राज्ञी मालादेवी

दक्षिणभारतस्य बळ्ळारिसंस्थानं शिवराजसैन्यं स्वाधीनम् यदा अकरोत् तदा बळ्ळारिसंस्थानस्य राज्ञी मालादेवी शिवराजस्य पुरतः उपस्थापिता सती पराधीनजीवनं निराकृत्य मरणदण्डनं याचितवती । तदा शिवराजः तस्यां मातृत्वं दृष्वा अज्ञानात् यत् आक्रमणं कृतं तदर्थं‌ क्षमाम् अयाचत । बळ्ळारिसंस्थानं च स्वतन्त्रम् अकरोत् च । शिवराजस्य औदार्यस्य विनयस्य च दर्शनात्  मालादेव्याः हृदयं भावनिर्भरं जातम् ।

Once, Shivaji’s army attacked Ballari and defeated them. When Queen Maladevi of Ballari was brought before Shivaji, she refused to live under someone else's control and pleaded for a death sentence. Seeing her as a mother, Shivaji, realizing that the attack had been due to ignorance, sought forgiveness. He also granted independence to the Ballari region. Witnessing Shivaji's generosity and humility, Maladevi’s heart was filled with deep emotion.
