UNE Sci Flicks

Our April episode of Sci Flicks sees Marissa looking at the 2011 film that proved to be well and truly ahead of its time, Contagion! She's not doing it alone though; she's joined by Professor Kim Usher, Member of the Order of Australia!

Professor Kim Usher is Professor of Nursing in the School of Health and the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Mental Health Nursing. She has been published in over 300 peer-reviewed journals and has supervised over 40 PhD students to completion of their higher degree research; earning her a James Cook University Vice Chancellor's Award for Higher Degree Research Supervision in 2009. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia for her contribution to nursing and midwifery research in 2017 and in 2018 was listed in the top 10 nursing academics in Australia and New Zealand.

Given her extensive contributions to the fields of nursing and health, we are very excited to have her onboard for Contagion and to have her speak about the health science present within the film!

Contagion will be playing at the Belgrave cinema in Armidale on Thursday April 27th at 6:00pm and you can grab your tickets HERE!

What is UNE Sci Flicks?

The Sci Flicks show on TuneFM is the companion piece to the collaborative program run by Belgrave Cinema in Armidale and UNE. Run and hosted by Dr. Marissa Betts, each month she will sit down with some of UNE's lecturers and researchers to discuss the scientific themes and concepts featured in some of the most popular films to hit the big screen. Sit back and listen as we delve into the science of your favourite flicks!
