Maya: Hey builders! Here's what's on the radar today on Claude Code Review. Claude Code added a desktop launch command and provider limits, tool search cut tokens but dies behind a proxy, nested skills miss cat, OpenAI's Codex plugin, and the AGENTS.md fallback. I'm Maya. James: And I'm James. Let's get into it. Maya: Version two point one two eight five of Claude Code added claude dash dash desktop, a terminal command that opens the Claude desktop app on your current directory. Add dash dash continue or dash dash resume with an ID and it opens on that session instead. James: That's handy, Maya. For teams, the same release added an allowedProviders managed setting, a policy an admin sets for everyone. It limits which API providers a machine may use, covering the Anthropic API, Bedrock, Vertex AI, Foundry and a few more. Maya: Exactly right, James. And they softened the failure mode. When an admin removes access to the default model, Bedrock and Vertex sessions now switch to an older available model of the same tier instead of failing outright. James: Here's a measurement worth your time, Maya. Tool search loads tool definitions only when the model asks. On a sixty five tool setup, it cut the first request from twenty seven thousand tokens to nine thousand seven hundred. That's a sixty four percent drop. Maya: That's a real saving, James. Behind the scenes, Claude Code sends a short list of tool names plus a ToolSearch tool. When the model needs one, it calls ToolSearch, and the next request carries a reference the API expands into the full definition. James: And over a whole task the saving was forty six percent, smaller because lazy loading needs an extra round trip. The catch: setting ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL to a non-Anthropic address turns tool search off by default. The proxied run sent all ninety one tools. Maya: So if you route through a proxy, James, the binary's own log says to set ENABLE_TOOL_SEARCH to true, provided the proxy forwards tool reference blocks. You can put it in the environment or in settings dot json. James: This next one is subtle, Maya. A skill is a saved set of instructions Claude Code loads when relevant. In a twenty run test, a skill in a package's own folder stayed unlisted when cat opened a file there through Bash. Maya: And the built-in Read tool behaved differently, right? It loaded that skill in six of six runs. The cat command through Bash loaded it in zero of two. Before any read, the Skill tool answered Unknown skill in ten of ten calls. James: Exactly, Maya, and this bites scripted runs most. Jobs run with claude dash p explore a package mainly through Bash, so they can finish without ever loading its skills, and nothing in the output tells you it happened. Maya: Two launch-time routes worked, though. Passing the package with dash dash add dash dir from the repository root put the skill in the first request at sixty tokens, the same as a root skill. That's the clean fix. James: Now this one is a crossover, Maya. OpenAI published codex dash plugin dash cc, a plugin that runs Codex inside Claude Code. Once installed, you stay in the same conversation and type slash commands to trigger a specific action. Maya: Three commands do the work, James. Slash codex colon review checks what Claude just did. The adversarial version hunts for weaknesses. And slash codex colon rescue hands Codex a task outright, so Claude writes the plan and Codex writes the code. James: The appeal is independence, a reviewer from a different company. Setup needs a ChatGPT subscription from Plus up or an API key, Node point eighteen or newer, and the Codex CLI signed in. Every request draws down your Codex usage limit. Maya: That cost is why the walkthrough says don't put Codex on every step, James. Save it for work you're about to ship. And reviews need the project in git, though you can ask Claude to set that up. James: Last one, Maya, and it pairs nicely. A walkthrough says Claude Code falls back to AGENTS.md when a project has no CLAUDE.md, on versions above two point one two seven seven. So one instruction file can serve Claude Code and Codex. Maya: That kills the duplicate, James. To switch: check your version, put shared rules in AGENTS.md, delete CLAUDE.md, start a fresh session. The catch is CLAUDE.md wins if both exist, so delete it or change one setting in slash config to load both. Maya: That's your Claude Code Review daily brief.
