00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:21.900
 Hi, and welcome to the Willow Ridge Church weekly podcast.

00:00:22.380 --> 00:00:25.500
 This is where you can find audio for our current and past sermons.

00:00:25.800 --> 00:00:29.980
 We hope that you enjoy this week's installment, and be sure to check back next week to hear

00:00:29.980 --> 00:00:30.880
 the latest message.

00:00:31.300 --> 00:00:32.080
 Thanks for listening.

00:00:46.400 --> 00:00:47.520
 Would you guys pray with me?

00:00:49.140 --> 00:00:52.580
 Lord, we come to you this morning, and just thank you for this wonderful opportunity we

00:00:52.580 --> 00:00:54.380
 have to worship you.

00:00:55.500 --> 00:00:59.960
 Lord, as we open up your word this morning, and your word is powerful, it is living in

00:00:59.960 --> 00:01:01.340
 and it works, Lord.

00:01:01.400 --> 00:01:03.660
 We pray that it would convict us.

00:01:03.760 --> 00:01:08.000
 We pray that it would draw us closer to you, Lord, and more in love with you.

00:01:09.100 --> 00:01:13.360
 Lord, as we gather here this morning, if there's anyone here that does not know you, Lord, we

00:01:13.360 --> 00:01:18.540
 pray as a result of the working of your spirit and the power of your plan, Lord, as we leave

00:01:18.540 --> 00:01:22.940
 here today, there will be those that stepped out of darkness into light, out of death, and

00:01:22.940 --> 00:01:23.780
 into life.

00:01:24.360 --> 00:01:28.100
 And Lord, and we'll give you all the praise and honor and glory for it.

00:01:28.100 --> 00:01:36.180
 Lord, as we look forward to this new year, Lord, we look at it in anticipation of what

00:01:36.180 --> 00:01:42.020
 you have for us as a church, what you have for us as families, what you have for us as individuals.

00:01:42.880 --> 00:01:46.600
 And God, we pray that you would be glorified.

00:01:47.340 --> 00:01:48.880
 And it's in Jesus' name we pray.

00:01:49.700 --> 00:01:50.040
 Amen.

00:01:50.500 --> 00:01:50.740
 Amen.

00:01:51.240 --> 00:01:54.460
 If you've got your Bibles, go on over to John chapter 4.

00:01:55.000 --> 00:01:58.980
 All right, as you turn there, normally there's a video that comes up on screen, and we do

00:01:58.980 --> 00:02:00.280
 not have that this morning.

00:02:00.520 --> 00:02:03.940
 So I want to go over a few of our announcements that we have.

00:02:04.000 --> 00:02:08.980
 The first one that I want to mention is on Friday, January 21st, our women's ministry is

00:02:08.980 --> 00:02:10.940
 going to be gathering here for a game night.

00:02:10.940 --> 00:02:17.340
 And ladies, a wonderful opportunity for you to come and connect with other women here at

00:02:17.340 --> 00:02:20.800
 Willow Ridge Church to build gospel-centered relationships.

00:02:21.080 --> 00:02:25.640
 And so we are doing a sign-up for that in the lobby, and so please go out and sign up for

00:02:25.640 --> 00:02:28.540
 that and be a part of that wonderful night.

00:02:28.900 --> 00:02:35.600
 Also, next Sunday, January the 9th, we will gather together as a church family that evening,

00:02:35.800 --> 00:02:39.000
 and we're going to have a chili and soup night together.

00:02:39.200 --> 00:02:44.140
 Again, a wonderful time for us just coming into the new year to gather together as a church

00:02:44.140 --> 00:02:46.940
 family, to fellowship, to have a wonderful time.

00:02:47.120 --> 00:02:51.040
 And we are wanting to make sure that we've got enough chili and enough soup, and so there's

00:02:51.040 --> 00:02:56.100
 a sign-up for that as well in the lobby, and so if you wouldn't mind signing up for that

00:02:56.100 --> 00:02:56.500
 also.

00:02:56.660 --> 00:03:04.040
 And then lastly, on January 16th, we will be starting back our regular Sunday night programming,

00:03:04.160 --> 00:03:07.620
 as well as our small groups will be starting back.

00:03:07.720 --> 00:03:12.220
 And so we will be beginning a new series that I'm excited about, and what we're going to

00:03:12.220 --> 00:03:13.960
 do for our spring semester.

00:03:14.260 --> 00:03:18.040
 You know, normally it feels weird to say spring semester when it's freezing cold outside, but

00:03:18.040 --> 00:03:22.200
 right now it fits, right, to say spring semester in 85-degree weather.

00:03:22.440 --> 00:03:28.060
 So our spring semester, we're going to go through the book of 1 Corinthians together as a church.

00:03:28.320 --> 00:03:33.020
 And so what I'm going to be challenging everyone to do is to take a section as we go through

00:03:33.020 --> 00:03:35.640
 that week and study that in your quiet time.

00:03:35.920 --> 00:03:39.780
 And then I'm going to be here on Sunday morning, and I will preach through 1 Corinthians.

00:03:40.180 --> 00:03:45.820
 And then in your small groups, you're going to work through 1 Corinthians together as a

00:03:45.820 --> 00:03:46.380
 small group.

00:03:46.380 --> 00:03:50.320
 And so I'm excited to see what this is going to be like for our church.

00:03:50.740 --> 00:03:55.940
 Now, as we're going into, well, as not going into, as we're in the new year, we do have

00:03:55.940 --> 00:04:00.560
 a lot of new groups that haven't previously met before, meeting at different times, meeting

00:04:00.560 --> 00:04:01.420
 at different days.

00:04:01.720 --> 00:04:05.860
 And Pastor Dave is going to have all of that finalized and that information out there to

00:04:05.860 --> 00:04:06.560
 you next week.

00:04:06.620 --> 00:04:10.460
 And so if you haven't been a part of a group, there's a lot of new groups that are starting

00:04:10.460 --> 00:04:16.800
 up, and we'd just love to challenge you to be a part of a group as we gather back together.

00:04:17.120 --> 00:04:22.660
 Well, if you did not recognize our guitar player this morning, I just want to take a minute

00:04:22.660 --> 00:04:23.480
 to introduce y'all.

00:04:23.580 --> 00:04:24.660
 It's Brian Nolasco.

00:04:25.020 --> 00:04:26.640
 The burgers had to miss this morning.

00:04:26.780 --> 00:04:31.640
 And so in the last minute, we called Brian, and Brian agreed to step in and help lead along

00:04:31.640 --> 00:04:32.820
 with Leslie this morning.

00:04:33.320 --> 00:04:36.540
 Brian is our worship leader for our Hispanic service.

00:04:36.680 --> 00:04:38.160
 And so Brian, I just want to say thank you.

00:04:38.360 --> 00:04:39.860
 You're pulling double duty today, brother.

00:04:40.060 --> 00:04:41.240
 We appreciate you.

00:04:41.500 --> 00:04:42.220
 He'll be back here.

00:04:42.280 --> 00:04:42.880
 Yeah, absolutely.

00:04:46.920 --> 00:04:50.940
 Man, leading in English, leading in Spanish, man, you're the guy getting it done today.

00:04:51.280 --> 00:04:52.100
 Well done, sir.

00:04:52.140 --> 00:04:55.880
 And thank you so much for being willing to step in.

00:04:55.880 --> 00:05:02.480
 Well, as we go into this passage in John chapter 4, this series is All Things New.

00:05:02.960 --> 00:05:04.700
 We began it last week.

00:05:04.860 --> 00:05:06.440
 You remember last year, right?

00:05:06.480 --> 00:05:13.800
 We got started in there, and we looked at Revelation 21, and we saw how God is working to make all

00:05:13.800 --> 00:05:15.500
 things new in eternity.

00:05:16.020 --> 00:05:20.860
 And today, we're going to take that step back and look at that immediately for us.

