चरति चरतो भगः

कश्चित् श्रान्तः पथिकः अग्रे गन्तुम् अनिच्छन् वृक्षस्य अधः उपविष्टं वृद्धं 'ग्रामः कियत् दूरे अस्ति?’ इति अपृच्छत् । किन्तु सः वृद्धः किमपि न उक्तवान् । कुपितः पथिकः मनसा एव वृद्धं निन्दन् यदा अग्रे गन्तुम् उद्युक्तः तदा वृद्धः उच्चस्वरेण तम् आहूय अवदत् 'ग्रामः क्रोशमितदूरे अस्ति' इति । उत्तरं दत्त्वा अपि भवान् अग्रे न चलति चेत्, मम उत्तरं व्यर्थं स्यात् । अतः पूर्वम् उत्तरं न दत्तवान् । यदा भवान् अग्रे गन्तुं निर्णयम् अकरोत् तदा उत्तरं दत्तवान् । यः चलति सः एव गन्तव्यं स्थानं प्राप्नोति । अतः एव उच्यते 'चरति चरतो भगः' इति । यत्नशीलस्य जनस्य भाग्यं फलति इति तात्पर्यम् ।

A weary traveler sat under a tree and asked an old man, "How far is the village?" The old man remained silent. Annoyed, the traveler mentally criticized him and prepared to move forward. At that moment, the old man called out, "The village is a mile away". He explained, "If you do not move forward, my answer is meaningless. I waited until you decided to walk before responding. Only those who move forward reach their destination". Thus, it is said, "Fortune favors those who strive". The meaning is that effort leads to success.

सम्भाषणसन्देशः इति संस्कृतमासिकपत्रिका (https://sambhashanasandesha.in) । एतस्यां पत्रिकायां प्रकाशिताः लेखाः, कथाः, बालकथाः, वार्ताः इत्यादिकं सर्वम् अपि सरलसंस्कृतेन एव प्रकाश्यते । तत्रत्याः “बालमोदिनी”नामिकाः बालकथाः अत्र प्रसार्यन्ते । अतः अस्याः शृङ्खलायाः नाम अपि “बालमोदिनी” एव । लघु गात्रं, सरला भाषा च कथानां विशेषः । प्रत्येकं कथा काञ्चित् नीतिं बोधयति । बालकथाः आबालवृद्धं सर्वेषां प्रियाः । संस्कृतेन ताः श्रोतुम् उपलब्धाः भवन्तु इति एषः प्रयत्नः श्रोतृभ्यः अवश्यं रोचेत इति विश्वासः । संस्कृतक्षेत्रे संस्कृतेन पॉड्कास्ट् क्रियमाणाः एताः प्रप्रथमाः कथाः इति सगौरवम् उद्घोष्यते ।
