Imperfectly Human: A Transparent Walk With Mr. Daley

Mr Daley discusses whether money brings you happiness. Can you have both or does one come at the expense of the other?

Show Notes

I have been in the fortunate position of having money and not having money. Whilst you may think that not having money is not a fortunate position, I would argue that not having money gives you a whole lot of perspective. It helps you filter out the people who really care about you and those who are just there for a good time. Not having money is a humbling experience and you find out how deep your resolve is and what you can truly endure. I would say that you find out who you really are when you don't have money.
My experiences have shaped my decision making and my value system and whilst I have deviated from my principles on occasion, my faith and the lessons from my experiences help me to quickly address the deviation and course correct.
Money is a great enabler and it is an intoxicating drug. The more you have the more doors you can open and sometimes these are doors that you just shouldn't open. If your value system is skewed, the likelihood is that your access to money will drag you into an endless loop of trying to fill the gaps in your life with possessions only to find that the gap is only plugged momentarily and you need another fix very quickly.
Even the institution of the church has been caught up in the idolatry of money worship and it has given birth to a gospel that teaches of God as a figurative ATM. "The love of money is the root of all evil", we have seen what people are willing to do or not do to fatten their pockets and it is sickening but whilst this love of money persists, it will never change. Governments, public figures, spiritual leaders, teachers and those in many other walks of life are infected by this virus and we are all faced with the simple choice at some point in life, happiness or money?
I set out to explore whether we can have both and in this episode, I summarise my views.
