Opening night of The Bench — our new monthly table. Pete and Ryan pull up a chair in John's barn, the NFL's opening night on the TV behind John, and three of us take turns on the board.
The board is an idea Ryan borrowed from a viral post about a dad who brought an agenda to the bar. Pete opens with the Chiefs and the season ahead. Then the question for the table: what happened this week that you wouldn't put on social media? An AI agent that took "send it" literally and fired a very punchy email to John, and an honest conversation about a business that didn't work and why men are so afraid to say so. LinkedIn as a business forum, travelling for work, and getting handed a microphone on a conference stage.
On the floor: is AI going to kill us all, or is that the hype talking? Then 9/11, twenty-five years on — where each of us was that morning, and the stories of people showing up for each other. And back home: the first month of school, getting off your phone and showing up, and the affirmations one dad's boys say together in the car every morning.
