Pure Victory Podcast

Ravi Zacharias was so well loved that almost nobody wanted to believe he had a big, dark secret. We put leaders like him on a pedestal, making it devastating when that leader has a moral failure. Some struggle to move past the pain and betrayal they feel, but there are many lessons for us to learn. What if God wants us to become more healthy and mature as a result from the failings of Ravi and others?

Welcome to episode #49!

This week the guys discuss what we can learn from the moral failures of Ravi Zacharias and others, while navigating the feelings we have when we learn the dark side of those we looked up to.

A mature faith isn't dependent on others
We will be often disappointed if we put our faith in Christian leaders and not Jesus because a person of mature faith trusts in God alone! That doesn't mean we can't look up to others, but it does mean we hold our view of them loosely, remembering that they are human, they make mistakes, and we only see a small part of who they are.

We also realize that just because a big name failed to a large degree, it doesn't mean others we know can't find victory in those same areas.

Sin is always exposed
We all have an area that we need to let God work in. Often those areas are dark because we close them off and let the sin fester. God wants us to step into the light of His healing and expose those areas to Him. But if we choose to put up walls and not ask Jesus to heal us, we will be exposed in more harmful ways and will end up hurting others in the process!

1 John 1:5-7: This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Luke 12:3: Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear!

We can have joy knowing that Jesus is enough!
When we see leaders fail who we may have put on a pedestal, we can learn and grow! One of the ways we can learn is that we are all in desperate need of a saviour and everyone is on a level playing field in that way. The joy we have in that truth is that we can fully trust in Jesus - the One who will never fail us and is fully trustworthy!
