--> 00:06:22.960 Now, everything yesterday was in good fun and we got to laugh about it. 00:06:23.020 --> 00:06:27.540 But when we look at Scripture, it's got to be very clear and very evident to you. It's a characteristic and a trait that we see throughout Scripture. 00:06:39.340 --> 00:06:41.760 And so what I want to do, I want to read very quickly. 00:06:41.880 --> 00:06:43.640 These aren't even going to be on the screen. 00:06:43.640 --> 00:06:51.600 There's, I think, nine verses from Scripture that show God's heart for the humble, that show 00:06:51.600 --> 00:06:53.460 God's heart for comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. 00:07:35.860 --> 00:07:37.580 Proverbs 15, 33. 00:07:37.580 --> 00:07:44.760 The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility 00:07:53.920 In 1 Peter 5, 6. 00:07:54.240 --> 00:08:01.800 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you. 00:08:02.320 --> 00:08:09.780 So what we find in Scripture, and this is just a small sampling of when humility is used and 00:08:09.780 --> 00:08:15.360 described by God as an attribute that should be possessed by his people. 00:08:15.360 --> 00:08:23.300 Just in this sampling, we see that humility is connected to salvation, to guidance from God, 00:08:23.440 --> 00:08:28.180 to grace from God, to wisdom, to honor, and to greatness. 00:08:29.120 --> 00:08:34.560 So humility should be something that you and I can not only see in our life, 00:08:34.660 --> 00:08:37.880 but it is something that we are pursuing. 00:08:37.880 --> 00:08:41.600 Now, as we look through this, we started with it last week. 00:08:41.620 --> 00:08:48.660 As we look through this early birth narrative of Jesus Christ found in Scripture all the way back 00:08:48.660 --> 00:08:53.580 to Mary finding out that she'll be the mother of the Lord, to the song that she sings, 00:08:53.760 --> 00:08:59.260 we see that humility fills the pages of this narrative. 00:08:59.480 --> 00:09:01.240 And here's why I think this is so important. 00:09:01.240 --> 00:09:06.360 Go all the way back to our first week and remember that the setting in which, or I'm sorry, 00:09:06.440 --> 00:09:08.760 the audience into which Luke is writing. 00:09:09.840 --> 00:09:15.200 The Gospel of Luke and the Gospel Acts, both written by Luke, written to Theophilus. 00:09:15.580 --> 00:09:22.700 And he tells Theophilus that he is writing them so that he may know Jesus, that he's heard. 00:09:22.900 --> 00:09:28.660 Like Theophilus, this isn't his first introduction to Jesus, but that he's heard about Jesus, 00:09:28.920 --> 00:09:35.240 but that his friend Luke is writing these things to him in order to confirm in him accurate belief. 00:09:35.240 --> 00:09:39.520 And so as Luke is telling this narrative to someone that he deeply loves, 00:09:39.900 --> 00:09:45.740 woven into this under God's inspiration is this concept of humility. 00:09:46.120 --> 00:09:48.060 All right, so what is humility? 00:09:48.540 --> 00:09:54.680 Because humility has got to be different than you and I seeking to knock each other down a peg, 00:09:54.840 --> 00:09:56.200 to picking at each other. 00:09:56.340 --> 00:10:02.020 And I'll say this, that spiritually speaking, concerning Scripture in the heart of God is this, 00:10:02.280 --> 00:10:08.380 that the heart of humility is seeing yourself accurately. 00:10:09.340 --> 00:10:12.280 Like, humility is not thinking less of yourself, okay? 00:10:12.540 --> 00:10:15.020 Humility is not beating yourself up. 00:10:15.300 --> 00:10:18.580 Humility is not this punishment that you and I have to take on. 00:10:18.900 --> 00:10:22.300 Humility is not a sign of weakness, all right? 00:10:22.520 --> 00:10:23.680 Jesus is humble. 00:10:24.520 --> 00:10:27.520 Jesus has lived his life, embraced humility. 00:10:28.140 --> 00:10:32.340 But humility is seeing yourself accurately, right? 00:10:32.340 --> 00:10:36.160 And that's kind of hard for us to do sometimes. 00:10:36.600 --> 00:10:39.960 And as we read through this morning, the first part of chapter 2, 00:10:40.140 -->
