The Church is always in danger of adding to the Gospel, trusting in self, resting on past performance, or living no different than the world. Paul reminds us that anything added to the Gospel is no gospel, self righteousness is garbage compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Jesus, and God’s people are always moving forward in faith while living as representatives of Heaven on Earth. We need this timely message of warning and encouragement to continuously move forward in faith.