00:05:20.860 --> 00:05:22.540
 But I want to kind of refresh us.

00:05:22.640 --> 00:05:27.700
 If you weren't here last week, I want to kind of remind you of where we're building off of

00:05:27.700 --> 00:05:33.060
 and what we're working toward as we look toward eternity with the Lord.

00:05:33.300 --> 00:05:38.700
 We looked at last week that God makes us both spiritually and morally new, that in eternity

00:05:38.700 --> 00:05:41.560
 that we're set free from the bondage of sin.

00:05:41.760 --> 00:05:47.300
 There's not sin around us, but even more promising and more hopeful with what you and I,

00:05:47.300 --> 00:05:53.100
 as believers, what we struggle with internally most often is we're even set free from the

00:05:53.100 --> 00:05:54.140
 desire of sin.

00:05:54.640 --> 00:05:56.440
 So it's not just that sin's not there.

00:05:56.860 --> 00:06:02.100
 It's that within us, even though we know the right thing to do, even though we desire to

00:06:02.100 --> 00:06:06.580
 do the right thing, there's still that peace in us that wants to pull us back toward the

00:06:06.580 --> 00:06:07.380
 sinful patterns.

00:06:08.380 --> 00:06:10.960
 But in eternity, all of that is set free.

00:06:11.480 --> 00:06:16.440
 The part that got the most of the amens and probably started a lot of us on our New Year's

00:06:16.440 --> 00:06:19.760
 resolutions, right, is that our bodies will be new.

00:06:20.460 --> 00:06:22.960
 And in thinking about that, we don't know what they'll be.

00:06:23.080 --> 00:06:24.200
 We don't know what age.

00:06:24.280 --> 00:06:27.480
 We don't know what standard our bodies will be.

00:06:27.960 --> 00:06:32.180
 But what we can draw from and what we can see from Scripture is that there's no more death.

00:06:32.620 --> 00:06:38.480
 So the pain and the suffering and the hurt that comes from the fact that these bodies are broken

00:06:38.480 --> 00:06:43.240
 because of the humanity that is broken within us, we're set free from.

00:06:43.960 --> 00:06:49.560
 And so we say amen, not that we're going to have chiseled rock-hard abs in eternity, right?

00:06:49.760 --> 00:06:52.280
 But we say amen because there's no more suffering.

00:06:53.100 --> 00:06:53.780
 There's no more hurt.

00:06:53.880 --> 00:06:54.660
 There's no more sickness.

00:06:55.000 --> 00:06:55.960
 There's no more death.

00:06:56.660 --> 00:06:57.500
 And so we celebrate.

00:06:58.220 --> 00:07:02.960
 We look to the fact that even within that, that creation will be new.

00:07:03.640 --> 00:07:05.580
 The no more effects of sin.

00:07:05.660 --> 00:07:11.900
 We saw in Scripture where creation inwardly groans because of the brokenness of sin that's there.

00:07:11.900 --> 00:07:20.700
 But the most promising, the one that gives us the most hope that we have in eternity is the newness of relationship with God.

00:07:21.200 --> 00:07:25.860
 Now, if you're saved right now, you are brought into relationship with God.

00:07:25.980 --> 00:07:29.420
 God promises never to leave us, never to forsake us.

00:07:29.680 --> 00:07:35.820
 God promises and sends His Holy Spirit when upon conversion indwells within us as believers.

00:07:35.980 --> 00:07:38.480
 And so we are filled with the very Spirit of God.

00:07:38.480 --> 00:07:44.280
 But because of the brokenness in which we live in and the brokenness in which our world is set,

00:07:44.380 --> 00:07:47.420
 even though God promises to never leave us or forsake us,

00:07:47.620 --> 00:07:51.460
 even though God promised us His Holy Spirit that indwells within us,

00:07:51.600 --> 00:07:55.040
 we could all say amen to even though we're believers,

00:07:55.040 --> 00:08:00.980
 there becomes points and times in our walk with the Lord where He feels absent and we feel far from Him,

00:08:01.820 --> 00:08:03.160
 even though that's not reality.

00:08:04.160 --> 00:08:08.840
 But what we have the hope is God is there in the newness of relationship.

00:08:09.240 --> 00:08:11.460
 There's no distance within there.

00:08:11.880 --> 00:08:15.040
 And so there's the hope that we have of eternity,

00:08:15.320 --> 00:08:20.460
 but even more so as we look to the reality of where we are now,

00:08:21.040 --> 00:08:25.420
 we want to look at the fact that salvation in Christ makes us new.

00:08:25.860 --> 00:08:27.040
 So what we're going to do this morning,

00:08:27.120 --> 00:08:33.160
 we're going to try to work through pretty much all of John chapter 4, which is a lot, all right?

00:08:33.180 --> 00:08:37.120
 So we're going to read a lot and then talk a little and then read a lot and talk a little

00:08:37.120 --> 00:08:43.000
 and kind of work through that and hopefully so our children's ministry workers don't get left in there too long, right?

00:08:43.260 --> 00:08:45.760
 Yeah, get out of here in a decent time.

00:08:45.760 --> 00:08:50.080
 So let's start reading in John chapter 4, verse 1.

00:08:51.080 --> 00:08:58.440
 Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John,

00:08:58.660 --> 00:09:02.660
 although Jesus Himself did not baptize, but only His disciples,

00:09:03.300 --> 00:09:06.420
 He left Judea and departed again for Galilee.

00:09:06.840 --> 00:09:08.960
 And He had had to pass through Samaria.

00:09:09.360 --> 00:09:15.880
 So He came to a town of Samaria called Sychar near the field that Jacob had given to His son Joseph.

00:09:16.480 --> 00:09:17.860
 And Jacob's well was there.

00:09:18.420 --> 00:09:26.500
 So Jesus, wearied as He was from His journey, was sitting beside the well, and it was about the sixth hour.

00:09:27.020 --> 00:09:29.360
 And a woman from Samaria came to draw water.

00:09:29.880 --> 00:09:31.180
 And Jesus said to her,

00:09:31.660 --> 00:09:32.460
 Give me a drink.

00:09:32.960 --> 00:09:36.200
 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

00:09:36.740 --> 00:09:38.580
 And the Samaritan woman said to Him,

00:09:38.580 --> 00:09:44.280
 How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?

00:09:44.640 --> 00:09:47.780
 For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

00:09:48.140 --> 00:09:49.540
 And Jesus answered her,

00:09:49.880 --> 00:09:55.480
 If you knew the gift of God and who it is that is saying to you, give me a drink,

00:09:55.680 --> 00:09:59.940
 you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.

00:10:00.180 --> 00:10:00.780
 Verse 11,

00:10:01.460 --> 00:10:02.520
 The woman said to Him,

00:10:02.520 --> 00:10:05.780
 Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep.

00:10:06.300 --> 00:10:08.460
 Where do you get that living water?

00:10:08.980 --> 00:10:11.000
 Are you greater than our father Jacob?

00:10:11.460 --> 00:10:16.160
 He gave us the well and drank from it Himself, as did His sons and His livestock.

00:10:16.680 --> 00:10:17.900
 And Jesus said to her,

00:10:18.280 --> 00:10:21.880
 Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again.

00:10:21.880 --> 00:10:27.440
 But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.

00:10:27.820 --> 00:10:35.080
 The water I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

00:10:35.740 --> 00:10:36.880
 And the woman said to Him,

00:10:36.880 --> 00:10:43.780
 Sir, give me this water so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.

00:10:44.180 --> 00:10:51.920
 Well, what we're going to look at this morning are three different things that Christ gives us in newness from our relationship with Him.

00:10:52.020 --> 00:10:58.180
 That we can see from His interactions with the Samaritan woman of three different pieces as we work through all of this.

