Real Clinicians Real Chats

Listen to Alex and Kit challenge and expand the concept of the therapeutic relationship and how it impacts our care!

Show Notes

In this episode Alex and Kit discuss the concept of the therapeutic relationship.

Challenging and expanding on common definitions and understanding they discuss:
- How the dominant approach in healthcare has led to the dehumanisation of practitioners and patients, removing what can make care so much more powerful - connecting with another human!
- A relationship built on social connection, listening, validation and shared values can be healing for people within itself
- That the relationship doesn't just come from what is said, it is an embodied in non-communicative aspects
- The need for greater self awareness of how we could be impacting the relationship outside our communication and how this isn't a common thing explored in clinical practice
- Being yourself and letting your personality shine through can make your practice more enjoyable and fruitful for you and your patients
