Derrick Porter, CEO of Beauty Industry Group (BIG), has spent the last 15 years
building BIG into a global portfolio of beauty brands with offices in 5 countries on three
continents. As the company has grown Derrick has partnered with two leading private
equity firms, Gauge Capital and Huntsman Gay Global Capital, together acquiring eight
companies and resulting in its products now being sold in more than 165 countries.
Derrick was recently recognized by Ernst & Young as 2020 Entrepreneur of the Year in
the Utah Region and was honored by Goldman Sachs as one of the top 100 most
intriguing entrepreneurs at its 2020 Builders + Innovators Summit. Derrick also sits on
the board of the World Trade Center, Utah, and in that capacity serves as Chair of the
Global Business Services Committee.
Prior to his time at BIG, Derrick built and operated Porter Brown Distribution, a third-
party logistics company with facilities in Texas, Colorado, and Utah. Porter is also a
principle in a multi-family real estate development office with properties along the
Wasatch Front. He graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Technical Sales from Weber
State University and earned his MBA from The Ohio State University.
Whether on skis or a bike, Derrick enjoys spending his free time high in the mountains.
The highlight of Derrick’s week is time spent with his wife and six children and working
with his sons on their entrepreneurial pursuits.
