it's up to Libby, an idealistic young sales clerk, to stop its bloody rampage. 00;50;06;08 - 00;50;08;28 Mark How does it be best? How is it bloody? 00;50;08;28 - 00;50;11;20 Sarah I don't know. Oh. 00;50;11;22 - 00;50;14;04 Mark Who possesses a pair of pants? I don't. 00;50;14;04 - 00;50;14;17 Sarah Know. 00;50;14;17 - 00;50;15;14 Mark Demon, if. 00;50;15;21 - 00;50;17;05 Sarah I'm guessing you haven't seen it. 00;50;17;11 - 00;50;18;00 Mark No. 00;50;18;00 - 00;50;19;10 Sarah See, you don't know what it's called. 00;50;19;11 - 00;50;21;27 Mark No. Sisterhood of the murdering. 00;50;22;00 - 00;50;29;04 Sarah Do you give up. Yeah. It's Called slacks, SLA, ex, ex wife. Oh, yeah. 00;50;29;06 - 00;50;32;07 Mark Oh, I got to look this movie up, man. 00;50;32;14 - 00;50;55;12 Sarah The stills of the jeans flying through the air. People are just fantastic. And somehow some guy gets absolutely covered in blood. I don't know if, like, can the jeans we all do weapons or something? I don't know. Wow. Yeah. And the pandemic doesn't explain it because it would have been filmed before, you know? So it wasn't like somebody in a fever dream made this movie. 00;50;55;15 - 00;50;58;00 Sarah Oh, slacks. So a x. 00;50;58;02 - 00;51;06;03 Mark Oh, I'm putting this movie poster on in the show notes, too, because it is also a fantastic movie poster. 00;51;06;05 - 00;51;08;00 Sarah There's a point for me that. 00;51;08;00 - 00;51;08;28 Mark Is the point three, because. 00;51;08;28 - 00;51;11;11 Sarah That is a horrible movie that you have not seen. 00;51;11;11 - 00;51;12;13 Mark I've not seen. 00;51;12;17 - 00;51;13;23 Sarah You have not seen. 00;51;13;25 - 00;51;15;05 Both Stacks. 00;51;15;07 - 00;51;19;29 Sarah You have to pronounce to access. It looks kind of like a Gap store to. 00;51;20;05 - 00;51;22;01 Mark Yeah, it kind of does. 00;51;22;08 - 00;51;25;29 Sarah All right. What's next week? So episode 12. 00;51;26;00 - 00;51;37;26 Mark Next week, Episode 12 The Prince and the Rebel. It's not a bonkers episode like this episode is a bonkers episode, but it is bonkers. It's really a George episode. 00;51;37;28 - 00;51;46;07 Sarah Oh, I just figured out something amazing. Why it wasn't Benny or Ben. He's not the killer, Ben. He's wearing possessed pants. 00;51;46;09 - 00;51;48;02 Mark That's what makes him look that. 00;51;48;02 - 00;51;50;25 Sarah Get him up out of the chair and make him kill. 00;51;50;27 - 00;51;51;23 Mark There we go. 00;51;51;23 - 00;51;52;22 Sarah I figured it out. 00;51;52;22 - 00;51;53;23 Mark Yes. Yes, you did. 00;51;53;23 - 00;51;54;13 Sarah Solution. 00;51;54;16 - 00;52;08;18 Mark So the the prince in the Rebel is all about Irish independence and the royalty. But really, it's an excuse for the Prince of Wales to come to Toronto and party. 00;52;08;20 - 00;52;11;01 Sarah And for Crabtree to have to keep track. 00;52;11;04 - 00;52;11;24 Mark Keep track. 00;52;12;01 - 00;52;12;27 Sarah Keep him out of trouble. 00;52;12;27 - 00;52;25;19 Mark So. So then after that June 5th, we will be releasing episode 13, which is the final episode of Season one Be Annoying Red Planet, which is one of our favorite episodes. 00;52;25;20 - 00;52;26;20 Sarah So good. 00;52;26;22 - 00;52;33;13 Mark Now we have some also amazing stuff coming down the pipe.
