कर्तव्यपालने विघ्नः

महादेवरानडे इति ख्यातः न्यायधीशः आसीत् । सः कोल्हापुरे स्थानान्तरणं प्राप्तवान् यत्र तस्य बहवः बान्धवाः आसन् । कदाचित् तस्य बन्धुः महादेवस्य पितरं यदि न्यायलयस्य व्यावहारः मदनुकूलः भविष्यति तर्हि उपकृतः भविष्यामि इत्यवदत् । महादेवः अवदत् - यदि अस्माकं बान्धवाः न्यायप्रक्रियायां बाधां जनयेयुः तर्हि निष्पक्षतया कर्तव्यपालनं न भवेत् । अपि च कर्तव्यच्युतिकारणात् मनसः अशान्तिः, स्वास्थ्यहानिः च भवेदिति । तदा पिता तस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा भवतः कर्तव्ये कोऽपि बाधां न जनयति, भवान् निश्चिन्ततया कार्ये प्रवर्तताम् इति ।

Mahadeva Ranade was a famous judge. He was transferred to Kolhapur where he had many relatives. Perhaps his cousin had told Mahadeva's father that he would benefit if the court's dealings went in his favor. Mahadev said, "If our relatives obstruct the judicial process, then there will be no duty to be performed impartially. Also, a dereliction of duty can lead to mental turmoil and loss of health. When the father hears it, he says, "Don't let anyone hinder you from doing your duty; go on with your work."
