The Clash Act GAA Podcast

The footballing legend spoke at depth about his career touching upon New York, Kildare, Cork & Manchester United!

Show Notes

Cork's two time All Ireland winner & three time All Star Larry Tompkins was the latest guest to sit down with Eddie Scally on The Clash Act.

Six years with his native Kildare left him empty-handed and heartbroken. He emigrated to New York to find a job and find a team he could lead to championship glory. In the United States, Tompkins’ belief in himself never dimmed. He led Donegal to four New York championships in the Big Apple. He also found a new home for himself in Ireland and led Castlehaven to two Cork and Munster titles. In between, he also became the most valuable and feared footballer in Ireland.

We barely got to scratch the surface on Larry's great career and could of chatted for hours, but he did manage to get in some great stories which include
  •
  • Covid times for a pub owner
  • Fracturing his skull at 16 & getting back playing
  • New York in the 80's
  • Problems with Kildare GAA
  • Moving to Cork & winning Munster title with Castlehaven
  • His time training with Manchester United meeting Bryan Robson, Paul McGrath & Mark Hughes
  • His book "Believe" and why he wanted to tell his story
