JP may have been Ryland's 'safe bet' when they met and became friends in college, but their friendship grew and they both realized they were meant for each other. As newlyweds, they learned to love customer service and the beginning stages of a small business through volunteering at some of their friends' brand new brewery (for tips!). After moving to Greenville for jobs, they immediately felt like there was something more that they wanted to build together. They started with their own photography business which grew quickly, but they still knew there was something more that they would build. A friend's advice, "Don't fret about finding the thing, think about who you want to be as people and family," led them to design Scout's Doughnuts, Greenville's only croissant style doughnuts with two locations in upstate SC and popping up daily in coffee shops across town.
