बुद्धिवन्तः पशुपक्षिणः

कस्मिंश्चित् वने सर्पाः निवसन्ति इति कारणेन तत्र मानवाः न गच्छन्ति स्म । किन्तु कदाचित् कश्चन शशशावकः केनचित् व्याधेन नीतः । तम् अन्विश्य यदा पिता अगच्छत् तदा एकः वानरः मिलितः । वानरः सर्वान् पशुपक्षिणः आहूय एतं विचारम् अकथयत् । तदा ते सर्वे मिलित्वा एकम् उपायम् अकुर्वन् । ते मिलित्वा लतादिभिः आच्छन्नस्य कूपस्य उपरि बहूनि तृणानि प्रसार्य, तन्मध्ये वानरेण आनीतां शशप्रकृतिं स्थापितवन्तः च । पुनः सः व्याधः यदा मृगयार्थम् आगतः तदा शशं ग्रहीतुं पादं स्थापितवान् । तत्रत्यैः तृणैः सह कूपे पतित्वा मरणं प्राप्तवान् ।

In a forest inhabited by snakes, humans never ventured. One day, a hunter captured a young rabbit. When its father set out to find it, a monkey joined in and gathered all the animals and birds to discuss a plan. Together, they devised a clever trick. They spread grass over a well covered with vines and placed a rabbit figure in the middle. When the hunter returned for another hunt and stepped forward to seize the rabbit, he fell into the well along with the grass and met his end.
