dragon quest [00:40:16] like anniversary live stream and it aired here at like one in the morning and i stayed up and watched [00:40:22] it oh man and i was just finishing my playthrough of dragon quest 2 at that point and i was going to go [00:40:28] right into three but then they announced that remake and i'm like well i guess i'm gonna wait [00:40:32] and then it was like a year or two later i'm like yeah let me mess around with the original three [00:40:35] a little bit and i didn't get super far in it but i just beat um dragon quest 1 for the first time [00:40:42] the super nintendo version of dragon quest 1 and honestly they kind of like opened my brain up to [00:40:51] realizing i like a good short rpg yeah like chrono trigger is a good short rpg yep that one [00:40:58] was really good it wasn't like it was kind of strange to get used to like if you die you end [00:41:03] up back at the castle at the very beginning like that was kind of because well because that came [00:41:07] out in 1986 so it's a very old ass game but it's only like 10 hours which yeah for an rpg that's [00:41:14] nothing that's yeah that's the prologue of persona 5 uh but um but one through five like uh like two is [00:41:22] about 20 hours three is about 30 and then four and five are about 30 35 a piece but when you hit [00:41:29] six is when they start six is when they start having like four six is about 40 to 50 wasn't seven like [00:41:36] 80 hours it's the original playstation version of seven is minimum 100 hours and it doesn't start [00:41:42] getting good until you're like 30 hours in or some shit has the issue there there's a famous picture [00:41:48] of the dragon quest 7 script and it's just like this massive book bookshelf of the script because [00:41:53] because dragon quest 6 came out 95 and then 7 didn't come out till 01 so there was like a huge gap [00:41:59] there and this is a problem is that like it's it's the same problem with persona it's that like [00:42:05] you know like the gaming community knows this is the shit like you know this is gonna be good so [00:42:10] they don't have to hook you right away well that's not great for like newer players i think with 7 is [00:42:15] just they had so many ideas because there's a lot of different story things that happen they bring [00:42:20] the job system back but it's not to like 40 hours in until you can change jobs what it's a good job [00:42:26] system holy shit um and yeah and there's like puzzle elements there's like missed style puzzles that [00:42:31] makes the prologue like ridiculously long though the 3ds remake trims it down to like 60 hours they cut a [00:42:37] lot of fat off of it it it's still it's still kind of long but it it gets going a lot quicker [00:42:43] but i've i've also heard a lot of people say that 7 is probably like one of the craziest rpg stories [00:42:48] ever isn't it isn't that the one where you like you start as like the kid and then you like become [00:42:53] like that's five it's like five oh that's five that's my favorite in the series seven seven is [00:42:59] like is like you start on this little small island and then as you go these other islands start popping [00:43:04] up in the sea oh and the adults are being like oh don't go there they're fine but you like you [00:43:08] sneak over to those islands and you find out like what's been going on you know fragments of the [00:43:13] forgotten past um but yeah five is you literally start getting born out of your mother um and then [00:43:19] your mother dies and then it cuts to you at like age five like sailing the seas with your dad and then [00:43:24] you go until you're an adult and then you get married and have kids and then those kids grow up [00:43:28] to join your party so it's like crazy like you're yeah i won't say too much because the story takes [00:43:34] some interesting twists and turns but it is a fantastic story probably the best story of all [00:43:38] the dragon quest games it's uji hori's favorite game in the series yeah what else you got mike hey uh [00:43:43] naiv you're a target now have you ever watched syphilis and ollie on mtv [01:05:16] magic spells so to do the spells you have to hold a button and then you have to like basically like [01:05:24] draw like these lines with like the d-pad like it's like it's like basically like combos like up up down [01:05:30] down left right left right to do like shield and you find them on the like on walls like drawn on [01:05:38] walls and you don't like just get the spell like you it's like you learn how to do it so part of it is [01:05:44] like seeing them and learning them and like as i'm like reading this thing it was just like here's all [01:05:50] the spells how to do them and i was like oh shit and like there was one that i missed from the like [01:05:57] the first floor that was like so fucking helpful it literally like lets you see like a 16 by 16 snippet [01:06:04] of the like the map the dungeon map like where you are so like stuff like that where i've been wasting [01:06:11] so much time just running around being like have i been in this area yet but like i totally missed [01:06:17] this thing but because of a guide it's helping me get through it because like i don't like i i enjoy [01:06:22] the game a lot but i don't i don't want to like do that thing steam to enable like steam import or have like a separate thing but [01:35:59] the point is like all these launchers and shit like i don't want to have to just let me go through [01:36:06] steam steam is the most functional thing on pc for playing pc games just let it all funnel through [01:36:13] there like everything but it'll never happen it'll never fucking happen well it's probably like release like a big picture mode thing where it's [01:37:31] like a console consolized that would be great the there's another program called play night that [01:37:37] actually allows you to add all of the different stores and it automatically adds all the games [01:37:44] and all the box art and all the metadata it adds all that shit the only problem is it does not have [01:37:51] steam input and steam input is so crucial i find like for some games like especially games that don't [01:37:57] support like fully support controllers you just turn steam input on you're like yep just make it work [01:38:02] on controller and it just fucking works like we were using the nes mini the controllers from the nes mini [01:38:09] have that weird like you know the the thing that connects into like the bottom of the wii controllers [01:38:14] that yeah that little hook that's what the nes mini controllers have yep and we were using that [01:38:21] plugged into an adapter plugged into the pc and we're using an nes controller for ufo 50 and for a long time [01:38:28] we couldn't get it to work and i was like just open up the steam input thing click on it and it was [01:38:35] like boom there