00:10:58.460 --> 00:11:04.100
 And the first thing that in a relationship with Christ of what Jesus provides for us is new water.

00:11:04.900 --> 00:11:06.240
 Jesus gives us new water.

00:11:06.720 --> 00:11:14.280
 Now, verse 9 is a key verse for us to understand what is happening here and what Jesus is doing.

00:11:14.760 --> 00:11:21.500
 So Jesus asked this woman for a drink of water as He's there during the heat of the day.

00:11:21.500 --> 00:11:23.560
 And remember, He's traveling.

00:11:24.080 --> 00:11:25.560
 He's not traveling in His car.

00:11:25.660 --> 00:11:26.820
 He's not traveling on a plane.

00:11:26.900 --> 00:11:27.660
 He's not traveling on a train.

00:11:27.840 --> 00:11:28.980
 They are walking.

00:11:29.740 --> 00:11:34.640
 And during the heat of the day, during the desert area which they find themselves,

00:11:34.920 --> 00:11:38.000
 He is very hot and He asks her,

00:11:38.640 --> 00:11:41.940
 Could you give me some water?

00:11:42.360 --> 00:11:50.880
 And then her response to Him in verse 9 kind of lays the groundwork for all that's going to happen and unfold

00:11:50.980 --> 00:11:53.040
 over the course of this interaction.

00:11:53.040 --> 00:11:53.700
 It says,

00:11:53.700 --> 00:11:55.300
 The Samaritan woman said to Him,

00:11:56.320 --> 00:12:02.400
 How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?

00:12:02.580 --> 00:12:06.180
 For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

00:12:06.260 --> 00:12:12.640
 So it's key for us to kind of understand the dynamic of what has brought them into this place

00:12:12.640 --> 00:12:20.340
 where a woman who's hot, someone who's thirsty and you're drawing water and they're asking for some

00:12:20.340 --> 00:12:25.200
 while her response to Jesus is neither rude or inappropriate.

00:12:25.920 --> 00:12:27.960
 It's culturally fitting.

00:12:29.640 --> 00:12:34.060
 And it's not because of her that brings her to this point.

00:12:34.960 --> 00:12:42.700
 You see, the Samaritans were descendants of how they were viewed from the Israelites as descendants of the Assyrians.

00:12:43.200 --> 00:12:51.820
 The Assyrians had captured Samaria, which at the time Samaria was in the northern kingdom of Israel around 722 B.C.

00:12:51.820 --> 00:13:03.220
 And when the Assyrians captured Samaria, the Assyrians removed all Israelites of power and of influence and they deported them.

00:13:03.560 --> 00:13:07.100
 They sent them off and they claimed this is going to be our city.

00:13:07.100 --> 00:13:10.680
 But they didn't deport all of the Israelites.

00:13:11.140 --> 00:13:12.480
 They left some there.

00:13:13.240 --> 00:13:20.920
 And so then the Assyrians and the Jews that were left behind over generation to generation continued to marry.

00:13:21.300 --> 00:13:23.780
 And as they would marry, they would have children.

00:13:24.220 --> 00:13:31.140
 And what you had was this different race was formed and was created, the race of the Samaritans.

00:13:31.140 --> 00:13:38.260
 Now, the Jews viewed the Samaritans at extremely low levels.

00:13:38.680 --> 00:13:42.160
 Their view of the Samaritans were based off of two things.

00:13:42.980 --> 00:13:50.700
 During a time where race was emphasized, they were considered to be racially unclean.

00:13:51.360 --> 00:13:54.440
 A mixed race, not purely Jewish.

00:13:54.960 --> 00:14:01.780
 But they were also, and probably even more prominently, considered religiously unclean.

00:14:01.780 --> 00:14:04.480
 You see, they had a mixed faith.

00:14:05.340 --> 00:14:16.720
 The pagan Assyrian practices that came in with the Assyrians had mixed also with the Jewish practices that were there.

00:14:17.240 --> 00:14:21.040
 And so what was left was this divide that was there.

00:14:21.300 --> 00:14:26.540
 So she's kind of interacting culturally with what should be expected.

00:14:26.820 --> 00:14:38.240
 She says to Jesus, why are you, a pure Jewish man, talking to me, an unclean Samaritan woman?

00:14:39.720 --> 00:14:46.980
 As the nature and dynamic has determined for them in that setting of what is clean and what is not.

00:14:47.900 --> 00:14:55.540
 But in the hope and the beauty of the gospel, what we're going to see is we're not talking about a racial impurity because there is no such thing.

00:14:56.380 --> 00:15:01.120
 We're talking about a spiritual impurity that Jesus is going to bring with new water.

00:15:02.000 --> 00:15:03.720
 And so Jesus answers her in verse 10.

00:15:03.720 --> 00:15:15.240
 And he says, if you knew the gift of God and who it is that is saying to you, give me a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.

00:15:15.900 --> 00:15:21.920
 Now I can imagine, like, hearing this concept of living water is kind of like the whole Jack and the Beanstalk thing, right?

00:15:22.560 --> 00:15:23.280
 Like, what are you talking about?

00:15:23.660 --> 00:15:24.860
 Living water.

00:15:25.260 --> 00:15:35.340
 But what Jesus is doing is letting her know as she responds correctly based off of culture to what any man would have said to her.

00:15:35.340 --> 00:15:36.720
 It's like, hold up, time out.

00:15:36.880 --> 00:15:39.440
 I'm not like any other man that you've engaged with.

00:15:40.620 --> 00:15:43.120
 And we're going to see she's got some engagements.

00:15:44.680 --> 00:15:47.240
 She's got some situations in her life.

00:15:49.280 --> 00:15:51.500
 But Jesus is not going to be like any Samaritan man.

00:15:52.660 --> 00:15:54.300
 Jesus is not going to be like any Jewish man.

00:15:54.800 --> 00:16:00.200
 With what Jesus is going to bring and what Jesus is going to offer are completely different.

00:16:00.960 --> 00:16:04.020
 So for her, she's confused.

00:16:04.780 --> 00:16:06.960
 What do you mean that this is what you're going to do?

00:16:07.140 --> 00:16:09.580
 And she says, are you greater than our father Jacob?

00:16:10.520 --> 00:16:18.100
 He gave us this well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.

00:16:18.880 --> 00:16:19.940
 So she's saying, well, hold up.

00:16:20.100 --> 00:16:26.380
 You say that you're different, but there's no way that you are greater than Jacob.

00:16:27.480 --> 00:16:33.600
 But Jesus says in verse 13, everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again.

00:16:34.540 --> 00:16:39.560
 But whoever drinks of the water I will give him will never be thirsty again.

00:16:39.560 --> 00:16:48.860
 The water I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

00:16:48.880 --> 00:16:55.760
 And we begin to see this conflict of this dialogue that is existing between the two of them.

00:16:56.380 --> 00:16:57.840
 Is it too good to be true?

00:16:57.940 --> 00:17:02.320
 Well, for those of us who know the story, for those of us who understand the gospel,

00:17:02.520 --> 00:17:06.420
 that's what we understand of what Jesus is talking about, this new water.

00:17:06.580 --> 00:17:07.420
 It's different.

00:17:07.980 --> 00:17:09.740
 It's different than any other faith.

00:17:09.840 --> 00:17:11.180
 It's different than any other religion.

00:17:11.380 --> 00:17:12.820
 It's different than any other practice.

00:17:12.820 --> 00:17:17.320
 It's different than any other culture because it comes to bring to what is broken.

00:17:18.440 --> 00:17:23.280
 So that life can happen and be restored and be eternal.

00:17:24.100 --> 00:17:27.140
 And so Jesus offers a water that is different.

00:17:27.920 --> 00:17:31.920
 The water that Jesus talks about is a water that's not found from a well,

00:17:32.060 --> 00:17:33.740
 but water that is a gift of God.

