What’s the Weather Like? (Sapling) Hello and welcome to “What’s the Weather Like?” – a fun way to learn about weather in English! Today we’ll listen to some sounds, guess the weather, and talk about what we can do in different types of weather. Are you ready? Before we begin, let’s talk about some weather words. Do you know some weather words - rain, snow, sun, wind and cloud. Did you know that you can take these words and add the letter ‘Y’ to talk about different kinds of weather? So … you can see snow in your garden, but it is a snowy day. When there are many clouds in the sky, it’s a cloudy day. There are many way to ask about the weather. You can ask, “How is the weather?” or “It is hot or cold or sunny?”, but the best way is to ask is “What’s the weather like?” Okay. It’s game time. Let’s listen to the first sound.
Hmm... What’s the weather like?
What’s that sound? Oh, it’s rain! Do you remember how to change the word ‘rain’ to talk about the day? Yes! It’s rainy. Very good! When it’s rainy, what can we do? We can stay inside and play hide and seek. We can watch a movie.
When you go outside, what do you need so your hair doesn’t get wet? An umbrella, right? Excellent!
Now, let’s listen to number 2.
What do you think? It’s not rainy.
It’s windy! Well done! Now, what do children like to do on a very windy day? (insert sound wind and sea birds like at the beach) Children like to fly a kite! It’s a great windy day activity.

Let’s try another. That doesn’t sound like weather. That sound is children playing outside. Oh … but what kind of day is the perfect day to play outside?
Yes, of course – a sunny day. But what can children do outside when it’s sunny? Ride a bike
, play basketball and play in the swimming pool.

Let’s do one more.
Ooh, this one is cold! Imagine that it is winter, and you can’t go to school. What’s the weather like?
It’s snowy! Did you say snowy? In countries with cold winters, sometimes kids can’t go to school when it is very snowy. But what can the children do outside? Go sledding and have a snowball fight.
But don’t forget your hat and gloves!
Let’s review! When it’s rainy, we need an umbrella.
When it’s windy, we can fly a kite.
When it’s sunny, we can ride a bike.
When it’s snowy, we can go sledding. Great work today! Now, look outside.
