Meet the Gender Empowerment Centre's 2025-2026 staff, learn about our resources, events, our latest book club meeting, our field trip to the CFUV, and our theories about current GEM mysteries.

The Gender Empowerment Centre (GEM), an advocacy group at the University of Victoria Student Society, advocates for self-identified women, trans, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming folks, and our mission is to be a strong feminist voice on campus. Anyone who aligns with our values of intersectional feminism, bodily autonomy, sex positivity and collective liberation is welcome in our community. The GEM resides on stolen, unsurrendered territories of the Lekwungen (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm) peoples, and we recognize the ways in which colonization has impacted and continues to impact our concepts of gender and sexuality, most notably through the colonial creation of the gender binary and the fostering of systems of oppression.

The Gender Empowerment Centre is an inclusive space, focused on the needs of self-identified women, non-binary, trans and gender non-conforming folks to organize, network, access resources, attend workshops and events, study, and relax. Our space is open to both University of Victoria students and community members.