00:17:33.820 --> 00:17:34.560
 We understand that.

00:17:34.760 --> 00:17:37.900
 Jesus is saying from the very beginning, you can't get this water.

00:17:39.100 --> 00:17:40.100
 You can't earn it.

00:17:40.800 --> 00:17:43.200
 You can't dig deep enough for it.

00:17:43.680 --> 00:17:47.880
 You can't send your pot down as far as you can.

00:17:48.120 --> 00:17:50.080
 You'll continue to dig a hole.

00:17:50.620 --> 00:17:53.840
 You see, this water comes from me and comes from me alone.

00:17:54.540 --> 00:17:57.660
 This water is a gift of God as his salvation.

00:17:58.740 --> 00:18:01.280
 Jesus says that this water is living.

00:18:02.380 --> 00:18:06.500
 That he wants her to understand that in this of what he will share,

00:18:06.500 --> 00:18:09.900
 that this living water is different than any other thing.

00:18:10.160 --> 00:18:13.540
 Cannot be defined by anything else.

00:18:13.760 --> 00:18:16.460
 Cannot be compared to by anything else.

00:18:16.700 --> 00:18:20.300
 And what makes this different is that this water, it satisfies.

00:18:21.720 --> 00:18:24.900
 Blessed are those who thirst for righteousness, Jesus says.

00:18:25.640 --> 00:18:25.820
 Right?

00:18:26.160 --> 00:18:32.980
 It satisfies, but it's going to satisfy something different than just being a little thirsty.

00:18:33.680 --> 00:18:38.020
 It's going to satisfy a little bit different than when your throat gets a little dry

00:18:38.020 --> 00:18:40.340
 and you need to take a bottle of water and have a sip.

00:18:42.200 --> 00:18:45.380
 This water is going to meet more than a physical need

00:18:45.380 --> 00:18:49.520
 because this water satisfies the longing of the soul.

00:18:50.520 --> 00:18:52.740
 But that this water will become something.

00:18:53.660 --> 00:18:56.260
 It will become a spring within you.

00:18:57.080 --> 00:18:59.820
 Water that produces water.

00:19:00.640 --> 00:19:07.160
 That from you, this water will continue to build and to flow and to continue on in your life.

00:19:07.280 --> 00:19:11.540
 Because this water is the water that gives life.

00:19:12.220 --> 00:19:13.700
 The water that gives life.

00:19:14.720 --> 00:19:20.880
 One of Aaron and I's favorite shows that we like to watch is the TV show Life Below Zero.

00:19:21.460 --> 00:19:23.060
 I don't know if you've ever watched Life Below Zero,

00:19:23.260 --> 00:19:25.020
 but we like to watch Life Below Zero.

00:19:25.240 --> 00:19:28.840
 And it's about people who kind of live off the grid in Alaska.

00:19:29.780 --> 00:19:35.960
 And one of the things that I've learned over the course of watching Life Below Zero

00:19:35.960 --> 00:19:41.660
 is that the state of Alaska is filled with natural resources.

00:19:42.280 --> 00:19:48.280
 Like you can go there and everything you need is provided in this ecosystem that they have.

00:19:48.860 --> 00:19:54.060
 And during the winter months, which is most of the year for most of the people,

00:19:54.060 --> 00:19:58.160
 you would think the need that they have that is the greatest is heat.

00:19:58.280 --> 00:20:02.380
 But it's not because they've got all of the wood that they need and they can make fire.

00:20:02.920 --> 00:20:10.500
 You would think that meat and vegetables would be the most valuable resource that they could store up,

00:20:10.620 --> 00:20:11.340
 but they don't.

00:20:11.420 --> 00:20:17.140
 But even in the coldest times of the year, there are animals who are migrating and moving through,

00:20:17.220 --> 00:20:18.440
 and so they're able to provide.

00:20:19.180 --> 00:20:27.360
 But the resource that they have there that they long for the most that is the hardest to obtain is water.

00:20:28.300 --> 00:20:29.840
 Even though it's surrounded by snow.

00:20:30.560 --> 00:20:32.840
 And I thought, just get some snow and put it in a pot, and then you're good.

00:20:32.920 --> 00:20:34.060
 But it doesn't work that way.

00:20:34.720 --> 00:20:38.960
 A big pot of snow this big will turn into a little bit of water about that big.

00:20:39.540 --> 00:20:43.680
 And so they've got to go out, and they've got to break ice, and they've got to get water out,

00:20:43.780 --> 00:20:48.880
 and they've got to do this every single day, and sometimes negative 30, negative 40 degrees.

00:20:49.560 --> 00:20:55.560
 And they have to do this every day because the water that they long for sustains their life.

00:20:56.100 --> 00:21:01.540
 That if they go too long without water, their life will no longer be sustained, and they will die.

00:21:03.540 --> 00:21:05.260
 But Jesus says this water is different.

00:21:06.240 --> 00:21:12.900
 It doesn't just sustain life, but Jesus says this water gives life.

00:21:14.020 --> 00:21:16.940
 From this water is where life comes from.

00:21:17.680 --> 00:21:22.940
 From this water is not where you just get from by day by day,

00:21:23.400 --> 00:21:27.560
 but this water secures you for all of eternity.

00:21:28.580 --> 00:21:30.280
 And I love what she says.

00:21:31.260 --> 00:21:32.660
 You ever had that bad day at work?

00:21:33.540 --> 00:21:33.940
 You know?

00:21:34.460 --> 00:21:36.460
 You ever had that bad day at home, right?

00:21:36.980 --> 00:21:38.100
 Everything's falling apart.

00:21:38.500 --> 00:21:39.580
 Nothing's going right.

00:21:39.800 --> 00:21:41.940
 Everything is just the inconvenience of the day.

00:21:42.160 --> 00:21:48.540
 Like, I can hear this frustration in her as going and getting water every single day would have been her challenge.

00:21:48.640 --> 00:21:52.280
 Now, there's some meaning going on here of why she's there during the middle of the day,

00:21:52.360 --> 00:21:54.080
 during the heat of the day, by herself.

00:21:54.140 --> 00:21:56.840
 And we're going to see that as we kind of work through this.

00:21:56.980 --> 00:22:01.780
 But you can tell and you can hear from her response the desperation in her voice.

00:22:01.780 --> 00:22:10.880
 And she says to him, sir, give me this water so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.

00:22:11.240 --> 00:22:12.680
 She's like, you can solve this problem.

00:22:13.440 --> 00:22:15.880
 I don't have to come out here and drip in the sweat.

00:22:16.500 --> 00:22:27.900
 I don't have to take my pot all the way down and pull it all the way up and carry it all the way back to my house to just do it again tomorrow and do it again the day after that and do it again the day after that.

00:22:27.900 --> 00:22:29.400
 Then I want this.

00:22:30.400 --> 00:22:31.740
 So look at verse 16.

00:22:33.360 --> 00:22:36.960
 Jesus said to her, go call your husband and come here.

00:22:37.960 --> 00:22:41.500
 And the woman answered him, I have no husband.

00:22:42.540 --> 00:22:47.120
 And Jesus said to her, you are right in saying I have no husband.

00:22:47.640 --> 00:22:51.740
 For you have had five husbands and the one you have now is not your husband.

00:22:52.360 --> 00:22:53.840
 What you have said is true.

00:22:54.560 --> 00:22:57.940
 And the woman said to him, sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.

00:22:58.080 --> 00:22:58.280
 Right?

00:22:58.600 --> 00:23:00.460
 The most obvious statement in the Bible.

00:23:00.580 --> 00:23:00.720
 Right?

00:23:01.380 --> 00:23:01.920
 Verse 20.

00:23:02.540 --> 00:23:04.620
 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain.

00:23:04.620 --> 00:23:08.280
 But you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.

