सङ्गीतं देशरक्षणाय अपि !!

भारतीयेतिहासस्य मध्यकाले चित्रदुर्गनामके संस्थाने सैनिककुटुम्बे जयसिंहः नाम कश्चन युवकः खड्गादिभिः योद्धुं नेष्यते स्म । गाने वाद्यसङ्गीते च तस्य महती आसक्तिः । 'देशस्य रक्षणं न केवलं शस्त्रेण एव, अपि तु सङ्गीतेनापि शक्यम्' इति वदति स्म । कदाचित् सः ब्रिटिश्सैनिकैः निगृहीतः । उच्चाधिकारी 'अद्य रात्रौ दुर्गस्य मुख्यद्वारस्य पुरतः‌ गातव्यम्' इति अवदत् । सः दुर्गसैन्यस्य जागरणाय गीतम् आरभत । जागरितं दुर्गसैन्यं ब्रिटिशसेनायाः उपरि शरवर्षम् अकरोत् । अनन्यगतिकता ब्रिटिश्सेना प्रत्यगच्छत् । जनाः जयसिंहं बहुधा अस्तुवन् ।

In medieval India, in Chitradurga, a young man named Jayasimha, born into a soldier's family, loved music over weapons. He believed music could protect the nation as much as weapons could. Captured by British soldiers, he was asked to sing at the fort's main gate. Using his song to alert the fort's soldiers, they launched a fierce attack on the British, forcing them to retreat. Jayasimha was widely praised and celebrated by the people.
