Tale of two Fords. Welcome to the Know the Difference Minute for Thursday, March 23rd. Spend money to make money, right? Ford Motor Company reported today its EV division lost $2.1 billion last year as it builds toward an electric vehicle future. That’s the bad news—the good news is the $10 billion operating profit from their gas & hybrid division and fleet business. Ford says expect the same for ’23. Red ink for EV’s, Black for internal combustion. You might recall a re-org last year that created 5 business units. Two of note: Ford Blue for gas/hybrid; Ford Model E for electric. It has big goals. 2 million EV’s per year by the end of 2026. It’s a big jump from where they are now. In 2023, Ford expects to crank out 150,000 F-150 Lightnings and 210,000 Mustang Mach-Es.