00:23:08.280 --> 00:23:14.920
 And Jesus said to her, woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

00:23:15.480 --> 00:23:17.200
 You worship what you do not know.

00:23:17.320 --> 00:23:19.940
 We worship what we know for salvation is from the Jews.

00:23:20.340 --> 00:23:20.920
 Verse 23.

00:23:21.080 --> 00:23:26.180
 But the hour is coming and is now here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth.

00:23:26.380 --> 00:23:28.860
 For the Father is seeking such people to worship him.

00:23:29.980 --> 00:23:34.780
 God is spirit and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

00:23:35.000 --> 00:23:40.400
 And the woman said to him, I know that Messiah is coming, he who is called Christ.

00:23:40.640 --> 00:23:43.460
 And when he comes, he will tell us all things.

00:23:43.720 --> 00:23:47.060
 And Jesus said to her, I who speak to you am he.

00:23:47.540 --> 00:23:52.980
 What we see here, not only does Jesus give us new water, Jesus gives us new worship.

00:23:53.800 --> 00:23:55.040
 Jesus sends her to get her husband.

00:23:56.420 --> 00:23:57.380
 She says, I want this water.

00:23:58.480 --> 00:23:59.620
 He says, fine, go get your husband.

00:24:00.560 --> 00:24:07.140
 And she tells Jesus, well, I don't have a husband, which is half truth, which a half truth, you know, is a whole lot, right?

00:24:07.780 --> 00:24:08.760
 And Jesus tells her, you're right.

00:24:09.120 --> 00:24:15.860
 You don't have a husband because you've had five and the man you're living with now isn't your husband.

00:24:15.860 --> 00:24:19.620
 So she says, obviously, you must be a prophet, right?

00:24:20.140 --> 00:24:25.920
 The disconnect from who Christ is, but that's for her the most obvious thing that this could be.

00:24:26.140 --> 00:24:34.260
 I mean, could you imagine, like, you're at Walmart, and you bump into someone who you've never met in your entire life,

00:24:34.580 --> 00:24:37.840
 and you say, hey, could you pass me the Cocoa Pebbles?

00:24:39.220 --> 00:24:45.840
 And they're like, oh, yeah, by the way, you remember in 2001 when you didn't really do things right on your taxes?

00:24:46.200 --> 00:24:47.760
 You're like, oh, what, right, you know?

00:24:48.480 --> 00:24:49.960
 Like, this is what's going on here.

00:24:50.520 --> 00:24:55.100
 There's no way that Jesus should know the things that Jesus knows.

00:24:56.080 --> 00:24:59.220
 He's a Jewish man traveling through town, she thinks.

00:25:00.720 --> 00:25:05.840
 Obviously for her, he must be a prophet.

00:25:07.120 --> 00:25:11.320
 And so what she begins to do, she senses there's some religion going on here.

00:25:12.340 --> 00:25:15.620
 You're not just a Jewish man who's willing to talk to a Samaritan woman.

00:25:15.780 --> 00:25:16.760
 You're a man of religion.

00:25:17.240 --> 00:25:18.360
 You're a man of faith.

00:25:19.060 --> 00:25:19.880
 You're a prophet.

00:25:20.580 --> 00:25:24.940
 And what she tries to do is to move the conversation.

00:25:25.900 --> 00:25:27.580
 She tries to deflect it.

00:25:28.080 --> 00:25:32.680
 It began by understanding the sinful life in which she lives in,

00:25:32.800 --> 00:25:38.440
 and now she tries to push it to a religious debate of where you should worship.

00:25:38.780 --> 00:25:46.260
 And she wants to argue in her mind with this prophet, but not yet understanding that he's the Messiah.

00:25:46.820 --> 00:25:54.280
 But what Jesus wants to get her to is that in worship, in the new worship of what Jesus is bringing for her,

00:25:54.500 --> 00:25:57.480
 the worship of what Jesus brings us when we're found in him,

00:25:57.620 --> 00:26:02.360
 it's not the where, but it's the how and the whom that matters.

00:26:02.980 --> 00:26:04.020
 Look back at verse 21.

00:26:05.380 --> 00:26:12.760
 Jesus says, woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

00:26:13.160 --> 00:26:14.700
 That's what she's trying to bring the debate to.

00:26:16.140 --> 00:26:19.460
 Verse 22, you worship what you do not know.

00:26:19.980 --> 00:26:23.320
 We worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

00:26:23.900 --> 00:26:30.540
 But the hour is coming and is now here when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth.

00:26:30.980 --> 00:26:33.720
 For the Father is seeking such people to worship him.

00:26:34.300 --> 00:26:39.500
 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

00:26:39.980 --> 00:26:49.320
 The internal aspects of how you and I worship Christ are vastly more important than our external experiences.

00:26:50.120 --> 00:27:03.540
 The internal aspects of the character and nature and spirit of who we are in Christ are vastly more important than any external worship experience.

00:27:04.580 --> 00:27:10.160
 Jesus says that true worship is based in knowing God, not in experience.

00:27:10.660 --> 00:27:11.920
 Worship comes from salvation.

00:27:12.640 --> 00:27:15.820
 And he says there's this standard that we're going to see in worship.

00:27:16.420 --> 00:27:21.360
 There's the standard of what's there and that we're called to worship God in spirit and in truth.

00:27:21.540 --> 00:27:24.140
 This is the how and the whom of worship.

00:27:24.600 --> 00:27:26.740
 We worship in spirit and truth.

00:27:26.740 --> 00:27:35.540
 So to worship in the spirit acknowledges that there's something supernatural that's taking place between me and God in worship.

00:27:36.700 --> 00:27:43.460
 Whether it's in these chairs, whether it's in your car, whether it's in your backyard, or whether it's on your knees by your bed.

00:27:44.340 --> 00:27:51.520
 There's a supernatural spirit, there's a supernatural spiritual thing that is taking place between us and God.

00:27:51.520 --> 00:28:00.760
 That my affections and my longings are stirring for him and are pointed to him.

00:28:01.960 --> 00:28:05.900
 Not because of who I am, but because of who he is.

00:28:07.200 --> 00:28:09.640
 And we worship in spirit.

00:28:11.320 --> 00:28:13.900
 It's more than the things that we do.

00:28:14.580 --> 00:28:16.760
 It's more than the place that we gather.

00:28:17.780 --> 00:28:20.680
 It's more than the experience that's there.

00:28:21.480 --> 00:28:23.600
 That we worship in spirit.

00:28:23.960 --> 00:28:26.920
 And this can only happen in believers.

00:28:27.820 --> 00:28:30.400
 But we also worship in truth.

00:28:31.080 --> 00:28:39.180
 That our worship is based in who God is, not in who we are.

00:28:40.120 --> 00:28:40.300
 Right?

00:28:41.220 --> 00:28:42.260
 The beauty of that.

00:28:43.220 --> 00:28:45.260
 It's our response to his holiness.

00:28:46.360 --> 00:28:48.100
 It's our response to his goodness.

00:28:49.240 --> 00:28:51.100
 It's our response to his love.

00:28:51.800 --> 00:28:56.580
 It's understanding what transforms and how that works within us.

00:28:57.220 --> 00:29:09.540
 But the truth of the nature of who God is, the more that we dive into him, the more we know his holiness and his goodness, the more that we worship him.

00:29:10.000 --> 00:29:14.440
 And Jesus says, you can't worship him if your spirit is in line.

00:29:14.440 --> 00:29:17.660
 You can't worship him if you do not know.

00:29:18.660 --> 00:29:22.860
 And so with new water, with new life, comes new worship.

00:29:23.540 --> 00:29:33.200
 No longer tied to the traditions of the human perspective, but from the internal desire to know him more and to love him more.

00:29:34.200 --> 00:29:35.440
 And look at verse 25.

00:29:35.440 --> 00:29:35.500
 And look at verse 25.

