the chad bozarth show

In this episode, I talk with Dr. Cor Bennema, Head of Research and Professor of New Testament Studies at London School of Theology. We discuss his journey from studying the Holy Spirit in John’s writings, to years teaching in India and Wales, and now back at the school where it all began.

We dive into his book Encountering Jesus: Character Studies in the Gospel of John and explore how John uses real encounters with Jesus — Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman, the man born blind, Thomas, and others — to evoke faith and challenge readers.

We cover reading the Bible well (context first, then application), story level vs. narrative level in John, identifying with characters without forcing ourselves into the text, the Holy Spirit as our guide, John’s place in the big meta-narrative of Scripture, and how Jesus personally walks with people in their ambiguity.

A must-listen for seminary students, pastors, Bible study leaders, or anyone wanting to go deeper in the Gospel of John.
