The Drop with Danno on GFN 광주영어방송

We mark the day Tone Loc's debut album went to #1 on this date in 1989, and discussed what's been up with Anthony Smith since breaking through. After that, lots of remastered & new soul/funk/boogie out this week, to be followed by our AMPED rock feature in hour 2 with Dan Lloyd.

Show Notes

As broadcast April 15, 2021.  On this date in 1989, Tone Loc's debut record went to #1 on the Billboard Charts on the back of two big hit singles in "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina."  Admittedly, pretty wack tunes that have not aged well to say the very least on the subject.  However, we rocked the title track to the album which is more true to the artist himself anyway.  For the rest of our Sampled funk & soul first half, we had newly remastered tunes from Fela Kuti and an old J-Dilla remix along with new tunes from El Michels Affair, Black Market Brass, Jordan Rakei & many others.  For our 2nd hour, Dan Lloyd right as rain is in the house to go over some big albums out tomorrow and singles from Mick Jagger, The Armed, Massive Wagons, and much much more for our weekly AMPED feature.