00:29:37.180 --> 00:29:37.920
 It says,

00:29:38.020 --> 00:29:38.880
 The woman said to him,

00:29:39.660 --> 00:29:41.980
 I know that Messiah is coming.

00:29:43.000 --> 00:29:45.200
 He who is called Christ.

00:29:45.840 --> 00:29:50.260
 When he comes, he will tell us all things.

00:29:50.380 --> 00:29:52.400
 Let's pause there for just a second.

00:29:54.400 --> 00:29:59.440
 Jesus has left where he was before because word's getting out about him.

00:30:00.620 --> 00:30:03.020
 And Jesus does this oftentimes in ministry.

00:30:04.160 --> 00:30:13.600
 And there's no really clear way to explain it other than Jesus is walking under a providence and sovereignty of God that you and I can't possibly imagine.

00:30:14.340 --> 00:30:19.060
 There's points and times where in a city, so many people begin to talk about all that he's doing.

00:30:19.360 --> 00:30:21.440
 And Jesus is like, it's time to go.

00:30:21.580 --> 00:30:22.600
 And we would think, no, no, no.

00:30:22.700 --> 00:30:23.920
 We need to lay roots here.

00:30:24.880 --> 00:30:30.760
 There's so many times where Jesus shares who he is with someone and then looks at them.

00:30:30.940 --> 00:30:32.240
 And we can't understand it.

00:30:32.420 --> 00:30:37.180
 But Jesus, in knowing the plan of God that's going to lead him to Calvary, says,

00:30:37.340 --> 00:30:38.980
 But don't talk.

00:30:39.520 --> 00:30:40.160
 Just shh.

00:30:42.680 --> 00:30:53.760
 And Jesus, culturally speaking, with a nobody, looks at her because he knows that she is someone.

00:30:55.180 --> 00:30:58.380
 And in verse 26, Jesus said to her,

00:30:58.800 --> 00:31:00.200
 I who speak to you am he.

00:31:01.180 --> 00:31:05.340
 Jesus says, hey, you've had five husbands.

00:31:06.600 --> 00:31:09.240
 The man you're living with now isn't your husband.

00:31:10.100 --> 00:31:13.000
 You're out here in the middle of the day, during the heat of the day, by yourself,

00:31:13.040 --> 00:31:17.780
 because you don't come out during the cool of the morning when everyone else comes out here in the cool of the morning to get water.

00:31:17.980 --> 00:31:20.520
 Because what we know is when you come out here in the cool of the morning,

00:31:20.740 --> 00:31:24.220
 even your own people don't want to be with you because they know the behaviors that you've had in your life.

00:31:25.820 --> 00:31:26.640
 I'm the Messiah.

00:31:28.240 --> 00:31:29.260
 I'm the Messiah.

00:31:30.760 --> 00:31:33.500
 New worship begins to happen.

00:31:34.200 --> 00:31:37.020
 What we begin to see of who Jesus is.

00:31:38.040 --> 00:31:39.060
 Look at verse 27.

00:31:40.740 --> 00:31:42.880
 And just then his disciples came back.

00:31:43.980 --> 00:31:46.560
 I love the honesty of the Gospels.

00:31:47.720 --> 00:31:55.320
 They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but no one said, what do you seek or why are you talking with her?

00:31:56.320 --> 00:32:01.460
 John gives us a glimpse into the thoughts of what's happening and taking place.

00:32:02.180 --> 00:32:06.060
 They're baffled that Jesus is talking to a Samaritan woman.

00:32:07.020 --> 00:32:12.500
 Tax collectors and thieves are confused by what Jesus is doing here.

00:32:13.640 --> 00:32:18.680
 So the woman left her water jug and went away into town and said to the people,

00:32:19.120 --> 00:32:21.620
 come see a man who told me all that I ever did.

00:32:22.720 --> 00:32:24.180
 Can this be the Christ?

00:32:25.040 --> 00:32:27.600
 They went out of the town and were coming to him.

00:32:28.400 --> 00:32:31.820
 And meanwhile, the disciples were urging him saying, Rabbi, eat.

00:32:32.120 --> 00:32:33.160
 Remember, they're just pausing.

00:32:33.380 --> 00:32:35.140
 They were sent in town to get food.

00:32:35.380 --> 00:32:36.320
 He's ready to eat.

00:32:36.420 --> 00:32:37.420
 This is what they wanted to do.

00:32:37.420 --> 00:32:43.080
 But he said to them, I have food to eat that you do not know about.

00:32:44.420 --> 00:32:48.020
 So the disciples said to one another, has someone brought him something to eat?

00:32:48.120 --> 00:32:50.600
 They're curious, like, Jesus, did somebody bring you like a Big Mac meal?

00:32:50.740 --> 00:32:51.800
 Like, what's going on here, right?

00:32:54.280 --> 00:32:59.700
 And Jesus said to them, my food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.

00:33:00.780 --> 00:33:04.720
 Do you not say that there are yet four months, then harvest will come?

00:33:05.000 --> 00:33:10.620
 Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes and see that the fields are white for harvest.

00:33:11.460 --> 00:33:17.340
 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that

00:33:17.340 --> 00:33:20.380
 the sower and the reaper may rejoice together.

00:33:21.280 --> 00:33:25.660
 For here the saying holds true, one sows and another reaps.

00:33:26.220 --> 00:33:29.100
 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor.

00:33:29.860 --> 00:33:33.060
 Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.

00:33:33.900 --> 00:33:38.540
 Verse 39, many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony.

00:33:39.240 --> 00:33:40.860
 He told me all that I ever did.

00:33:42.260 --> 00:33:47.320
 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days.

00:33:48.100 --> 00:33:50.460
 And many more believed because of his word.

00:33:51.200 --> 00:33:55.440
 And they said to the woman, and it's no longer because of what you said that we believe,

00:33:55.620 --> 00:34:02.120
 for they have heard, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.

00:34:03.120 --> 00:34:08.000
 The last thing that I want us to look at this morning as we close is Jesus brings new water.

00:34:08.920 --> 00:34:09.900
 Jesus brings new worship.

00:34:10.640 --> 00:34:11.580
 Jesus brings a new way.

00:34:12.840 --> 00:34:17.520
 The gospel transforms not only our eternity, but who we are.

00:34:18.500 --> 00:34:23.620
 The disciples don't even understand the power of this moment, of what has happened and taken place.

00:34:24.280 --> 00:34:26.300
 They show up, and what is Jesus doing?

00:34:27.200 --> 00:34:28.240
 He's talking to a woman.

00:34:29.440 --> 00:34:30.640
 He's talking to a Samaritan woman.

00:34:31.680 --> 00:34:32.480
 Why would he do that?

00:34:33.620 --> 00:34:38.300
 And then they, Jesus, we brought you food, but you asked us.

00:34:39.440 --> 00:34:43.600
 And Jesus says, well, there's something more important than food, something that we need to talk about.

00:34:44.540 --> 00:34:53.060
 So the woman leaves, left everything behind, went into town, and said to the people, what verse 29 tells us,

00:34:53.300 --> 00:34:56.560
 come see a man who told me all that I ever did.

00:34:56.760 --> 00:34:57.960
 Can this be the Christ?

00:35:00.140 --> 00:35:03.680
 And they went out of the town, and were coming to him.

00:35:05.840 --> 00:35:12.100
 You know, times change, and people change, but I believe by our nature, not a lot changes.

00:35:13.960 --> 00:35:21.600
 And a woman who once before wouldn't come to a well out of the fear of the shame of the people who would be at the well,

00:35:22.660 --> 00:35:29.460
 runs into town, and like throwing her life on a billboard,

00:35:30.700 --> 00:35:33.280
 says, hey, I know that y'all talk about me.

00:35:34.900 --> 00:35:36.400
 I know that y'all know.

