Drunk as a Poet on Payday

It is an incredible delight to be back with today’s guest, Kathy Fagan, to talk about her new book, The Unbecoming. It was my privilege to have Kathy as a teacher at Ohio State when I was earning my MFA, and also to work with her as a part of the literary magazine The Journal.

Kathy Fagan is the author of six previous collections of poetry, including, Bad Hobby, which won the 2023 William Carlos Williams Award. And Sycamore, was a finalist for the 2018 Kingsley Tufts Award. She was a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow, and also been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, an Ingram Merrill fellowship, residencies at The Frost Place, Yaddo, and MacDowell, and was named Ohio Poet of the Year for 2017. She co-founded the MFA Program at The Ohio State University, where she taught poetry and co-edited The Journal and the Wheeler Poetry Prize Book Series for OSU Press.

What is Drunk as a Poet on Payday?

Good news is sometimes hard to come by for poets, and what’s better news than a new book! Celebrate with us as Jason Gray hosts an interview podcast with poets discussing their new books. Each episode is a smart, fun look into the world of poetry, where the guests read several poems for their new work, and talk about how their books came to be, and how they write the way they do.
