Lisa Bevere writes, “Our culture has wrongly equated loving everyone with approving everything.” And in that effort to love, an enemy appears in various forms to lead God’s people astray (1 John 2:26). Right from the beginning, the deceiver didn’t prompt Eve to question who God was, but to doubt and mistrust what God said. Remaining in the truth starts with knowing the truth, but it’s sustained by trusting deeply and walking closely with the One who is Truth. Being caught off guard is as good as being swept away. Remaining close to Christ and a Christ-like community keeps us from sinning and shows us how to live truth in a truly loving way.