00:35:38.240 --> 00:35:40.680
 I know that I'm the person that gets whispered about.

00:35:42.120 --> 00:35:44.120
 Come meet a man who knows all that, too.

00:35:45.340 --> 00:35:47.600
 Come meet him.

00:35:47.900 --> 00:35:51.380
 He's told me about everything that I've ever done.

00:35:51.540 --> 00:35:52.100
 And this is key.

00:35:52.300 --> 00:35:55.060
 She's not bragging about her sin, but she's amazed by the Messiah.

00:36:00.900 --> 00:36:05.100
 And the people heard, and they were coming to him.

00:36:07.300 --> 00:36:16.620
 Jesus looks at the disciples, and he says, in four months, it'll be time to take the harvest, right?

00:36:17.520 --> 00:36:21.440
 If you've ever planted fruits and vegetables, you know that you don't put the seed in the ground,

00:36:21.540 --> 00:36:23.800
 and the next day you come and you take the fruit, right?

00:36:24.020 --> 00:36:25.840
 You've got to wait, and there's a harvest season.

00:36:26.980 --> 00:36:35.000
 And Jesus looks at the disciples, and he says, look, I know in four months, like he's helping them.

00:36:35.080 --> 00:36:36.760
 These disciples, they're like me.

00:36:36.860 --> 00:36:37.640
 They're a little hard-headed.

00:36:38.300 --> 00:36:47.880
 I know that in four months is when the harvest comes, but look up now, because the harvest is ready.

00:36:49.120 --> 00:36:50.640
 What harvest is ready?

00:36:51.600 --> 00:36:52.320
 The people.

00:36:53.500 --> 00:36:54.180
 The people.

00:36:55.420 --> 00:37:01.420
 Scripture tells us that they're coming to Jesus, right?

00:37:02.060 --> 00:37:06.860
 The beauty of this, the beauty of what we're experiencing.

00:37:07.860 --> 00:37:13.880
 She says, it's more than grain and fruits and vegetables.

00:37:15.380 --> 00:37:21.940
 It's more than the hunger, pain, or the thirst that I feel in my stomach right now.

00:37:22.740 --> 00:37:27.200
 Because he who has sent me has sent me for a greater work.

00:37:28.500 --> 00:37:31.620
 And it's not about the things of this earth.

00:37:32.780 --> 00:37:33.900
 It's about them.

00:37:35.120 --> 00:37:35.780
 And they came.

00:37:37.480 --> 00:37:39.160
 What brought the people to Jesus?

00:37:41.820 --> 00:37:43.060
 It wasn't a mission trip.

00:37:44.520 --> 00:37:45.880
 The missionaries were out getting food.

00:37:48.700 --> 00:37:50.160
 It wasn't a worship service.

00:37:51.700 --> 00:37:53.020
 They didn't have them then, right?

00:37:54.900 --> 00:37:56.080
 It wasn't a sermon.

00:37:58.400 --> 00:37:59.420
 It was a testimony.

00:38:00.920 --> 00:38:01.740
 It was a testimony.

00:38:03.060 --> 00:38:04.240
 We have verse 39.

00:38:06.940 --> 00:38:13.720
 Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony.

00:38:15.720 --> 00:38:20.080
 She confirmed who she was before Christ and who he is.

00:38:21.620 --> 00:38:24.680
 And he told me all that I ever did.

00:38:26.220 --> 00:38:30.540
 And so when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them.

00:38:31.680 --> 00:38:33.240
 And he stayed there two days.

00:38:34.400 --> 00:38:40.140
 And the beauty, verse 41, of the power of the brokenness of God's people.

00:38:40.840 --> 00:38:45.340
 When they carried the gospel into the world and sharing what Christ has done.

00:38:45.340 --> 00:38:49.800
 And many more believed because of his word.

00:38:51.340 --> 00:38:56.380
 And they said to her, it's no longer because of what you said that we believed.

00:38:57.780 --> 00:39:01.780
 You see, it wasn't just about hearing a cool story and responding to it.

00:39:03.040 --> 00:39:11.180
 It was about the work of the spirit of God and what he sent the people, what he sent Jesus to do.

00:39:11.960 --> 00:39:18.980
 For we have heard for ourselves and we know that this is indeed the savior of the world.

00:39:20.100 --> 00:39:21.720
 And that's the hope that we have.

00:39:22.840 --> 00:39:33.460
 But as you and I have experienced the new water, the gospel of Jesus Christ, the living water that comes from us.

00:39:34.160 --> 00:39:38.180
 That we interact with him and that we worship him in a new way.

00:39:39.120 --> 00:39:41.960
 It's no longer based out of some religious obligation.

00:39:42.140 --> 00:39:46.480
 It's no longer based out of the man-made customs and traditions that are there.

00:39:46.600 --> 00:39:51.040
 But we worship him in a new way, in a new worship, in spirit and truth.

00:39:52.460 --> 00:39:56.420
 Because of what is welling up inside of us and what is drawing us to him.

00:39:56.600 --> 00:39:59.660
 And it's not about knowing a person more.

00:39:59.900 --> 00:40:01.860
 It's not about a different experience.

00:40:01.860 --> 00:40:06.880
 It's not about being entertained, but it's about worshiping him in spirit and in truth.

00:40:07.000 --> 00:40:13.560
 Because of who he is and our response to him and this supernatural act that is happening and taking place.

00:40:15.300 --> 00:40:17.960
 Which pushes us toward and points us toward.

00:40:18.060 --> 00:40:20.420
 And we're going to look at this a lot next week.

00:40:21.760 --> 00:40:22.840
 Into a new way.

00:40:23.780 --> 00:40:25.020
 Into a new ministry.

00:40:25.980 --> 00:40:29.920
 A ministry of reconciliation of what God has for us.

00:40:31.340 --> 00:40:32.600
 Because here's the truth.

00:40:34.440 --> 00:40:38.280
 In this story, there's one Samaritan woman.

00:40:39.800 --> 00:40:42.000
 One Samaritan woman who was broken.

00:40:43.080 --> 00:40:44.400
 Who was unclean.

00:40:45.840 --> 00:40:49.340
 Who was not fit to sit beside the Savior.

00:40:50.440 --> 00:40:53.240
 Who was not capable of saving herself.

00:40:54.180 --> 00:40:55.660
 Who had a past.

00:40:56.660 --> 00:40:58.500
 Who made poor decisions.

00:41:00.160 --> 00:41:02.260
 There's one of those in this story.

00:41:03.480 --> 00:41:08.100
 But the truth is, you and I are her.

00:41:09.140 --> 00:41:10.640
 We're broken with a past.

00:41:10.720 --> 00:41:11.520
 We're undeserving.

00:41:12.200 --> 00:41:17.400
 But Jesus came so that we may have life and have it to the fullest.

00:41:18.400 --> 00:41:19.360
 Would you pray with me?

00:41:19.360 --> 00:41:27.820
 Lord, I thank you for this time and this opportunity that we have to worship you.

00:41:29.440 --> 00:41:32.920
 Lord, as we move into a time of taking in the Lord's Supper.

00:41:34.800 --> 00:41:40.300
 Of acknowledging that you came not to just have moments like this.

00:41:41.740 --> 00:41:43.680
 At a well in Samaria.

00:41:45.360 --> 00:41:47.240
 But you came to live.

00:41:48.100 --> 00:41:49.100
 To die.

00:41:50.100 --> 00:41:51.400
 To be resurrected.

00:41:52.400 --> 00:41:53.460
 And to ascend.

00:41:54.520 --> 00:41:57.740
 So, Lord, that we may have life in you.

00:41:58.340 --> 00:41:59.460
 And to its fullest.

00:42:00.760 --> 00:42:02.120
 And it's in Jesus' name we pray.

00:42:02.960 --> 00:42:03.320
 Amen.

00:42:04.840 --> 00:42:08.240
 So if you have your elements, I want to get you to go ahead and open and take out the bread.

00:42:15.760 --> 00:42:18.440
 The bread that represents the very body of Christ.

00:42:20.280 --> 00:42:21.620
 Why was Jesus punished?

00:42:23.060 --> 00:42:25.420
 Why did his body endure what he endured?

00:42:26.620 --> 00:42:27.900
 Because he took our place.

00:42:29.860 --> 00:42:33.100
 And because of our sin, he was crucified.

00:42:34.740 --> 00:42:39.480
 He took a crucifixion that you deserved and you deserved and you deserved and I deserve.

00:42:40.880 --> 00:42:44.180
 And he took it in our place to pay for our sins.

00:42:45.260 --> 00:42:52.120
 And so because of that, Scripture tells us that Jesus on the night he was betrayed took bread.

00:42:53.060 --> 00:42:57.540
 And when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, this is my body, which is for you.

00:42:58.260 --> 00:42:59.880
 Do this in remembrance of me.

00:43:10.520 --> 00:43:12.660
 And in the same way, Scripture says, he took the cup.

00:43:14.100 --> 00:43:17.760
 The cup that would represent the blood of Christ.

00:43:18.800 --> 00:43:20.500
 The payment for our sins.

00:43:22.600 --> 00:43:28.400
 That we may be made new and what we may inherit is eternal life.

00:43:28.400 --> 00:43:33.940
 That we're covered by the blood of the Lamb, which makes us clean.

00:43:34.740 --> 00:43:38.700
 In spite of all that we're done in spite of all that we do.

00:43:39.700 --> 00:43:43.520
 And so Jesus says, this cup is the new covenant in my blood.

00:43:44.240 --> 00:43:47.240
 Do this as often as you drink it in remembrance of me.

00:43:51.580 --> 00:43:52.560
 Would you pray with me?

00:43:58.560 --> 00:44:00.540
 Lord, we thank you for the grace of this morning.

00:44:02.100 --> 00:44:04.800
 We thank you for life, for hope.

00:44:07.440 --> 00:44:11.160
 Lord, we thank you in the beauty of this story of what happened and what took place.

00:44:13.060 --> 00:44:18.920
 Lord, we thank you that in your journey on this earth to fulfill the will of the Father.

00:44:20.580 --> 00:44:29.380
 You took the time to sit in the middle of the heat of the day and talk to a woman at the well.

00:44:31.360 --> 00:44:34.420
 Lord, we thank you for the new water that you give.

00:44:34.740 --> 00:44:38.400
 The new water that you bring that is found in you and in you alone.

00:44:40.320 --> 00:44:42.740
 Lord, we thank you that we can't obtain it ourselves.

00:44:44.420 --> 00:44:45.760
 We thank you that it's different.

00:44:45.900 --> 00:44:47.240
 We thank you that it satisfies.

00:44:47.820 --> 00:44:49.000
 That it produces.

00:44:49.420 --> 00:44:50.100
 And that it gives.

00:44:50.580 --> 00:44:51.540
 Eternal life.

00:44:52.660 --> 00:44:53.980
 In the hope of the gospel.

00:44:55.480 --> 00:44:57.040
 Lord, we thank you for the new worship.

00:44:58.080 --> 00:45:00.160
 It's not found in us, but it's found in you.

00:45:01.560 --> 00:45:03.560
 And Lord, you are our object of worship.

00:45:03.700 --> 00:45:05.020
 You are the subject of worship.

00:45:05.180 --> 00:45:07.020
 You are the means of worship.

00:45:07.460 --> 00:45:09.380
 You're the focus of worship.

00:45:09.540 --> 00:45:12.200
 And Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:12.440 --> 00:45:13.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:13.900 --> 00:45:13.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:13.900 --> 00:45:13.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:13.900 --> 00:45:13.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:13.900 --> 00:45:13.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:13.900 --> 00:45:14.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:14.900 --> 00:45:15.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:15.900 --> 00:45:16.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:16.900 --> 00:45:17.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:17.900 --> 00:45:18.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:18.900 --> 00:45:19.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:19.900 --> 00:45:20.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:20.900 --> 00:45:21.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:21.900 --> 00:45:22.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:22.900 --> 00:45:23.900
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:23.900 --> 00:45:25.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:25.680 --> 00:45:26.360
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:26.360 --> 00:45:26.420
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:26.420 --> 00:45:27.580
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:27.580 --> 00:45:28.580
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:28.580 --> 00:45:29.580
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:29.580 --> 00:45:29.700
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:29.700 --> 00:45:30.620
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:30.620 --> 00:45:31.620
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:31.620 --> 00:45:33.620
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:33.620 --> 00:45:34.620
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:34.620 --> 00:45:35.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:35.680 --> 00:45:36.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:36.680 --> 00:45:37.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:37.680 --> 00:45:38.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:38.680 --> 00:45:39.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:39.680 --> 00:45:41.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:41.680 --> 00:45:41.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:41.680 --> 00:45:43.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:43.680 --> 00:45:43.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:43.680 --> 00:45:44.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:44.680 --> 00:45:45.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:45.680 --> 00:45:46.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:46.680 --> 00:45:47.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:47.680 --> 00:45:48.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:48.680 --> 00:45:49.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:49.680 --> 00:45:50.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:50.680 --> 00:45:51.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:51.680 --> 00:45:52.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:52.680 --> 00:45:53.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:53.680 --> 00:45:54.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:54.680 --> 00:45:55.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:55.680 --> 00:45:56.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:56.680 --> 00:45:57.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:57.680 --> 00:45:58.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:58.680 --> 00:45:59.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:45:59.680 --> 00:46:00.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:00.680 --> 00:46:01.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:01.680 --> 00:46:01.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:01.680 --> 00:46:02.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:02.680 --> 00:46:03.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:03.680 --> 00:46:04.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:04.680 --> 00:46:05.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:05.680 --> 00:46:06.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:06.680 --> 00:46:07.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:07.680 --> 00:46:08.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:08.680 --> 00:46:09.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:09.680 --> 00:46:10.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:10.680 --> 00:46:11.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:11.680 --> 00:46:12.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:12.680 --> 00:46:13.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:13.680 --> 00:46:13.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:13.680 --> 00:46:14.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:14.680 --> 00:46:15.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:15.680 --> 00:46:16.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:16.680 --> 00:46:17.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:17.680 --> 00:46:18.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:18.680 --> 00:46:19.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:19.680 --> 00:46:20.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:20.680 --> 00:46:21.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:21.680 --> 00:46:22.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:22.680 --> 00:46:23.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:23.680 --> 00:46:24.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:24.680 --> 00:46:25.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:25.680 --> 00:46:27.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:27.680 --> 00:46:28.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:28.680 --> 00:46:29.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:29.680 --> 00:46:30.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:30.680 --> 00:46:31.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:31.680 --> 00:46:32.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:32.680 --> 00:46:33.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:33.680 --> 00:46:34.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:34.680 --> 00:46:35.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:35.680 --> 00:46:36.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:36.680 --> 00:46:37.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:37.680 --> 00:46:38.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:38.680 --> 00:46:39.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:39.680 --> 00:46:52.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:52.680 --> 00:46:53.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:53.680 --> 00:46:54.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:55.680 --> 00:46:57.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:57.680 --> 00:46:58.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:58.680 --> 00:46:59.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:46:59.680 --> 00:47:00.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:47:00.680 --> 00:47:01.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:47:01.680 --> 00:47:02.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:47:02.680 --> 00:47:03.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:47:03.680 --> 00:47:04.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:47:04.680 --> 00:47:05.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:47:05.680 --> 00:47:06.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:47:06.680 --> 00:47:07.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.

00:47:07.680 --> 00:47:08.680
 Lord, may we worship you in spirit and truth.
